Wonderful editing Ashaya. I love the camera angle changes. I loved everything about this episode and can't wait to hear more abut bloodraven especially in the Mystery Knight. I think his sense of humor shows in it.
the UA-cam closed caption translation screws up every time you say George RR Martin it comes out as jar jar Martin and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Dominick Max thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
At long last! Great one Aziz & Ashaya. I can't wait for the other two in the series. I've hoped for this coverage on Bloodraven for a long time. Not disappointed!
Hi friends! Aziz, I just listened to this for the 2nd time & must give huge props to you both. Imo, you make the best videos on Asoiaf. Its been awhile since I've seen you. Hope you had a great Con, Tarzan almost had us set up to go, but we couldn't make it work. So missed finally meeting you & Ashaya in person! Hope you're both well🤴
Hands down favorite character in all of G.R.R. Martin universe. I would read anything with him in it. Imagine novels about him as the hand or even up in The Nights Watch. One can dream.
Seeing a new video from Aziz & Ashaya in my newsfeed instantly gives me a boost of happy. The intro music always always reminds me of Steve the crooked Italian though 😢😢😢🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️✝️✝️
Wow. A really packed episode. Awesome as always. Ser Brynden Rivers is such a fascinating character. I think I need to listen again... Damn you Aziz and Ashaya! I have things to do!
Was he ever knighted? Most mentions have him as a lord by virtue of being a member of the small council, a prince or Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Being a Blackwood in part, he would have been a follower of the old gods, which means he would not normally be a knight
Listening to this makes me bummed that HBO isn't doing a Bloodraven series; I could see it being as awesome as the Jeremy Iron's version of Borgia, with Bloodraven akin to Cesare.
Something to consider is that Bloodraven's strange appearance might have been seen as a positive amongst Old God's followers. Maybe he was something of a messiah figure. Maybe the Raven's Teeth didn't need to be paid because they had some sort of religious loyalty.
Question and hopefully successful solicitation of ideas: does ocean water from the bay of ice flow into the gorge near the bridge of skulls at the wall? It's stated that at least one body of water is down there. As well as shouldn't that gorges depth give some small idea as to the depths of the worm ways under the wall? And it being likely these are the very same cavern system the brothers gorn and goran tricked the giant family and the Côtf out of?
I thought I read or heard somewhere that part of the reason Aegor hated Bloodraven, or at least how it started, was that Bryden got to grow up at court while Bittersteel had to stay at Stone Hedge. I do believe he spent time in Raventree Hall growing up, but I think Bloodraven spent more time at court in the Red Keep than you’ve surmised
It is likely Brynden grew up at Raventree but became a ward of the king in court eg becoming a cupbearer or page. Bittersteel had to spend his adolescent life away from court, missing the opportunities Brynden had. Being fostered at a lord's castle is vastly inferior to being fostered by the king himself.
As soon as Brynden was born, his red eyes would have garnered special attention... It seems to me that if the Singers had ANY presence at or near RavenTree in centuries past, there is a high likelihood that there was some, maybe a very few, but some intermarriage/intermating going on. Think of Snowy Locks with her white locks... and the red eyes the God's would give to offspring of the Singers to mark them as special. Could it be that the ghost of high heart was Missy's sister? aunt? I have to at least consider the possibility that Brynden was marked as a greenseer as soon as he was born. I mean, we don't see ANY other albinos that I am aware of, and yet they must have existed for people to have identified him as one. Maybe the Ghost of High Heart was his teacher.... Something else... the Starks didn't have a Sept until Ned built one for Cat ... so did they have a Septa/Septon? I doubt it.... before the Meisters we had the alchemists.... what did they have before the Septa/Septons other than people like Nan or the ghost of high heart? Teachers. Brynden MUST have had someone to learn from.
Sheira had to have been bookish early on; she just had a lot of knowledge: languages, law, occult, (maybe I heard navigation?). Also, I think she was an odd-eyed girl who looked weird. Then the puberty fairy hit and she became a hottie with an Inner Nerd. ("Horse-face" Arya is often compared to the beautiful Lyanna, so there is precedence)
I just can’t accept that he loved Daemon. He started the war by trying to have him arrested pretty much forcing his hand and then I felt the way he killed him was kind of crappy. I think they still could’ve won even if he hadn’t did that and it might’ve not resulted in Bittersteel keeping the future rebellions going. But maybe is this his future 3 eye raven seeing at work? Like it all had to happen? Sorry I know you all know way more than I do. Really love this channel even though it took me forever to get into this content.
So, I was bit puzzled - wasn't the whole point (well - part of it, at least) of Aegor's bitterness that while his mother was sent away from court when replaced, Missy wasn't - and Brynden was allowed to stay even though his mother wasn't the favorite anymore...? I remember reading this somewhere...
She will still be on camera for livestreams and discussion episodes, as well as Game of Thrones coverage and eventual TWOW and Fire & Blood coverage, but for the scripted episodes, she is on the other side of the camera doing great work there instead. However, there will be an exception or two. We expect her to be on camera for the scripted Nymeria and the Ten Thousand ships episode(s).
Varys may hate magic but doesn't mean he doesn't use It, there's some things varys knows that shouldn't of been possible. Like the dagger Catelyn had. She didn't tell anyone she had it besides the person traveling with her ser Rodrick. Other things to
A small question here, but not about the blackfyres In the series Jaime should be the lord of casterly rock? Or not? Kevan is dead, Jaime is no longer in the kingsguard which means he can inherit and posses lands, titles, etc. So shouldn't he be able to command the lannister troops without cerseis permission? I mean they are loyal to the lord of the west and not to the iron throne?
He is commanding them in the very last episode- however the lordship of Casterley Rock is currently vacant, as the Unsullied took the castle, Cersei is Queen, Tyrion serves another Queen and Jaime himself is supposed to be in the KG. As Randyll Tarly proved in the show (never in the books) he serves the throne and not necessarily the Tyrells. The lords with Jaime serve him but are subject to Cersei's orders
