Could detention center's cameras hold clues in Riley Strain case? | Vargas Reports

  • It's been a month since Mizzou student Riley Strain first vanished in downtown Nashville and was found two weeks later in the Cumberland River. Now, the family has raised questions about potential video footage from cameras belonging to a detention center that was just north of where the last ping registered on Strain's phone. Family friend Chris Dingman joined "Elizabeth Vargas Reports" to discuss the family's interest in accessing the footage.

The family has had to work so hard to get answers. That is sad to me. Thank God Chris Dingman has been at the helm of this story to keep it in front of the public. Kudos to NewsNation and other media outlets, too. I think of Riley and the family every day. May they find the answers to their unaswered questions to have true closure.

Let me get this straight…Nashville PD was able to release the earth-cam footage of Morgan Wallen throwing a chair off the rooftop bar at Chief’s (within 48 hours), but they didn’t check all business cameras in the area of a missing and obviously endangered person? Oh ok…bc that would make total sense 🙄 Prayers for his poor family. They shouldn’t have to be doing their own detective work.

they had a missing report of him on Gay street near the Sherriff's, that night many police were in that area on foot and in cars, that had a break in of a red truck and other crimes going on, they knew that had cam footage of that area way before they decided to let the family see the first one, and it is obvious that video was cut short, they delayed a second one same story, actually it makes them look guilty of the crime more than anyone else!

@@addisperez8205I think it's a bit unhealthy to want to seek out every second until their son died. There's been 2 autopsy so far, no evidence of foul play. Toxicology is going to confirm he was drunk and/or high. There is no crime here. He drowned. No one was following him. No marks were found to suggest he was physically harmed. What the family needs to do is grieve. Fixation on finding out every single detail is a means to avoid the inevitable grief. It's heartbreaking that Riley died. But it's almost worse to see the family looking for something that isn't there. They just need to go be with family, and frankly cry. A lot.

I am sick to my stomach about Riley’s passing him getting kicked out to his awful “friends” to him being found in the water. His “friends” should be at the NPS in an interrogation room make then spit it out
This can be and should be done.
My heart aches for Riley’s parents and his entire family. My gut tells me that Riley was drugged. His “friends” know more they could have done it to play a prank (immature) or they know who put something in his drink. This is beyond awful. @nope589 Yes my gut has been instinctively telling me, too, that Riley was drugged. 💯 %!!! How much longer before the toxicology tests finally come back, do you know? I have a very strong feeling that a lot of the answers about Riley's "conduct" (which is how the bartenders at Luke Bryan's bar keep referring to it as: "Riley was asked to leave our establishment due to his 'conduct' while he was here") will be revealed in that toxicology tests that his parents ordered. *WHY was that not done from the very get-go??? Knowing that things were not adding up, the medical examiner should have performed a toxicology test immediately. But instead Riley's parents had to order one on their own. The "conduct" of the authorities handling this case is the only conduct that is off-putting to me!!!

Falling in the river would have not pulled his pants off, belted or not, or his boots. I worked in forensic pathology in the past. External injuries do not necessarily mean no foul play. Did they find the pants or boots? It was reported that there was no water in his lungs, so drowning is unlikely.

What I don't understand is why his fraternity brothers let him leave alone and why they have remained completely silent the entire time. Not one interview with a single frat brother and no mention of them anywhere in all these broadcasts. I do not go to Nashville because the sidewalks are full of drunks especially on the weekends and during the summer months. There is no way the bartenders could call taxis, Uber, or Lyft for all of them. At the time Riley was missing there was also a 15 year old autistic boy near Nashville that had gone missing from his home. The policy and the people in the area were looking for both of them. This kind of thing happens a lot in British places next to water. Get so drunk they don’t realise where they’re walking into. Took 3 weeks to find one bloke that fell into the sea from the jetty. Smacked his head, went unconscious and that dry drowning occurred. No one knew til that morning that he fell into the sea whilst absolutely drunk, barely able to walk. Sad but true.

A male frat brother followed behind to see them home. Well you can guess what happened because it did she made it to her room and thought she locked the door and fell on the bed by this time she she didn’t know he was in her room. He raped her she could not yell or talk she couldn’t move she said she felt paralyzed. She couldn’t call for help the next morning her neighbor came to check on her cause her door was not closed all the way. She found her in the bed not moving she still felt paralyzed and was crying all night until someone found her. I really didn’t want to bring this up to her but she had heard about Riley and she watched some of the video and she thought someone put something in his drink. I am weak in the beginnings and history of fraternities and can’t speak to what I don’t understand myself, but I can ask questions. Is it just me or is it every time a crime is committed that involves special clubs, that people go silent. Nothing, no words, no help even when innocent life is on the line. Riley’s case, the Idaho 4 case, the number of cases this silence has played out identically is phenomenal. In the I4 case, obvious that information is buried. And here again, Riley’s co-members aka “friends” refuse to help. I don’t understand it.

Why would you throw a phone that you find in the river instead of just leaving it there when you realize you can't use it? People are so destructive and unhelpful. I'm SURE the footage from the detention center is going to show a lot more happening than police think, based on the amount of weird activity you can see going down on the full Gay St surveillance footage from right near there. There was all kinds of stuff happening that night with a group of people who appear to be carrying something, people running for no apparent reason, some kind of commotion involving a large group. Even if that stuff has nothing to do with Riley, it could have to do with someone else who's been found in the river as well. The seeming reluctance to scour every bit of possible evidence by the authorities in this case has been really frustrating to witness. How could it possibly take this long for them to even alert the family of this other footage from the detention center? It's been SO long. That detention center footage should have been looked at within a couple of days of when Riley was reported missing. Like, wtf, honestly.
