I loved everything about nettle and bone except the main character. I couldn’t get over how she was 30 and kept not believing that anything bad could happen. It felt like the author wrote a teenager and then had a typo when she said she was 30. But then I read Swordheart by T. Kingfisher and LOVED it. I definitely want to read more by her.
This was really helpful. I've heard you talk about most of these books in previous videos, but seeing the books next to each other gives a better feel for how they worked for you. It also helps the viewer know your tastes so they can compare how your thoughts might resonate with theirs. I've already bought several books from your reviews and now I'm off to buy another.
Nettle and bone and A Far Wilder Magic are top tier for me. They’re very different stories but I feel like the settings gave me very similar vibes. I also loved half a soul. It was so delightful! I haven’t read Babel yet but it’s on my shelf. It seems like a bit of a heavier read and I have seasonal affective disorder this time of year so I’m saving it for later 🤍 Thanks for the video! Hope you are having a good holiday season.
Nettle and Bone and The Secret Society of Irregular Witches would top my list as well! I also adored She Who Fell Beneath the Sea. There was something dreamlike about it!
So excited to see that all the boks from this list that are on my TBR are A or S tier for you! The fact that I have followed your new fantasy wrap ups maybe has something to do... 😅
Great video! I was actually looking for some fantasy standalones to finish the year! Also, was it just me or was this video a biiiiit ASMR-ish? (Which is great xD)
I have to ask. Did you ever get around to reading, "The Spear Cuts Through Water" from Simon Jimenez? I saw that it was one of your anticipated releases. I'm reading it now, and I feel like I am reading a work of art or something. It is written in such an interesting way.
I just finished Monsters We Defy and I really enjoyed it, especially because it had a strong feeling of place and community. The Bone Orchard was certainly interesting, even if I found it underwhelming in the end. I will follow the author's work, I hope we get more outlandish ideas in a tighter plot, with better worldbuilding. I DNFed The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea, not the target audience.
I totally get when you say your heart belongs to Iceland, was there 2 weeks ago and I know my heart belongs there too. Bonedog, what's not to love about him/her/it for me it's the best character in Nettle & Bone (next to the chicken) Although I haven't read most on this list, it's always nice to find some recommendations.
@@amywalker8447 Fly-Over Iceland was a beautiful experience. Snaefellsness is beautiful. Waterfalls, cliffs. Thingvellir was, well everything nature in Iceland, beautiful. You could do the Golden Circle or Diamond Circle. If you're long enough in Iceland you maybe could do both. And if you're in Reykjavik there's a beautiful bookstore. If you want I have a Iceland video on my channel, so some of the nature + the bookstore. But there's a lot to see/do in Reykjavik. Hopefully this helps and have fun while in Iceland Amy.
@@walkingwithbooks3486 Thank you so much for your response! We love to find good bookstores wherever we travel! We will be in the city for a bit, hoping to do some shopping and museum hopping and then hoping to do the golden circle. I will look for your video! ❤️
🤔 think haven watched this video...till now. Yes on Gallant [ or maybe it is even D for me] and Half a Soul we gree upon! Is The Bridge Kingdom here as well?...

I'm currently read the girl who fell beneath the sea and I'm loving it so far. Mina is such a good main character

Yes, dreamlike is the perfect way to describe it!

Hahahaha, I hope you end up enjoying them!
Nettle and Bone is my favorite book of the year. I have several of the ones you mentioned on my way too long TBR
I love Schwab, and I know she can write great characters. But, Gallant was all vibes to me
Great video! I was actually looking for some fantasy standalones to finish the year!

Reading Half a Soul right now and having a lovely time!
I’m on holiday right now and fantasy standalones are my favourite holiday reads.
So nervous yet excited to pick up babel next year… hoping for the best!
I enjoyed Gallant and other books of Ms VE Schwab..
This is exactly what I needed. THANKS ✨
I loved half a soul and nettle and bone. I picked up a few of T. Kingfisher books. I really like the author.
I really liked both Nettle and Bone and Elektra. I want to read Dowry of Blood and a couple of the others 😊
Great video!
Okay...now I have to put Nettle & Bone on my wishlist for books to buy 😊
thank you 🙂

Oh that's disappointing to hear about All the Horses of Iceland, it sounded so good.
You might still like it! It definitely felt like reading a text from a different time

Where did you get that copy of legends and lattes?

Bonedog! So cute 😄 Two weeks was how long I was there for as well. It was amazing :D
I’m going for a week in June. What were your favorite places?

The year isn't over yet. But my favorite stand alone so far has been Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater.
I was just waiting for half a soul to come into the favs lol

For Elektra, I feel like she wasn’t the main character. Why name the book Elektra if she’s the worst part of the book?…
Okay, I'll say it: yes, yes you need a 6th tier!
