Join wood expert Will Kirk at The Repair Shop for a restoration of Roald Dahl’s historic cottage gate, featuring new, never-before-seen footage. The cottage, now owned by Hanna Smart, was once the home of Roald Dahl’s mother and served as his residence after he returned from World War II. This gate, mentioned in Dahl’s autobiography when he recalls his return from the war, has suffered decades of neglect, with all its joints rotting away. Will faces the challenge of preserving as much of the original structure as possible while restoring this cherished piece of history.

I discovered The Repair Shop just few months ago, and it's become my favorite TV show. I haven't had a TV in over five years now, but I do watch the episodes in UA-cam. Absolutely in love with this program. ♥ P.S. All the restorers are amazing, each one in their own craft.

Phenominal B-roll. Hat's off to the production crew. They never get enough credit.

Tbh I wouldn't be bored if this extended film had been even longer. It's so lovely to see the crafts and skills properly on show without the constraints of the regular show

Lovely that will is a talented woodworker while also being sensitive to an authentic restoration rather than a complete rebuild with all new wood. He definitely kept the charm the gate had while making it sturdy enough to use.

What a beautiful job Will did on that lovely old gate. Now that's something to walk by, walk through and gaze at for many years of enjoyment. Roald Dahl was the first author who's books I fell in love with. I hope I can visit this cottage someday and see it all in person. Thanks for sharing!

Will, absolutely awesome mate, I love watching you work, some of the things you achieve is just brilliant when you look at the state of them when given to you to repair.
    Your an absolute master.
Why do I like what you do ??
Because I love working with wood too, beautiful material to work with.
    Cheers mate Les.
