"I've driven in London, what else is there..." Oh there is plenty, wait till you get down into the heart of Cornwall and the little roads there hehehe...
If you go to London again there are companies that do a trip. It takes you on the London eye. Then a river cruise on the Thames finishing with lunch at a hotel. Sunday's are best.
LOL I can see both sides as 40 years ago I was going around the old Hyde Park (Devils Corner) @ Marble Arch and the Old Trafalgar Square on driving lessons and Hyde Park roundabouts were all "every man for himself then so scary). As someone who first drove for 2 years in Inner London until I moved almost 40 years ago To The Suburbs,I felt that if I could drive amidst the chaos there I could drive anywhere but, as you know, other areas like Cornwall have their own special challenges:

I've been a Trucker for 35 years and have probably over 2 million miles under my right foot. You did alright in Landan. No one with a sane mind likes driving there !!

Good job, I think I could never do it, I mean driving in England. Even though I'm a European and I learned to drive with manual transmission and in a busy city, and my first three cars were manual. You're the good kind of tourists, too.
I'm sure you could. Every year thousands of Brits go to Europe, either in their own cars or hiring one on arrival, and we rarely have problems driving on the right. After the first few hours most people soon adjust to it.
I'm from UK I recommend the shard instead of London eye. Book before sunset and see London for hours night and day from what ever angle you want.also tallest building in Weston Europe.
When you visit devon and Cornwall, recommend you check out the scenery of North Devon, especially Lynton and Lynmouth, also look out for the Valley of the rocks
Hi guys. Loving your enthusiasm for our country, thank you. If, and as and when you get to Cornwall, treat yourselves and try and get to Berryfields Farm on the north coast near Padstowe and Trevose Golf Club. The strawberry cream teas are sublime. Trust me you will love them. Have fun, Curly xx
Fantastic video. Make sure you pop into a 'Greggs' while you are over here because the sausage rolls and cakes are lovely and DEFINITELY part of British Life LOL. Have a fantastic time and drive safe . Cornwall is Gorgeous but narrow roads. Regards Nick
Travelling in your company is a real pleasure. Congratulations on your driving...London can be a bit of a "frightener" for many, not least for anyonme used to driving on the opposite side of the road! I recall my own initial trepidation when visiting US family in Louisiana some decades ago - setting out in the big rented Chevrolet for the Gulf, reminding myself repeatedly about who had "right of way". Stay safe and have fun on your travels.
Well done, I'm a Brit and wouldn't drive in London! You did really well considering it's your first time driving here on the opposite side of the road in a strange car with a manual gearbox that you're not used to. 👏
An American musician friend of mine has no problem driving in the UK but can't cope with a RHD car. The tours always start and finish in France and the car hired there.
Awww great vlog. Well done on the driving!! Im still trying to convince my hubby to drive in Florida in September 🤣 must be quite daunting on the wrong side of the road. Looking forward to following your adventures over here! Cornwall is so beautiful. Hope you get the weather x
Its ok to call the monument/building Big Ben. When you look at a clock, you're not, as the clock is the mechanism. You look at the clock face! When you look at either of the four faces of the Elizabeth tower, you are looking at the face/s of Big Ben. Way i look at it & people will always call it Big Ben lol. 🇬🇧
You did a great job! I’m a Londoner since birth. I’ve driven in many countries, the US multiple times, but driving in central london is my least favourite driving experience (except possibly Boston during ‘the big dig’). Massive respect 🤟🏻
If you find the British pint too bitter or strong you can ask for a “top” as in “a bitter top please” gives you about a a quarter of the pint replaced with lemonade, or a “Shandy” which is traditionally half bitter and half lemonade. You can do the same with any pint of normal bear, lager etc.
Well done! Never driven in central London myself so to see you having your first UK driving experience there is really impressive! Hope you had a great trip, your enthusiasm is so infectious!
To dry clothes in that washer/dryer you need to put it on setting 11 and then choose either iron dry, hanger dry,or the wardrobe dry setting...or instead you can choose the 40,60 etc minute drying cycle. I know because i have the same washer dryer.
I have been driving up and down from Liverpool to London for 50 years as we have family a sister who moved there and a brother in Essex. I always found getting into London a lot easier than driving out! You have done impressively well! X
I was smiling all the way through your video. You two have the likeability factor, so I was rooting for you when you started to drive through London, which isn't easy for Brits either. Well done. Have a great time in Cornwall, my ansums.
