Could detention center's cameras hold clues in Riley Strain case? | Vargas Reports

- It's been a month since Mizzou student Riley Strain first vanished in downtown Nashville and was found two weeks later in the Cumberland River. Now, the family has raised questions about potential video footage from cameras belonging to a detention center that was just north of where the last ping registered on Strain's phone. Family friend Chris Dingman joined "Elizabeth Vargas Reports" to discuss the family's interest in accessing the footage.

The family has had to work so hard to get answers. That is sad to me. Thank God Chris Dingman has been at the helm of this story to keep it in front of the public. Kudos to NewsNation and other media outlets, too. I think of Riley and the family every day. May they find the answers to their unaswered questions to have true closure.
The community should be pushing to help!!! It could be them or a family member. 😢
@videos7501 naw, we've learned to stay away from all that mess. Nothing but drunk celebrities, tourists, college kids and woo girls.
Leather boots shrink, become abrasive & stiff when wet thoroughly from the inside, making them unlikely to come off on their own.
Can’t believe the detention center hasn’t bothered releasing their video footage yet! WTH?!!
Exactly it seems like nobody cared
Until now coming forth with maybe possibly security images of him
Absolutely disgusting !
Unforgivable!
@@Sufferingsassafrass are they protecting their own...POLICE involved?

Let me get this straight…Nashville PD was able to release the earth-cam footage of Morgan Wallen throwing a chair off the rooftop bar at Chief’s (within 48 hours), but they didn’t check all business cameras in the area of a missing and obviously endangered person? Oh ok…bc that would make total sense 🙄 Prayers for his poor family. They shouldn’t have to be doing their own detective work.
they had a missing report of him on Gay street near the Sherriff's, that night many police were in that area on foot and in cars, that had a break in of a red truck and other crimes going on, they knew that had cam footage of that area way before they decided to let the family see the first one, and it is obvious that video was cut short, they delayed a second one same story, actually it makes them look guilty of the crime more than anyone else!
@@firehorse66elaine absolutely! 💯
Best comment ever!
Nashville PD know exactly whats going on, they were the last to see him
Because dude he never came out from under the bridge. They have proof of that on two cameras already. What are they gunna see?

nashville police want the case to go away, what about the woman they found in the river when they where looking for riley, not another word about her. so much wrong in this town you'd have to be crazy to go there
I never even heard about her… what was her name? Nothing shows up on google about anyone else being found while looking for him
@@jmarie8618but they found a woman… and that’s all they said! Nothing else !
That's because they don't care about anything or anyone and they like the money coming in to the place and no one believes me but the police departments around here in Tri city area's all of them are dirty and they cover up stuff all of the time and it's has been going on here for years but no one believes that because of the small towns around here but these are the best places to do it because no one believes anyone who is telling the truth about what is happening around here because they are higher people involved in all of this and we are just a piece of shit around here but they will have to Anwar to God for what they are doing

Friends don’t let friends do anything dangerous whether it’s drinking and driving or anything potentially hazardous
There have been _so many cases_ of young people vanishing during a night of heavy drinking. If only their friends had accompanied them home....
Were you there? How do you know that the friends didn’t tell him to stay put until they could pay their bill, and in that time, an adult grown very VERY intoxicated man, walked off…
They should have paid the bill at same time. My friends and I do it all the time
@@JuliusSqueezer110 of course, but are you college age?
No but I once was and remember. We all looked after each other to ensure safety
Awesome hopefully they can solve his case ❤ the family needs closure and justice
Its been solved since they found the body.
It’s been solved.
@7531monkey His parents deserve to know exactly what happened to Riley once he stepped under that bridge.
The bridge has a lot of homeless people living near it and hanging out under the bridge.
Just because his body doesn't show signs of foul play doesn't mean that he wasn't robbed and pushed into the river.
*** If the current ripped his boots and jeans off, why didn't it take his socks and boxers, too?
Usually whenever you take your jeans off, your socks get pulled off.
@@addisperez8205I think it's a bit unhealthy to want to seek out every second until their son died. There's been 2 autopsy so far, no evidence of foul play. Toxicology is going to confirm he was drunk and/or high. There is no crime here. He drowned. No one was following him. No marks were found to suggest he was physically harmed. What the family needs to do is grieve. Fixation on finding out every single detail is a means to avoid the inevitable grief. It's heartbreaking that Riley died. But it's almost worse to see the family looking for something that isn't there. They just need to go be with family, and frankly cry. A lot.
@@tishwitchThe second autoposy found that there was not ANY water his lungs, which means he didn't drown.
I'm a Nashvillian and this is the first Ive heard of video near a detention center. The Nashville police is keeping this out of the local news as much as possible.
Riley had shitty friends that didn't watch out for one of their own; case solved.
sorry.he was a 22 old intoxicated. individual.

