My memories of Blob's go back to my first performance there back in the very early 1970s. I had to ride my bike from Hyattsville to get to the gig (didn't have a license yet), with my horn strapped to the back...subbing for someone long forgotten in a polka band that hasn't existed for 40 years. I'm thrilled to be able to say I'll be performing again with my current band at Blob's on Friday the 28th as we celebrate the legacy of Blob's Park on their final weekend. Some time back they expanded their musical offerings from polkas and ballroom to a variety of genres including current dance music, Motown, Country, and classic rock. The huge crowds that have come out to Blob's to catch our performances there over the past year have been in awe of the atmosphere and camaraderie that exists there. It's just a GREAT place to come to dance. I think it's wonderful that a whole other generation has had an opportunity to experience what a classic dance hall is all about before it disappears like so many of it's predecessors. To Max and Sandra...congratulations on finding each other, and thanks for keeping Blob's Park going for these past few years, and for allowing Oracle to be a part of that time. Best wishes on a long and happy life together. We're going to miss you!
I remember my dad, my aunt and uncle taking me there when I was 15! That was in 1965! Yup! It was a lot smaller back then and some man asked me to dance and I said no! I was just too young and dumb. Lol
I will miss Blob's Park, I've been going there regularly for years. A truly wonderful place, You can sit with a meal & a cold beer and listen to good German music. I will miss conversing with older friend's and taking in the scenery of the ground's!
Does anyone know if he found another venue? I really enjoyed going to these even as a young person, two stepping and the Buddy Holly Night and the Beers.
