VanDerek has an Oil & Filter Change - Iveco Daily Self Build Motorhome Conversion

- Just a quick video today guys to show the simple process of doing an engine oil and oil filter change on VanDerek, my Iveco Daily 65C17 ex Prison Transporter that has been converted into a motorhome by myself and my good friend Derek (RIP).
That is the trouble with fresh oil is it is not always easy to see where it is on the dipstick. Some are worse than other. In my younger years I was on a Placement with an RAF MT section, and they used to get me to do the oil changes on the Glider Winch knowing full well that every time it was due the wind would pick up and funnel through the buildings and as soon as you dropped the sump plug the wind would pick up and you'd end up having a shower, you had no choice but to stay there as you couldn't get the Dalek in due to not being able to get it under the frame. so you had to hold an oil pan in place till it had stopped dropping oil. No wonder they used to give it to me to do. As well as look after all the bikes and change the tyres on our fleet of Metro's due to the double beads and how often you'd knacker on just putting a new tyre back on the rim.
One of my favourite memories from there was taking out a Land Rover for a test drive with a Driver as I didn't have a license back then and an Officer stopping us and Bollocking me for not wearing a Beret. If had had looked closer he would have seen that I had not Rank on my coveralls and was wearing civvies under them. Once I had told him that I was a Civvy his face went bright red, and he walked away.
Brilliant Digger. I've spent a lot of time on Brize, Fairford and a fair few others in the past and been in many hangers, I totally understand about the wind funneling through. I get it about the oil and the wind. I always place dogbtraining pads around my bowl now because we get the same type of thing happen down this narrow long road, I find myself chasing the drips at the end coming out of the sump. I didn't show it on this video cos I would have looked a proper wally lol. ATB 👍

Cheers David. We had 2 glorious days with great sunshine and then Monday morning was just torrential. It was hitting the van so hard on one side it exposed a slight drip from a couple of the original windows. They will need resealing, but it's back to smashing the granny out of more shear bolts 👍

You really got lucky with the filter position, at my Ford Tourneo it's located horizontally at the back of the block, wedged between a driveshaft and the oil cooler somewhere. Horizontal filters doesn't run empty, so you would make a mess anyhow...

i buy same oil for our renault master good price these vehicles take so much oil these days i remember buying 5 ltrs off oil from big m motorspares years ago for 4.50 cant even buy a lir now for less than 8 quid i do mine every 6 monthes as we only use it for holidays and day trips with the grand children little tip if you forget to get a new crush washer for sump flip it over it works for a 2nd time great vid all the best donny hope you had a good easter

That sure is an easy oil filter location. I've had engines where I've hammered a bloody big screw driver right through it over and over to get it to turn. I asked a mechanic how they did it, he showed me a bloody big screw driver...
😂😂 yep and it was at that moment I realised I had fxxxed up with the wrong filter to replace it lol, damn screwdriver 👍
Tool of choice for this job is now in the engine somewhere 😂😂

Hello, couldn't help noticing you're using the Michelin cross climate tyres. I'm just about to pull the trigger on a new set of boots for my conversion and these are very well reviewed, but I was wondering if you could comment on how they do on wet grass or slightly muddy surfaces like you might encounter in some campsites or off-grid locations (I won't be off-roading or anything!).
Hey sorry for the late response... sometimes, or most of the time, UA-cams notifications are a bit poor to say the least. So to answer your question... I'm afraid I haven't had experience using this vehicle on wet grass, but I did need towing out of a shingle beech a while back. Performance on wet rainy days has been excellent. That's all I can offer I'm afraid 👍

Yeah this was a genuine filter from the only local-ish motor factor that sells them or I drive much further to Iveco but pay twice as much. You do get a little bit of leakage, but it's not from the filter itself, it leaks from the actually area you fit the filter to as it's on a slight angle but very hard to film. This is what has caused the oil on the hoses at the bottom of the engine bay on the underside of the van 👍

Which weight oil did you use and is it semi-synthetic or fully synthetic?

It is the 6 speed semi auto and yes my friend, regular oil chages.
Did the genuine clutch sort out all your issues..?
It did indeed. Certainly learnt my lesson for certain parts going forward 👍