I’m an adult, have been for years and when I’m in another city with friends, whether drinking or not, we stay together. That’s what friends do. What happened to Riley screams selfishness.
This case from the first day it was public knowledge has been strange.
its so hard to believe that one of his brothers let him walk out by himself in another state which they were not from..
They came ONLY to party and party they did. This is NOT on the city, police, strangers on street, bar, etc. Sorry but it's self accountability and his 8-10 brothers with him that night.
At least one should have walked him to his hotel. Left in a town where he didn't know his way around. So sad
I keep saying there has to be more CCTV footage. There are cameras everywhere these days!

@@Jennifer-nu4ft yes. Unfortunately young people drinking can make bad decisions.
Sadly, they now learned with tragedy.
I am sick to my stomach about Riley’s passing him getting kicked out to his awful “friends” to him being found in the water. His “friends” should be at the NPS in an interrogation room make then spit it out
This can be and should be done.
My heart aches for Riley’s parents and his entire family. My gut tells me that Riley was drugged. His “friends” know more they could have done it to play a prank (immature) or they know who put something in his drink. This is beyond awful. I have a young son I could not imagine something like this. No parent should ever have to bury their child EVER 😔 💔
@nope589 Yes my gut has been instinctively telling me, too, that Riley was drugged. 💯 %!!! How much longer before the toxicology tests finally come back, do you know? I have a very strong feeling that a lot of the answers about Riley's "conduct" (which is how the bartenders at Luke Bryan's bar keep referring to it as: "Riley was asked to leave our establishment due to his 'conduct' while he was here") will be revealed in that toxicology tests that his parents ordered. *WHY was that not done from the very get-go??? Knowing that things were not adding up, the medical examiner should have performed a toxicology test immediately. But instead Riley's parents had to order one on their own. The "conduct" of the authorities handling this case is the only conduct that is off-putting to me!!!
People LOVE to keep blamin "his friends", but the bar made him exit through the back door. When his friends tried to follow, they were stopped and told to pay the bill first. Then, the bar directed everyone to leave through the front door. By the time his friends got around to the back, he was already gone.
His friends are grieving, they shouldnt have to deal with the internets blame game too! 😢😮😮😮
Shame on you
Such a wonderful friend to help out this grief stricken family thank you as well as News Nstion

Drunk or drugged? Pretty odd that the story of the person finding his phone, could not open it so throws it in the river? Why would you do that? Unless covering up something? That phone could have answered a lot of questions. Foul play all the way. Someone is lying.
Shady police
Falling in the river would have not pulled his pants off, belted or not, or his boots. I worked in forensic pathology in the past. External injuries do not necessarily mean no foul play. Did they find the pants or boots? It was reported that there was no water in his lungs, so drowning is unlikely.
Such a truly sad case with no closure for the family.
Why were these not given to parents . Hold The City responsible.
That's what I say!
He is running for a reason. That in itself is so troubling. It’s all so heartbreaking 💔

The dude was robbed and thrown in the river………
Agreed
Yes. And Nashville doesn't want anyone to know.
I believe as drunk as he appeared... he saw river and thought I'll take a little swim and sober up. But not realizing the mighty Cumberland River forces. Hell I wont even swim in it on a clear bright day.
Have they thoroughly searched the river under the bridge for the phone?
Still pretty much no news, right
This is HUGE!
I live about 50 miles from Nashville and have watched all the local news as this unfolded. What I don't understand is why his fraternity brothers let him leave alone and why they have remained completely silent the entire time. Not one interview with a single frat brother and no mention of them anywhere in all these broadcasts. I do not go to Nashville because the sidewalks are full of drunks especially on the weekends and during the summer months. There is no way the bartenders could call taxis, Uber, or Lyft for all of them. At the time Riley was missing there was also a 15 year old autistic boy near Nashville that had gone missing from his home. The policy and the people in the area were looking for both of them. The 15 year old Sebastian Rogers is still missing and not a trace of him has been found.
It’s all very heartbreaking ❤️🩹. I pray for all the families involved. 🙏
Thank god for this family friend 🙏
Keep pushing for the truth , you’re nearly there. Poor kid sorry he lost his life or had his life taken 💔
He was kicked out, not left
I will never understand why the bar made him leave by himself especially seeing the helpless condition he was in. There are no reports of him being any kind of disturbance. All they had to do was stop serving him and tell his friends not to buy him anymore drinks.

