I agree with Naro a Nation's culture is important and should be kept because it form apart of their identity. People can't continue to change their culture to suit other countries culture or else the nation will be lost and headed down a dark path where they may never have the mechanism to regain consciousness. Whoever don't want accept the culture go and live in the country with the culture you prefer simple
This "anti-everything-"non-Jamaican"" is why dancehall is on a downward spiral. Jamaican produced Reggae is pretty much dead, Dancehall is soon to follow. Get up with the times and embrace change. Let Naro continue, he won't have any topics to discuss soon.
@@James-sz2hr qatar is a good example of sticking to what u believe in.. not because everything is acceptable means that you have to accept it... places like America were founded by pagans so their ideals will always reflect a paganism lifestyle, people across the world fell in love with Jamaica and its culture so why should we now change to suit another country?
Disagree with Ari for sure this time sorry.
This has been happening to Jamaica. Just take a look at Dancehall it's essentially just American trap music now
@@James-sz2hr stfu..danehall doing better now than ever..look how much youth a rich an a eat from music..yuh think music did apull money like d youth them now or even a reach d extent? stop compare to other cultures and look where we coming from instead of straying and doing immoral things because everyone else is doing it
Culture represents a group of customs that people practice regularly. Sometimes culture is localized. For example, the maroons practice certain traditions that the rest of the country still needs to learn. But they never tried to force those customs on the rest of us. Over time other things are added. For example, people of age in the sixties will tell you that dancehall was a physical space, and there was nobody selling drum pan chicken and soup outside that space. Homosexuality is not publicly accepted in Jamaica, but it has been around us forever.
Facts. People are mistaking a social taboo for culture. It is not the same thing.
@@ShangoHeruGinen1791, Absolutely. And they use it to bring people down. Clearly, people like Foota Hype are trying their darndest to kick Koffee out of the music business.
If this was Koffee's first song would she have garnered the support of the Jamaican youth or the Jamaican crowd? Nope. Koffee played the Jamaican crowd and dropped her facade. Jamaica is an inclusive country, Ari. Accepting certain lifestyles has nothing to do with inclusion.
Factsssss
When she get the Grammy for the first album, it was a wrap
Culture is “Out of many, one people”.. that is it. Stand for something or fall for everything. If people don’t agree with their culture representation that’s the people stance. People have to respect people’s culture just like people want their culture and lifestyle to be respected,
Will have to agree with Naro on this one. And furthermore we need to stop acting as if Jamaica is a violent homophobic country, we are very tolerant of them despite our homophobic songs. Most gay on gay crime out here are within the homosexual community, it's not like we are going out of our way to attack gays.
That's a narrative that 'they' will never push. They want the world to believe that there's a gay purge going on on Jamaica when that is so far from the truth.
Exactly! Sam Smith had one the biggest song playing in every dance in Jamaica. And ppl knew he was gay then !! They are ok with him as long as he stays in his own path.
Jus dnt try to force or infiltrate our nation.
@@Djkid404 as long as them naa do wah him a do now..dem hav a agenda
Sometimes culture is rooted in a lot of trauma. Some traditions/culture need updating. Jamaica has a heavily violent culture. Dat nuh mean wi fi keep it dat way. Dont get fooled by the word.
Everything that's done in past is why Jamaica is famous, don't fuck with the culture!!
Koffee was never preaching Rastafari from day 1. People only associate her with rastafari because of who she aligned with and her type of music.
Koffee was all about peace and love and gratitude is a must. It’s not fair to limit her to a Rasta box. Jamaica is only 3 million people. There’s a massive world out there bigger than Jamaica. Open your minds.
Facts
Respect that! I LOVE Jamaica, Lord knows I do but I think there are some aspects of the culture that is so incredibly hypocritical. The same Bible that speaks against homosexuality also speaks against fornication and judging the sins of others, however we tend to pick and choose who we want to blaze with fire and leave the ones we approve of alone. There are some cultures who believe in punishing a woman for having been raped, perhaps sometimes its the culture that needs to grow as humanity evolves. (Just sayin).
Ari is saying she agree to say why she disagree😂😂ICONIC! She is a “modernist” so I know exactly what she’s going to say but Naro surprised me with his moral stance.

Them soon start eat frog and boil hotdog & wear cowboy boots , stop clean dem house and smoke crack and take coke and call it culture
Jamaican people blind though, she has ALWAYS showed her true self. You need to watch the “Lockdown” video more closely!
I've said this numerous times, if people couldn't tell Shebada was gay, they'll never see Koffee as gay. the lyrics for that song ALONE should have told everyone she was gay, talking about "hey fancy" like a man would like being talked to like you'd talk to a woman.
Wow, the comment section is super dark. Shine some light. It’s people calling Ari bi because she isn’t condoning hate towards the gay community. Mind you Ari didn’t take any stance, she was just stating facts and coming from a logical thinking stance instead of emotions. To Naro our culture should evolve if it’s speaking towards violence against a specific group. While not disrespecting the culture and pushing any agenda in peoples face. It’s still wrong to make violence against a specific group as ‘culture’. Naro sounds very ignorant but it wouldn’t be the first.