Why does everyone assume bloodraven is the three eyed crow? Bran asks him and bloodraven replies he was once a crow but not anymore (meaning a man of the nights watch and was even taken back by that question) then later goes on to tell him he’s been in his dreams since he was a baby in contrast to the three eyed crow only being in brans dreams since the fall. We even have a dream where bloodraven being the weirwood that speaks to bran and the Crow in it aswell. Why would he feel the need to represent himself twice as two different embodiments in the same dream. Is it because everyone wants the books and the show to be akin? Cause they clearly aren’t
There's quite a lot of evidence that they are the same being, which we will be going over in the third part. For now I will say that it is far more than an assumption, and point out that Bloodraven wasn't fully fleshed out as a character back when the 3 Eyed Crow was written, and that's a big part of the disconnect.
Westeros History I’m pretty sure GRRM had an idea of Bryndan Rivers being Bloodraven’s role to play when he released The Hedge Knight in 1998 and casted one of his Ravens’ Teeth (Squire Dalbridge) in Clash of Kings. Though it is merely speculation. But the trope of misled characters is kind of the backbone to the ASOIAF world and is why there are so many fan theories. I like the idea that the three eyed crow as a separate character in alliance with the Other and children of the forest. But that’s just me I tend to think most assumptions are wrong and that GRRM is trying to mislead us all
wait wait i thought that during dance of dragons sometime one of the sides (not sure which) had a general, or hand of king, or kingsguard idk somebody important but not royalty, and had his throat shot by a crossbow and killed him?? issnt that just like the lord fireball story? or are they the same story haha
Somewhere along the way a Blackwood must have married a Fossoway... and together brought forth the Raven's Teeth... or the Blackwood Archers. A very small percentage of men turn out to be big and muscular... suitable for hand to hand combat with blades and shield...most end up average, and for us guys the best way to make an impact is with archery/marksmanship. So perhaps Bloodraven was just playing the numbers... the law of averages, you know?
I don’t think Bloodraven killed the king and his family with sickness. Aerys makes far more sense and BR is to blame by association, and probably hates himself for teaching Aerys anything. I think no one else died bc they were quarantined in their own chambers (probably by bloodraven’s order). Those in the direct line of succession would be in the family unit in that section of the keep, thus they all died. Could be an accident, could be Aerys. Either way, I’m sure Bloodraven is suspicious of him and took the job as hand to try to keep an eye on him and limit his reach. I could be wrong, I haven’t read AWOIAF yet, or Dunk and Egg, so anyone with any thoughts is welcome to prove me wrong!
No offence to any of your other contributors but I definitely prefer the one-man show for these types of history videos. The conversational style has its place but the narrative flow works better when you're doing historical deep dives, imo. I really got into this one but when I went back to view some of the others I found the back and forth to be distracting.
Wait okay so I know that the blood is important , so I Know that the blackwood blood s there , but I don't think I even realized that dayne blood being there n Jon I mean the blood is almost all of the best of the best blood in westeros ? Wow
Woohoo, awesome compilation. :) He's one of my most favorite theory topics. I'm a big fan of GRRM taking inspiration from mendelian genetics when it comes to handing out magical traits and such. Going as far as Bloodraven being the father of Craster, who's age could match up around the time when bloodraven dissapeared about 48years before the start of the story. (298AC or so) Wich would hint towards a special fire and ice blood unity to create white walkers. (magical valyrian blood+old gods/CotF genetics) Wich happens in the show trough the nightking and in the books it could just happen trough a certain ritual performed by some special other of sorts. I'd even argue that the show version of the nightking, the person who he was before he was turned into the nightking came from some first men tribe with those special magical genetics and some of the descendants from this tribe became starks and others from the same bloodline moved back somewere to essos and at some point, hundreds or maybe even thousands of years later those descendants with that special bloodline end up in the area around old valyria to establish the valyrian freehold. Troughout those eons, both bloodlines have similiar, but not exactly the same kind of magical traits..... greensight/dragon dreams and warging/dragon bonding. But with the unity of Rhaegar and Lyanna of Fire and Ice..... Jonn, has again that strong genetic genepool, perhaps nearly a similiar template to the shows version of the nightking. It will be interesting to see how it will play out in the books. Dan and Dave compress stuff, so in what way was that character of the nightking compressed? Another interesting detail is about the show version of the three eyed raven. He said to brann, that he did not choose to life in a tree for a thousand years. We know that bloodraven in the books would only be the last greenseeer for about 50 years. In the books, is Bloodraven referred to as the three eyed crow or the three eyed raven? Because in every IMDB casting call, the character is named as the three eyed Raven. If those names differentiate from each other, i would argue to keep the possibility open for another merging/compressing of characters by Dan and Dave...... and if that is the case..... what can be extrapolated to try and predict what will happen in winds of winter/dream of springs?
Ah sweet nice to see you guys again :) have you by chance seen the new rpg set in the 1400s it has very realistic amour and weapons and a great story I think you might enjoy it I sure am :) "Kingdom Come Deliverance"
[The following comment is being made in jest, and in appreciation & love of your work.] Do you & LML have a contest as to who can do the longest podcast?
Had a sudden thought about why Shiera Seastar chose Bloodraven over Bittersteel. Partial reason anyway. So! Little Shiera and Bloodraven both love books and the library. Nerds! We all know just because someone is a beautiful woman doesn't mean she started out that way (see also:Arya and Lyanna). Jock!Bittersteel would probably pick on both of his nerdy half-siblings. Then the puberty fairy blesses Shiera and she remembers what an ass Bittersteel was. And therefore, chooses Bloodraven.
Bloodraven and Shiera were loyal to Daeron II who they presumably loved. Aegor Rivers seems like the type to be a tourney champion, a Robert Baratheon type- and saw Daeron as a nerd as well. Bloodraven however was also a great fighter and not just a nerd.
How much do you think GRRM will drop on Bloodraven in Fire and Blood? I think it's reasonable to think we'll know more about his early life and time on the council, but I doubt about his time up north. He'd never give too much away, he loves to keep us guessing and theorizing.
Been looking forward to this one for a while! Great job Aziz and Ashaya!
thanks LmL :)

