  • The CoCoSDC is probably one of the greatest new creations for the CoCo ever, it allows you to use an SD card to storage floppy and hard disk images that can be mounted and ran on a real CoCo as if they were physically attached. It litereally bridges the gap between emulation and real hardware.
The CoCo SDC has been around for a while, and over time, the firmware and DOS versions receive updates.
Part of this video will show you how to update the Firmware and DOS versions on the CoCo SDC itself.
As of the creation of this video the Firmware version is 117 and SDC DOS is 1.4
Another great recent addition to the CoCoSDC hardware is a program called SDCX or SDC eXplorer which is a menu driven utility that allows you to very easily visualize the contents of your SD card, mount images and launch the programs on them.
We will cover how to add the SDCX program to your SD card, and configure the CoCoSDC to auto start the SDCX program, and even run through a few demonstrations on how to use SDCX.
To reach the various web sites you need to get the CoCoSDC hardware, the 3D printed case, and the SDCX software, links are available on my website ogsteviestrow.com

Just got mine from Neil Blanchard and I do love it. I have version 1.6 which I believe is the latest. The Explorer makes browsing these virtual floppy disks so much easier.

Absolutely does, and both the ROM image and the SDCX have been updated significantly since I did this early video, they are completely essential.

Thanks to David Ladd? - I think - for SME support too.

Great info Steve, can't wait for Ed to get his next run of these done. These sort've tut's are really useful, especially for people who've been away from the game for quite a while and aren't across all the new bit's and pieces. Keep dish'in these up and I'll keep sticking my snout in the trough for more.

We will have an addendum soon, too, just learned something new, and, I'll be doing a Dragon version in the near future, too.

Steve is it also the Coco3 that has the keyboard problems with age?
Steve what do we use for Monitor? I have to CRT TVs left in the house. And the monitor I was using years ago was an amber monochrome one, I think it was Apple?

I am not aware of a specific model CoCo having a keyboard issue that's worse than any other version, all the ones I got from eBay, for the most part, all worked well, regardless of model and age.

I know it worked more than 10years ago, placed back in original boxes. That Pack to handle the disk with SD card is great. I bought mine in 1986 and did the 512k upgrade. Ran OS9.

+paul poco which coco do you need to hook a monitor to? The Coco 1 and 2 only have RF out which needs to bee hooked to a TV on channel 3 or 4. The Coco 3 has RGB out as well as RF and composite. The coco 3 RGB is designed for a Tandy CM-8 monitor but there are several options to convert that to VGA and even HDMI via an SCART adapter.

You make things easy, keeps me from having to read :) Any chance of doing a demo sometime on how to use the SDC with Nitros9. I get a bit lost when trying to use it like a hard drive.

Hi Steve, I'm trying to do the same thing on my Dragon 64 but the syntax is different. I can't figure out how to do the auto booting at all. Can you help?

A few things have to be changed to enable Dragon DOS in the SDC, try looking for the manual here: colorcomputerarchive.com/repo/Documents/Manuals/Hardware/ or colorcomputerarchive.com/repo/Documents/Manuals/Hardware/CoCo%20SDC%20User%20Guide%20v4%20(Darren%20Atkinson).pdf
