My dad left me and my family when I was very little. He wasn't big on country music but I loved this song so he always sang it to me. Now that he's gone, it makes me sad when my best friend (he is a guy) sings it to me. He protects me as much as he can so it's like he's my father. I don't have a father that will fuss with me about a boyfriend, and I'm going to not get the same treatment all my friends do, there fathers argue with them and I wish it was me. Without a father I have no-one to look up too, say "I'm better than you daddy!" Nor anyone to say "I will hunt that boy down and kill him if he hurts you." when I start to date someone. I will miss out. This song reminds me of him and I hate it. I don't want to be remembered of him. I want it to stop.

My dad past in 2018 a couple months after I had moved out of the house. He always remind me to come see him and I always tried. Finally made time to spend a couple weeks at my parents and he ended up passing away 2 days after I was finally there. My father was my beat friend and I'll always miss him. When I head this song when it first came out while I was a Hannah Montana fan this song always reminded me of my dad and how he sees me growing up.

To me, this isn't just about miley, it's about any parent who's child is getting ready to move out and move on with their life, this song brings me to tears every single time, my son just listed in the the US Army today, and I wanted so bad to tell him not to go, but I have to let him spread his wings and fly.