This kind of thing happens a lot in British places next to water. Get so drunk they don’t realise where they’re walking into. Took 3 weeks to find one bloke that fell into the sea from the jetty. Smacked his head, went unconscious and that dry drowning occurred. No one knew til that morning that he fell into the sea whilst absolutely drunk, barely able to walk. Sad but true.
It happens in America a lot too.

They should check some of the homeless people. Look for the missing items. Especially the one that said, he threw the phone in the water
You can't just "check the homeless" for the missing items. They are people and have civil rights. That would be illegal search and seizure and violate their 4th amendment rights.
Doesn't the footage fall under freedom of information act? I'm actually curious.
No that’s only for federal records, this is a state building.

I remember you going and pointing out all the cameras on that building. I feel like something is being hidden they don't want anyone to know
He possibly was relieving himself, closed his eyes and became disoriented and fell down the embankment. Given his height his center of gravity was high and he fell over a lower railing. Unfortunately this seems to be a tragic accident of a young man who was intoxicated and alone. I can not blame his friends because young adults make poor decisions when drunk. They will carry the pain of knowing they should have not let him go off alone. My heart breaks for all who loved Riley.
@thepascalshow possibly new info and video on Riley Strain
good for them not giving up
Unfortunately, intoxication and not aware of your surroundings usually don't mix well. So sad.
He said “they put him walking” or did they put him after robbing him
Heartbreaking so many people around him, yet he still headed to such a fate unstopped. He’s younger than all 3 of my kids. Poor son. What happened to him!!
They should get in contact with Apple
Is there a reward for info? The homeless community may know things.
Still have questions about the autopsy showing no signs of trauma, when the camera footage showed him running, falling and smacking his head on the cement pole and rubbing his head into the next footage. That had to have left a mark. I pray the cameras at the detention facility show more. These kids need to also learn and respect the buddy system and quit letting “friends” get stuck out alone especially out of town, drinking😢 I’m still not buying the accident theory. 🙏🙏🙏God help them find the truth for Riley and his family!
There was foul play, the info said now is a lie,it was not an accident, those that said it was an accident are actually criminals, liars,

I work in and detention center..... Those cameras hold the footage up to an server for 6 months after that its downloaded and saved. For lawsuit purposes. He is 100% right they have the footage.
I’ve never seen a person that intoxicated before. He seemed to be running quite well and then he is suddenly staggering and wiping his face.
Did someone spray him with something like mace?
If they could, wouldn’t they have already?
He really looks so intoxicated on camera. Hoping that the family gets the right answers to their questions so everyone may have peace. 😢

@@colleen0229 it was less than 5 secs of encounter in the video.
Ok just have to say this My college daughter was at a frat party and she was drugged tried to walk home with a friend could hardly walk stumbling all over. A male frat brother followed behind to see them home. Well you can guess what happened because it did she made it to her room and thought she locked the door and fell on the bed by this time she she didn’t know he was in her room. He raped her she could not yell or talk she couldn’t move she said she felt paralyzed. She couldn’t call for help the next morning her neighbor came to check on her cause her door was not closed all the way. She found her in the bed not moving she still felt paralyzed and was crying all night until someone found her. I really didn’t want to bring this up to her but she had heard about Riley and she watched some of the video and she thought someone put something in his drink. Because she had felt the say way and had a hard time walking
yep
I also think he was spiked at the bar. The followed maybe with the intent to rob him.
sorry to hear that happened, hope she has been ok since , some people are just monsters
@2:47 I actually feel that black car had been following him you see it in a couple of the other video clips from the other cameras in the longer versions I think from the point he started running it went down that street came around the block and up through the do not enter partitions and then came back around you can also see him and the other guy turn their head and look in the direction of that car which seemed to me like somebody had yelled something out as it drove through the intersection... then you see four very similar black cars parked right around that red truck could it have been one of theirs that whoever could have broke into the truck could have been waiting for the police to leave
I am weak in the beginnings and history of fraternities and can’t speak to what I don’t understand myself, but I can ask questions. Is it just me or is it every time a crime is committed that involves special clubs, that people go silent. Nothing, no words, no help even when innocent life is on the line. Riley’s case, the Idaho 4 case, the number of cases this silence has played out identically is phenomenal. In the I4 case, obvious that information is buried. And here again, Riley’s co-members aka “friends” refuse to help. I don’t understand it.

