    Thank you for the info. It's helpful to know what I should look for as someone who is a newer wheelchair user. I appreciate it when others who are more experienced make videos on this subject.

    I've found medium height ergonomic backs like jay makes work super well to prevent back subluxations for me.
    If you need the back support, Jay makes really good ones!

    I have a Panthera U2 as well :) I can highly recommend getting the new type of casters on it, with a different spacer you can have the U3 casters on a U2 chair and it is like night and day difference! The new caster wheels are so much better!

    It’s so interesting how you find a low back rest helpful! If I had one like that, I’d be in agony. The differences between what we need as individuals is interesting.
    Oh, and the SmartDrive is awesome! I love mine!

    Informative and very easy to watch, great! (And that's from someone who doesn't use manual wheelchairs)

    You get what you're given where I am in England, UK. Those electric wheel assist things aren't provided. They don't even provide powerchairs if you only use a chair outdoors lol

    Thanks so much for making this video, it was super helpful!! I'm just looking into my first wheelchair for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and am really hoping NDIS will help cover it, but what was the grant that you mentioned? I live in Adelaide :)

    Thanks for this! I really wish I could afford the smart drive. My backup chair is a manual and it's basicaly unusable because I can't push it very long without injuring myself and I live alone, lol

      Do you have insurance that would cover it?

    • @cbowd
      @cbowd 7 років тому

      Nope. My insurance will only cover power assist on one's main chair, womp womp. I'm primarily a power chair user.

    kind of off topic but I figured I'd ask someone who also has cerebral palsy. I don't know if you use afo or not but do you have any sneaker type recommendation. all the ones that I have that I can't get over my brace easily look like granny shoes and I hate it

      Robyn Lambird cool sorry for the question but I just started exploring the online communities because I'm from a small town in Minnesota. so people have pretty archaic beliefs. if that makes any sense

    thanks so much for this video! I've been doing some research on manual wheelchairs and trying to find a local mobility disability devices store where I could try one out, but I still hadn't been totally sure of what to look for, but this video helped a lot! I'd been wondering what type of wheelchair you have since I really like it :) I do have a couple questions: Does not having armrests on your chair ever bug or do you have ways to hold / have your arms some kinds of ways that are plenty comfortable? And I don't know whether you could answer this since it must change with the individual, but I have CP also (spastc diplegia) and chronic nerve pain, and my legs fall asleep really easily, so in terms of the angle of the dump (is that the angle of the chair seat in relation to the back? I hadn't heard of it before), I do want to help my posture, but I also worry about my legs still conching out when I'm in a chair, especially since that makes it easier for my legs to give out when I stand up because they'll do that seemingly randomly as well. I am trying to find a local shop to go talk with someone and try out different wheelchairs, but in the meantime, I figured you'd be good to ask :)

      jordan bayley if you're in the US the Abilities Expo stops near you it's a great place to try out many different chairs!

      Katherine Beattie hi, yep I am in the US and the Abilities Expo was in this area not too long ago but I couldn't make it there :( so now I'm just trying to find stores that sell wheelchairs around here.

      jordan bayley Hey, if I'm not pushing I'm usually at a table or something where I can rest my arms if not they kind off just sit on top of the wheels which is plenty comfortable. As for legs fallling asleep it's all about getting the foot plate hight right, an OT should be able to help you with that.
