VN24 - Semitrailer with empty beer bottles tilts on its side - recovery turns into water games

VN24 - 16-08-2023 (D/M/Y) - Dortmund B54 / Germany - On Wednesday evening at about 18:25, a 37-year-old Romanian truck driver threw his Semitrailer on its side after driving onto the B54 federal highway in the southbound direction in the Dortmund city area. According to his statements to the police, the brakes failed exactly at the moment when he was coming from the traffic circle of Maurice-Vast-Straße, entered the rather narrow right-hand bend of the on-ramp to the two-lane Ruhrallee (B54) and as a result fell onto the left side of the vehicle. Fortunately, the driver was only slightly injured, other road users were not harmed. The recovery and cleanup of the truck, which was loaded with thousands of empty beer bottles, became a real game of water at times during the night due to the onset of heavy rain and had to be partially interrupted. The complete recovery and subsequent cleaning of the roadway took until the morning of the following day. Since the uprighting of the lying truck succeeded with two tow trucks in the first attempt, an ordered crane was no longer used. Due to the driver's statement that the brakes had failed, the entire Semitrailer was seized by the police for further technical investigation.
