Hi Euge. Awesome review of the OX! Both the OX and the Suhr sound really good. 100% agree OX should make it easier to load third-party IR. This might help -- in the Mic 1/Mic 2 dropdown menu underneath Condenser 414 you should see DIRECT. Then in the daw you can load the IR loader/Libra. That's how I record direct to add my own / third-party IR in the mixing stage. Hope this helps, Rock on!
The uad ox is made with superb IR so I found nothing is missing ;-) it really is quite simple to use I find. And the effects are Top notch ;-) thanks for the review. Cheers

I got a great deal on the Ox and only track with it. It’s crazy how few cabs and speakers they have. It should have been updated many times but they just abandoned support for some reason. They should have bass cabs and more mics as well. I do love the sound of what’s there but being a 4x12 EV 12L guy I’ve got nothing like that in there.
Awesome that you did this video! Was definitely interested in your opinion after asking you in your Mig50 video. My fear was buying an attenuator that’s made the amp sound bad. Sadly it seems the St. Rock is hard to find in the US. Seems like a great product. Your results on the Ox is really surprising for the price. This is my reminder to finally subscribe. Cheers. Edit: Oh man just realized the St.Rock products are made in Ukraine…
Another great video of you - the ox box can't load ir's because they don't use ir's - uad calls it physical modelling - or dynamic speaker modelling - anyway. I think it sounds good - but it always sounds to you
As usual, awesome video. The OX does not work with IR technology by design. I guess UAD wanted to have a patented technology just for themselves which is why they developed their own. Choosing the DIRECT from the microphone list allows you to get direct sound to the DAW
I really want that St Rock but it's sold out atm. I do like the my Suhr though but are you loading the IR via the loader or the DAW? The DAW shouldn't truncate the low end.
Thank you for these reviews they really help people looking to buy equipment. If ever possible would like to see a comparison with IR’s vs Grossmann SG box which many people say is the best isolation box. I have a Rivera Silent Sister but prefer the OX Box to it. Thanks again

I've tried to find a while ago a St. Rock to buy but they are for a long time not available or at least the time that I wanted to buy a loadbox and I chose the fractal LB-2, which I like a lot and found the best of the most know loadboxes.. but I'm still very curious to try the St. Rock.. I would rather buy a st. rock than a Suhr :)
Euge I am split between Captor X, Suhr IR, St Rock or OX. I want a realistic Greenback 4x12 or Marshall 1960a G12T-75,65 sound? What would you recommend? The only thing that stops me from St Rock is I live in Poland EU and I have no idea how to deal with imports and how much tax I have to pay and how to pay it:( ALSO: Will the St rock handle 100w JCM800 or Plexi style amps?
All of those are really good and mostly it’s about the IR. I mean a Greenback 4x12 mic’d with, let’s say, an SM57 can sound horrible if not done / captured right. I like the St. Rock the most ’cos of the versatility and the absolutely fantastic cab attenuator it has. Those are the amps I use the most and works like a charm. It even worked with a 100watt Plexi everything maxed, and that puts out about 180watts then 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V Yeah I think with the Suhr vs St Rock there is no competition, the Suhr sounds a little bit brighter (load is based on Greenback 4x12), so not really that great for the V30 sound. The st rock seems to be based on v30 with a possibility to change the resonance to match different cabs, but from the demos, I listened it can have digital aliasing in the sound when you use multiple IRs. Also for me I want an attenuator and a headphone play capability so Suhr is already a no-go. Captor x is great for using it instead of a speaker for practice or playing without the computer or Fx unit. It has delay, reverb, and nice stereo but it will not handle JCM800/Plexi the way I like to use them from time to time. I would have to buy a Harley Beton 250-watt attenuator for this:) Right now for me, it is St Rock vs The OX. The OX has high-quality effects for playing away from the computer and without an FX Unit, it has an attenuator and uses 3 accurately responding mic and speaker sims with very little digital aliasing but the attenuator is not good and the load on its own without the software sounds resistive (It is the worst out of the loads in my opinion). The St Rock lacks the effects for daily playing or practices away from the computer, but the load is good, you can match the resonance for any cab, and have multiple IRs so you can match 57, plus Royer plus Room mike but there will be aliasing. Also for the Price of a used OX you can buy ST Rock for the Desk and Captor X or a good multi-FX unit for the ST Rock for playing/practice.
@@EugeValovirta230V Also regarding the OX, I suspect it is not actually a reactive box based on the way the attenuator works. Also, the dynamics of the notes as well as high end of the sound in all tests feels more like a Harley Benton Attenuator with no speaker plugged in rather than a reactive load box. It still sounds better though (As they use better components). I think they might be using a similar technology that they use with their interfaces with impedance switching. If they did it this way, instead of standard reactive load imitating a speaker then they rely on the software to make it sound good because there is no speaker/power amp interaction. There is no teardown of the OX on the internet. And also they do not support using the standard IRs. WHY? Is it because with standard IRs it comes out to sound like a Resistive load? If my theory is true then their software is very impressive, but then it also means they charge a huge amount of money for a cheap loadbox, which is not reactive like other loadboxes. They just put it into a nice shell.
Hey Euge! Thanks for the review! I also own and use some of your equipment. I think you always have a good approach. You either get along with a device within an hour or you don't use it anymore ;-). My 4x12 cabs (ENGL Pro V30, ENGL Standard V60 or Marshall Greenback) sound exactly the same as without the OX Attenuator. How did you connect the Ox?
Ok, I installed everything via the KHE. everything, like the cabs, the amps and the effect pedals and the ox too. Really strange if it sounds so muffled to you, especially at low volume. I can send you a video of my setup.
