Well just invest in their culture. This UA-camr seems to have been very drawn to the Chinese culture and went for it. That was their motivation I assume. You can take mini steps by learning the alphabet slowly and making up games to memorize the alphabet. Then looking up videos with basic introduction and wording. おげんきですか？ How are you. I have some Vocab sheets we used in Japanese class that may be of help, although not for Russian.