Some older historical cities, such as Oxford, York, Bath etc have park & ride schemes, so unless unless you have a hotel with a car park, it's often best to use those. Parking can be bad in those cities, and Oxford even seems to go out of its way to be awkward. Oh, random tip. If you do drive to Oxford, take a quick detour to "The Headington Shark" on New High Street on the east side of the city. It's a normal residential street, other than one house, where a giant shark is crashing through the roof.
If you are going Liverpool you gotta go to Manchester to. 2 big music towns. Not far from them is Wigan, the land of pies, home of the now internet famous, "Wigan Kebab"
Just spotted, in your clip, that you came across Runnymede. This is my home territory, if you had glanced to your left you would have seen the Kennedy memorial and other attractions on the meadow below the hill, (Cooper's Hill) that's where I live, at the top of that hill. Lots of history, like the last duel in England was fought out there, the Magna Carta was signed there in 1215, Marilyn and Arthur Miller stayed here whilst filming in 1956. Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher spent their honeymoon here, and En,gland's tallest giant lived in the village. Enjoy Royal Windsor and the rest of your road trip.
Oh neat. We knew that Salisbury Cathedral has one of the documents, but didn't realize we drove by where it was actually signed. Thank you for the info!
Love seeing your travels, your both great to watch. On your way to Cornwall also see if you can visit Dartmoor in Devon - it’s beautiful. Safe travels 🙂.
I've been driving for 47 years now, and in the distant past I've driven in and through London and it wasn't the most pleasant of experiences way back then. It's a total nightmare nowadays. For you to drive in London, on the opposite side of the road to what you're used to, in a car with a manual gearbox and presumably with only a vague idea of which way you were going takes some massive "cojones". I salute you.
You get a gold star for making a journey through central London as your first time on the road in the UK and in a manual car after 10 years in an automatic.
I thankfully didn't drive in London. I started my drive leaving Edinburgh and then in Ireland. Next long trip to England, I will definitely be driving. The parking is the most difficult, especially at hotels.
Hope the road trip goes well. Don't worry about roundabouts - you'll be fine, but just remember when you approach one, if there's someone already on it and (obviously) coming from the right - to give way or let them pass by before going onto the roundabout. Other than on the motorways (freeways/expressways), once you're out of London, the roads are less congested. You'll love the openness of the Scottish Highlands if you're heading up there!
Top marks for driving through London as a first UK drive; a lot of Brits like myself hate the experience. And don't miss out on a drive through the Lake District..... Wonderful scenery! Enjoy!
There are no slow lanes on any of our roads, for example: Motorway speed is 70mph in any lane unless there are restrictions. Outer lanes are simply for overtaking slower traffic and not a reason to break that speed limit.
Finally you're driving on the correct side of the road. About 20 years I went to Donegal (I'm from N Ireland) and at the hotel I was staying at I met a couple of Ladies from the USA. They drove their rental car out of Dublin airport and straight onto the wrong side of the road. They hit a bus and the car was written off. The car hire company sort of saw the funny side (nobody was hurt) and just gave them another car.
Such a nice couple with good sense. Now my home town is Reading about 10 miles from Windsor. Windsor is in the county of Royal Berkshire. Also roundabouts make sense in most places. Better than being stuck at traffic lights. Remember the Guards are trained members of the British Army. Don't get in their way.
A303, stonehenge amazing road for the 1st 10 miles off M3 junction. If you go north defo visit Mt Snowdon in wales some amazing scenic roads there too!
The best advice I was given for driving on the “wrong side” is - the driver should always be beside the centre line. Don’t try and “transfer” as you turn corners or enter a round about, just make sure you’re beside the centre line. This helps when return home & think omg I’m driving on the right !
The London Eye is expensive but isn't everything these days !! I went on the LE for part of my 50th , 7 years ago now, yikes !! it is a great experience as you can see all across London . Watching lots of your videos now, what a lovely couple, welcome to the UK, glad you like it guys ! You are the kind of people we want here, nuff said !