My favorite character and UA-cam intro. Very nice episode!
It was my favorite until you added the howl. lol
Best intro music!
its so good to watch something that dose not combine the books and the show
I love this episode. This is my second time listening to it and im sure it wont be the last. Great job as always.

There is a theory that she is shiera seastar
After all these years FINALLY!!!! Amazing job for part 1 :)
Great video🎥👍 🔥🔥🔥🐉🐉🐲

Today, outside, there are 20cm of snow.... and you released this!!! Such a wonderful day! Thanks!
Can’t wait for the next part!!! Great content!!!
7:23 What a beautiful dragon!
WOW great job on Bloodraven such an interesting character to me so much and more !!!!
Great work as always!
The audio is glitchy in the middle. I'm listening on headphones though.

However, there will be an exception or two. We expect her to be on camera for the scripted Nymeria and the Ten Thousand ships episode(s).
Those deaths of the king and his heirs during the Spring Sickness . . . very convenient. As a wise man once said:
'If in doubt, blame Bloodraven'.
Where is the Blackwood t-shirt available?!?!?!

The crow is Bran trying to warn himself of something
Bran saw a wine stain on the Raven's face- no one in Westeros seems to have that mark
Bust it! The Ghost of Highheart is the doughter of Brynden Rivers and Leaf :) ofcourse it's just some funny guess...
Mel Dragon craster is his son
1:49:02 Fear and Loathing in Westeros, what a movie/novel that would be!
wait wait i thought that during dance of dragons sometime one of the sides (not sure which) had a general, or hand of king, or kingsguard idk somebody important but not royalty, and had his throat shot by a crossbow and killed him?? issnt that just like the lord fireball story? or are they the same story haha
Somewhere along the way a Blackwood must have married a Fossoway... and together brought forth the Raven's Teeth... or the Blackwood Archers. I've always kind of pictured a paler Tom Hiddleston in the role.