There's so many Gay persons living in Jamaica some out and some still in, how is it she who is following her dreams which so many regular folks do not do, is failing the culture and selling out..what happened to the those that are so anti gay, wearing the designers that are gay, isn't that appropriation? If a wealthy gay investor or gay successful producer came to Jamaica right now offering jobs and music contracts I guarantee it would not be turned down. The mindset that Jamaica has is the reason why afrobeats is surpassing and becoming the main genre of music and even coming back to Jamaica which many paid top dollars to see them perform.. I am sure Burna boy doesn't give a damn about lgbt topics and has locks and is widely accepted world wide. We are limiting ourselves for a topic that is present in our culture with or without Koffee.. let us choose our battles wisely.. if we were more disciplined I would understand.. but we are too wishy washy to have such a stand point on the topic.

Big up Naro, Ari cultures do change but when that change is to go against and oppose the same aspect of nature which gave them the very life they possess then we must take a stance to protect that culture. All of us have mother and father and to go against that is the greatest dishonor to your parents and also the greatest dishonor to your own life itself because the practices are anti life and anti nature

I agree with Naro, we must keep our culture, it's what separates us from the rest of the world. I wouldn't want certain type of lifestyles to infiltrate ours.
It’s the things that are creatively different that makes something specific to a culture. There is nothing culturally special or creative about homophobia. There’s homophobia in every country on earth. Reggae and dancehall are specific to Jamaica and that’s what separates Jamaica culturally from the rest of the world. The world owes thanks to Jamaica for dancehall.
Jamaicans didn’t create homophobia! I’d be happy for you to tell me who and what men influenced homophobic writings. Where they come from and what they look like.
@@Joidhdss Well check this, in my book, it have nothing to do with no phobia or no kind of bia, in my book life is about right or wrong and as for me that lifestyle is wrong. No one does not have to agree with how me and quite a few see things, we who stand with God stand with righteousness as how we see it. If they can shout out how proud they are for what they believe in, I know I can stand and shout for what I know. There's no hatred, but I won't be silent as to what I stand for.
@@SolidRocEntertainmentSRE that’s fine, because you’re speaking from your book. Not the book of Jamaica. I disagree but many people disagree on beliefs in Jamaica. There are many schools of Rastafarianism, Christianity etc and what is right for one, is wrong for another. From church to church, house to house, brother to sister everybody is has different opinions.
I think it’s impossible to neatly tie a “lifestyle” to an essential national culture, disregarding the prevalence of alternative “lifestyles” even when one seems dominant. That's like saying smoking weed is or isn’t essentially Jamaican culture when it is one of many “lifestyle” choices.
An art form can be claimed by all as culture but the content of that art form is always broad. As i said Jamaicans can agree on reggae being Jamaican culture but not all Jamaicans can agree that such a “lifestyle” is right or wrong. so by all non-violent and un-oppressive means stand by your opinion.
Anyway, I’m digressing and you made a point of saying ‘No one has to agree with me…’
All I’m trying to say is when you say the phrase “our culture” it seems strange when Koffee is Jamaican, so part of the “our”. The lifestyle you want to protect from infiltration is not at risk. It can co-exist with other lifestyles as is already the case. Your idea of “infiltration” is the phobia I’m referring to.

Ari's question is should every culture be respected! It's a valid question. The Middle East has many cultures that people are trying to eradicate because for the most part those cultures are anti women. Should those cultures be respected? Or, should humanity fight to eradicate them! Another valid point is it was culture to shun Rasta. Should we have respected that part of our culture? Ignorance shouldn't always take precedence in every discussion.
Some cultures practice immorality, nothing about Rastafarianism is immoral most of them literally read the Bible and follow the rules of the Bible the only thing is that the think Selassie was the Messiah .
It was still culture to discriminate and mistreat Rasta because again they were different and deviant from the status quo. It's the same thing now happening but to other people. Now Rasta is popular, and everybody chest high and think they can judge who more righteous than who. Just like how not all laws are moral, not all things within culture are right.