Something worth doing in London, is a river trip down to the O2, walk over it, then pop to the Emirates skyline. Back up river on the boat or use the tube to get back. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
Thanks for that! My once long-lost (like 50 years lost) and now found cousin who lives in Georgia has been over here four times since 2016 with friends and/or her husband. The first time I ever rode in the same car as her was as scary for me as it was for her driving, an experience I understand from riding a motorbike in France. My cousin is here at the mo a few days ahead of you but this time she and her friend are travelling by train. Enjoy your road trip - this is a very varied island with people from all over the world including other tourists. I've stood on a bridge over a small river in Scotland chatting with a couple who had motorbiked from southern Italy and a Chinese couple on a package tour - having a three way conversation me having to translate their English between them at times which was kind of fun, interesting and geeky.
Next time you're in London, one thing to check would be "The London Duck Tours". These are like the London bus tours, but with a difference... The tour is in a restored WW2 amphibious vehicle (called a DUKW, nicknamed Duck). Part of the tour takes place driving around the various sites of central London, THEN the vehicle proceeds into the Thames River and the rest of the tour takes place going past Tower Bridge, Westminster, etc while on the river. There used to be a similar thing in Liverpool called "The Yellow Duckmarine", but that company went bust.
You are one of the nicest american couples I've seen on youtube and it's just great you enjoyed this little country of ours and it's diversity of food and people.👍
"Mind The Gap" is a warning given out on the trains meaning when you step off the train be careful of the gap between the train and the platform. Its become a marketable phrase now though like the "Keep Calm and Carry On" stuff, which was a poster that barely got used during WW2, and got found many years later and turned into a franchise of merchandise.
the little cupboard symbol on your washer dryer is for allowing the clothes to be dried fully so you can just put them away, this only works on some of the programmed settings, also the temperature gauge is set really low on your machine so it wont get hot enough anyhow, its hard to tell but it looks like you have the machine on programme 3 or 2 that should have worked if the temp was set higher
when travelling abroad - just hire a local car and make sure that the driver is in the middle of the road and the passenger kerbside. That makes road positioning easy
You did great. When we go over to France, Belgium and Holland, we have to adjust like you did. Once you take the bull by the horns, it does get easier. We have the same reluctance and nerves at first.
I started watching your channel only a few months back. Both of you are so genuine and lovely and I get so much from just watching your perspective on things.. Now I'm getting your view of London where I was born and grew up and seeing it through your eyes is as you guys would say "awesome" If you visit Windsor Castle I do recommend paying the extra to view the dolls house as it's something I've never forgot.

Thank you! It isn't so bad outside of London.
I'm from UK I recommend the shard instead of London eye. Book before sunset and see London for hours night and day from what ever angle you want.also tallest building in Weston Europe.
Just remember to give way to vehicles approaching from the right at a roundabout and you'll be fine.
Thank you!
When you visit devon and Cornwall, recommend you check out the scenery of North Devon, especially Lynton and Lynmouth, also look out for the Valley of the rocks
Thanks for the recommendation!
Thank you for the suggestion! We already went to Cornwall, but we will definitely be back, so next time!
@@TheMagicGeekdom i was waiting for the Cornwall video ;)
Fantastic video. Make sure you pop into a 'Greggs' while you are over here because the sausage rolls and cakes are lovely and DEFINITELY part of British Life LOL. Have a fantastic time and drive safe . Cornwall is Gorgeous but narrow roads.
Regards
Nick
Thanks for the tip! We will have a video about Greggs later.
Thats pretty impressive, driving in London can be daunting for a lot of brits outside the city
I wouldn’t attempt it
The most daunting part is paying the congestion charge.
Travelling in your company is a real pleasure. Congratulations on your driving...London can be a bit of a
"frightener" for many, not least for anyonme used to driving on the opposite side of the road! I recall my
own initial trepidation when visiting US family in Louisiana some decades ago - setting out in the big
rented Chevrolet for the Gulf, reminding myself repeatedly about who had "right of way". Stay safe and
have fun on your travels.
Lol yes that sounds familiar. Thank you!
Well done, I'm a Brit and wouldn't drive in London! You did really well considering it's your first time driving here on the opposite side of the road in a strange car with a manual gearbox that you're not used to. 👏
Thanks! 😃
An American musician friend of mine has no problem driving in the UK but can't cope with a RHD car. The tours always start and finish in France and the car hired there.
The pubs around Richmond are awesome,I used to drink by the river in my younger days.
You are very brave driving in central London. I am British and have only driven in London once and would always avoid! :)
I can understand why you'd want to avoid it. 😃
I'm a Brit and I can say you're braver than me - I wouldn't want to drive around London.