People just throw toxic phones into the river. Ugh. Some poeple just have no common sense.
That's just a huge clue that the homeless person was hiding something. Why throw it in the river? Searchers were finding other phones on the banks. Someone in that homeless camp must be part of a traffic ring, lure people to the area, rob them then maybe worse and throw in the river.
What are they waiting for?!?
Ridiculous the cops , the city, the businesses do not just do their job, help these poor parents out, absolutely ridiculous!!!
And also someone said they heard a commotion and sounded like they were saying "let's go brandon" but would have been "brayden"
THAT IS WHAT I WAS THINKING, BRAYDEN WAS ONE OF HIS FRAT BROTHERS !
From what I read as well , none of those frat brothers he was there with have not spoken to the family. THAT is very disrespectful . The entire situation is just fishy and heartbreaking.
Foul. Play. Foul. Play
If that man goes by "Joe Joe" and he claims that his friend who is in a wheel chair saw him, for that he is telling the truth, he is with his friend later in the JJ "Justice video" at 2:13:53, you can slow it down and go reverse or forward, also enhance the video to at least 1080p hd. You can see both of them and the wheelchair. There are actually 1 or two more cameras on this building as well. I always felt that something is being covered up for some reason. Those videos were probably sabotaged by now. Need a court order to try to get them ASAP! ua-cam.com/video/9Zmh6BruEdE/v-deo.html
Sounds like his friends played a prank on him that ended in tragedy if there was no faul play involved.
huh? does not sound like that at all..grow up
something is not adding up with this case. but it’s also bringing to light the idea that police can drive information in a way that allows a case to be closed before it’s truly been solved. this family is not accepting that and now doing their own investigation. imagine how many other cases are just closed, covered up, unexplained.
Foul play 💯
His fraternity brothers clearly failed on their "brother"...shame on them!

I honestly thought that from the beginning of all this. They are fraternity brothers and I figured it was like a prank or initiation or something but went horribly wrong. Sad either way you look at it. Plus they claim none of those guys have reached out to the parents. That's disrespectful.

If the police are not involved, they should not have a problem releasing any of the video. And all of the video.
If he was peeing on the top of the bank. He would of unbuckled that belt. Therefore the pants came off from the current. Being possibley 7 feet higher water.
And the boots too ? Nope
Also. The video of the business marathon I believe. Why were you shut out of viewing that. To me it should show exactly what happened.
WHY WOULD HE UNBUCKLE HIS BELT TO TAKE A PEE ?
You forget he's a male?
I don't believe anything the criminally insane say. Why would someone find a phone and toss it in the river, for starters? Any decent person would leave it in hopes someone would come back for it. This homeless person is hiding something. They need to give him a shower and bring him in for questioning.
So was it riley who said "I'm ok, just drunk"? Or someone else? And if his phone fell in the water why hasn't it been found yet, and why did it take this person 3 weeks or more to come forward?? 🤔 glad their starting to get answers but it's sketchy why the detention center isn't viewing cameras 😕
The story I heard was somebody said "he's okay he's just drunk." I don't think at that point Riley could communicate anymore, probably blacking out from roofied.
The person mentioned is homeless from what I understand.
homeless don't have TV
Why would you throw a phone that you find in the river instead of just leaving it there when you realize you can't use it? People are so destructive and unhelpful. I'm SURE the footage from the detention center is going to show a lot more happening than police think, based on the amount of weird activity you can see going down on the full Gay St surveillance footage from right near there. There was all kinds of stuff happening that night with a group of people who appear to be carrying something, people running for no apparent reason, some kind of commotion involving a large group. Even if that stuff has nothing to do with Riley, it could have to do with someone else who's been found in the river as well. The seeming reluctance to scour every bit of possible evidence by the authorities in this case has been really frustrating to witness. How could it possibly take this long for them to even alert the family of this other footage from the detention center? It's been SO long. That detention center footage should have been looked at within a couple of days of when Riley was reported missing. Like, wtf, honestly.