Koffee always presented as a tomboy/ masculine girl. To say she is pushing an agenda rather than consider she's just being herself sounds biased. She has a wide fan base, to think you are the only ones she speaks to would be a mistake. Also consider how she identifies may also affect what and who she is speaking to within her music as with all artists. That said, I think people forget how young she was when she started her music career and she still is very young but we are now seeing her come into her own and become more comfortable within her own skin. That it is where authenticity comes from. I'm sure Koffee is aware of what ppl think about her and if this is who she is, I'm curious as to what ppl expect her to do? Hide? Pretend to please strangers who don't know her? The same ppl who scream agenda are the same ones who want to force other ppl to live according to what they believe and see fit and dictate their visibility. Live your life and allow others to live theirs. These same ppl who are hyper focused on her sexuality which she has YET to talk about, want to know more about her but in the same breath want her to essentially be quieter and dim her light and not stand out so much as someone who is different from what we are used to. There's just too much hypocrisy, bigotry, and ignorance around this conversation and it's so unserious.
Thank you

Why we so scared to bun koffee?
Because she is a woman... Acceptance of Lesbians has always been easier than acceptance of gays. Then the lesbians start advocating for the gays and people start to realize they can't accept one without the other. At this point the door is already open and it's too late to close it. Women are the pioneers for inclusiveness.

Ari trying to blur the line between culture and tradition and there is a big difference.
I'm so tired of the reverse discrimination. Live your life but don't force it down other people's throat. Why should Rasta culture conform to the what is PERCEIVED as normalcy and when they don't they are labeled as not being modernized, or they are of regressive thought. We don't always have to agree, but just as much as certain groups want respect, they should respect those who oppose their lifestyle. I'm also tired of the scapegoat that if someone does not agree with that lifestyle, they are violent individuals. There is certainly an agenda to normalize things or create the perception that it's widely accepted and that is far from the truth, not just in Jamaica but world wide. 100% with Naro on this one.

The good name of both Reggae AND Dancehall was in trouble as soon as K0ffee --
_who, by the way, is a JAMAICAN POP (JAMPOP) ARTIST and NOT a REGGAE OR DANCEHALL ARTIST_ --
was given the 2020 Grammy for the Best Reggae Album. That was the open door for the f!nal phase of
the opposition's attack on Jamaica's music and their overall cultural stance. This "Gimme" video was just
the confirmation and official announcement of K0ffee's true colors.
Two key things to consider seriously NEVER forget --
1) An attack on Jamaican music and culture is, first and foremost, objectively an attack on BL/\C|< PE0PLE overall.
2) The words "evolve" and "evolution" are derogatory codespeak terms to describe the coercive suggestion that a
culture should (or must) compromise its original traditions and norms for the sake of appeasing the oppressor class.
_(In other words, the New Age definition of "evolve" means to sell out the integrity of self or one's culture to please society.)_
These terms are most commonly used in connection with "the agenda" AND against Black people, especially in
connection with Black music known for its conscious influences -- Hip-Hop, Reggae and Dancehall.
Notice how you NEVER hear ANY semblance of conscious lyrical content in mainstream Rap and Dancehall?

1) Black people can be gay too. How do you think gay black people feel when you tell them that homosexuality is an attack on black people?
2) Homophobic sentiment and antigay laws in Jamaica stem from the British colonial era... from the oppressor class
3) The only attack on Jamaican music right now is American trap, talentless illiterate monosyllabic wasteman artists like Skillibeng and violence and chopper lyrics.

Americans have been associating homosexuality with the Black community even to the point where we became synonymous to the LGBT community as it relates to rights and laws. Now playing dancehall music or having a dancehall setting in a gay club may seems simple to some ppl but why if the genre isn't dancehall/ reggae and as a Jamaican entity despite her sexuality would she be ok with this. This paints a picture and as Ari said "if the persons are limited", but 3/4 of the world is limited.
It's literally a club filled with Rastafarian and Black people wearing green, red, black and gold.
This is the reason why Afro Beat and Reggaeton Beating Dancehall and Reggae so bad internationally, the small minded Jamaica way are no other way is over and done with, Rihanna alone richer than our industry because she runs a business while we over here do gossiping period
Koffee is showing us rather than saying.
You all are so anti-gay and anti-change then wonder why Dancehall/Reggae is stagnant and regressing. Just last week you all were complaining about Afro-Beat taking over. This is the reason why!
exactly Naro and the funniest thing is that all those person defending Koffee being apart of that production would be the same person licking out if a open gay male jamaican dancehall artist , should be dress like sam smith doing reggae/ dancehall.Koffee career would still be great even if she didn’t do that song.
About rasta that wasn't culture check u facts mama
So what was it?
I don’t think this is a culture argument. People like Shebada are part of dancehall culture. The ownership of the art is what’s missing. If Koffee made a song professing her love for a woman she would identify her fan base and be considered authentic. Just like Shenseea they don’t want to take the risk of losing followers so they are tip toeing around. But they are willing to jump for a collab with regular foreign artist not even as popular as them. That’s the sell out part.
Correction..shebada is NOT apart of dancehall culture.