Awww great vlog. Well done on the driving!! Im still trying to convince my hubby to drive in Florida in September 🤣 must be quite daunting on the wrong side of the road.
Looking forward to following your adventures over here! Cornwall is so beautiful. Hope you get the weather x
I've just passed my artic driving test. I might have to drive on the Continent. I have to say I am terrified.
Thank you!
I have lived in England all of my life and even I wouldn’t like to drive Around London so congratulations to you for that.. you did really well..
Thank you!
Well done on your first time driving in London!
Thank you!
I live 20 mins from Richmond..my other half used to work in the slug and Lettuce on the river..
Also Tom Hardy lives in Richmond
I’m from the UK near London and everyone calls it ‘Big Ben’. I didn’t even know it was called ‘Elizabeth Tower’ 😂 x
Big Ben is the name of the bell inside the tower
I think most people know it as Big Ben.
@@martinryder6910 Yes we know! Lol
@@TheMagicGeekdom They do & will continue to 👍🇬🇧❤🇺🇸
You did a great job! I’m a Londoner since birth. I’ve driven in many countries, the US multiple times, but driving in central london is my least favourite driving experience (except possibly Boston during ‘the big dig’). Massive respect 🤟🏻
It will forever be known as Big Ben no matter the official name
Lol that seems fair.
Thanks! 😃 Our trip was so great. Hope you enjoy the videos!
To dry clothes in that washer/dryer you need to put it on setting 11 and then choose either iron dry, hanger dry,or the wardrobe dry setting...or instead you can choose the 40,60 etc minute drying cycle.
I know because i have the same washer dryer.
It's actually a legal requirement to wear a seat belt...
I don't think anyone was questioning that. 🤔
you two are actually the happiest couple i’ve ever seen
As a Brit I wouldn't drive in London. It's full of aggressive, inconsiderate drivers. Get on the outside of the M25 and meet real people.
Will do. Thanks!
I’m very proud of you for driving in London, I was a nervous wreck when I drove there from Liverpool. Good job.
Thank you!
Go to Cambridge, it's an amazing city, beautiful architecture and only 50 mins on the train from London.
You get a gold star for making a journey through central London as your first time on the road in the UK and in a manual car after 10 years in an automatic.
Excellent - really impressed with the driving in London! AND your pronunciation of Southwark. Looking forward to the rest of your trip.
I thankfully didn't drive in London. I started my drive leaving Edinburgh and then in Ireland. Next long trip to England, I will definitely be driving. The parking is the most difficult, especially at hotels.
I just got my passport and planning a London trip, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the info!
Top marks for driving through London as a first UK drive; a lot of Brits like myself hate the experience.
And don't miss out on a drive through the Lake District..... Wonderful scenery!
Enjoy!
Thank you!
Next trip in the U.K. you should hit the Lake District lots of amazing food options, challenging driving roads and beautiful views
There are no slow lanes on any of our roads, for example: Motorway speed is 70mph in any lane unless there are restrictions. Outer lanes are simply for overtaking slower traffic and not a reason to break that speed limit.
That makes sense.
Whoa, I laughed when I read it, but that is kind of scary. Good thing no one was hurt.
Thank you!
If you want beer with more "fizz" you want lager. A pint of Carling is the typical go to lager
Thanks!
You are s much more knowledgeable than many Americans ( and even some British). V impressive.
Thank you!
I did the London Eye last time I visited, imo you are not missing out if you don't do it, I'm sure there are better things to do.
Thanks for the tips!
You're very brave I'm English and I wouldn't like to drive in London
You are one of the nicest american couples I've seen on youtube and it's just great you enjoyed this little country of ours and it's diversity of food and people.👍
Wow, thank you!
Lovely vlog! Richmond is one of the good areas. Kew Gardens is nearby and so beautiful 😍
Oh we'll have to check out Kew Gardens next time. Thanks!
You did great. When we go over to France, Belgium and Holland, we have to adjust like you did. Once you take the bull by the horns, it does get easier. We have the same reluctance and nerves at first.
Well done on the London drive, you've just got the single lane rural roads to tackle now.
I started watching your channel only a few months back. Both of you are so genuine and lovely and I get so much from just watching your perspective on things.. Now I'm getting your view of London where I was born and grew up and seeing it through your eyes is as you guys would say "awesome"
If you visit Windsor Castle I do recommend paying the extra to view the dolls house as it's something I've never forgot.
