- My very last song with my Great Grandmother Wanda White Mathews. She sang regularly on the Tennessee Barn Dance and the Midday Merrygoround... she taught me to sing harmony when I was 4. I will forever miss you Grandma. I have waited a while to post this. Some will say why. It’s sad. It’s humiliating. But it’s her. Her entire life was a song. She lived for a stage. Any stage. She was the most refined and self respectful woman I ever knew. She was graceful and full of kindness. She was funny and quick. Hard working and even more so loving. This video would be her testimony. She would adore all the fuss and fawning. I put it on Facebook and it flew. But I got lost of questions on why.... why is because she loved to sing. She was my person. Her lil cabin was my home away from home. I’ve not stepped foot there since she left. I guess I never will. One of my most favorite videos is recorded on that red couch of hers. I’ll miss it. And her. I hope you see the beauty in it. I hope you share it. She was excited about my American idol experience. She never got to see how it turned out.... she passed while I was performing. She thought I was a star like her friend June Carter my hero... what she didn’t know was she, my Great grandma was the star... she just shined for us in the end... and more so even now!
P.S. she is singing with Johnny and June now, honey. And has claimed that wonderful new body... can you just imagine how joyful heaven sounds right now??? And Emi, she knows ALL about your journey. Who do you think is guiding you? Always look UP! ♥️♥️🙏♥️♥️ Sending you love and prayers of comfort.
I have been a follower and extreme admirer of Emi for several years. The moment I opened this and listened I knew and felt why she was there. After watching again and reading comments I’m crying, and thanking you for allowing us to watch. Sending so many prayers through this time of loss and hoping you have some comfort knowing there was a better place for her to be.
I only saw and heard beauty and joy.

I see a grand lady with the gift of music being Loved and celebrated by her family in the presence of that gift magnified and passed to a beautiful great granddaughter. Return to the cabin, Emi. She will always be there.

I laid next to my Mom just before she passed and sang Amazing Grace to her. She wasn’t responding to us but she responded to that song. She tried to talk when I finished and I asked her if she wanted me to sing it again and she nodded her head “Yes”. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful and personal moment with us. Every moment with our loved ones is precious.
God had called you there at that time and your Great Grandmother was blessed by you, your singing with her and the love you shared. God has promised we will see our loved ones again in Heaven. May God continue to bless you and your family and loved ones. ... Paul

When my Mom passed away it was really hard to go back into the house, but you have to consider the family member(s) that still live in the home. You will want to go back often to make the house feel like a home again. Can you just imagine how my Dad would have felt if all of us kids would not come over to visit him and do things to make his life more tolerable during those times. If you can't step inside still, do a Day with EmiSunshine and take them for a drive, or maybe grab some food, even if it's through a drive-thru and have a picnic. Maybe take them to the grocery store or take them fishing, etc. They want to get out of the house sometimes too. Let the home give you and your loved ones comfort. Call on the folks that still live there often, keep them and yourself busy, cherish the memories and make new ones with the loved ones you still have with you.

Oh, Emi...I am so sad for you. I am a great grandmother myself, helping to raise my own little star. After your Grandma passed, I saw a video of her talking about you and showing the bed she shared with you when you were little. And telling about how you woke her up one night to listen to you sing...and she knew. It made me cry because my own g-granddaughter sleeps with me...and I know what that meant to your Grandma...to share that closeness and to see herself in you, knowing you as well as she knew herself. Most great-grandmothers never have that relationship with a great grandchild. It's knowing you will not just be a name on the family tree to that child but rather a million sweet memories of feeling warm and safe and loved. My great granddaughter suddenly set up in bed last night and said, "Mommaw, you wouldn't last a day without me." And it's true. And your grandma's words told my heart that it was the same for the two of you.
When Idol aired, I kept thinking she must be on your mind and you must be thinking that she never got to see you perform on it. And I imagined that you probably were keeping that inside with your Grandma wrapped in your heart the whole time.
You were blessed to have her in your life in such an intricate way...and she was blessed to have you in hers in the same way, Emi. God knew what he was doing there. I love you, Emi. May God comfort your sweet heart.
