I had modified an old broken canon 350d that had a damaged card reader. I used the main circuit board form a second 350d that had a damaged shutter. I did this last week and when put back together I was getting contant error 99 from the camera. After watching your video, I decided to look again at the camera and have a play. I did a reset camera settings, and low and behold, it started working! Thanks!!
Thanks Angus. Useful to see that comparison and I’ll be pulling the trigger soon. Just got an 800D, the sole reason to get it modified and keep my 6D for everything else. I was toying with the idea of the Baader mod but having seen you say your 60d is knackered from just astro use perhaps it’s not worth that when I’ve got the 6d for regular use already.
It's very possible that my 60d is just old, and lived a long photographic life before it got to me. I didn't ask the seller for the shutter count and she was an avid photographer. Also, I imaged a lot since it came into my possession. I still think you should modify yours because the results is incomparable for not a lot of money. That, or get another body that is already HA modified.
Thank you! By the way, I've subscribed to your channel, you have some good stuff, especially that PEC video. Would you consider subscribing to mine if you haven't already? I've got more videos to come!
I really enjoyed your video,so I liked and subscibed. I bought a Canon T3i and will modify it very soon. I bought it new, as I am planning to use it a great deal. Thanks again, cheers Angus.
I think the biggest benefit of using an Ha-modded DSLR is portability. You can take it, a star adventurer and a tripod, stuff them into a backpack and head out. With a dedicated cooled camera, you now need to include a 12V power supply and a computer.
Absolutely! I hope by me using the Star Adventurer Pro, I was able to convey that message across. We all know the computer connection is more headaches than rainbows in the beginning.
I think the daytime photography thing is overblown. Using a simple gray card takes seconds to do and will return the photos to normal very quickly. You can also get an Original White Balance clip in filter. I can't really tell the difference between them.
that looks pretty good but id say you're having issues because at 40-45 sec with my 60d ha moded camera its pretty darn apparent ...but this is still a great example of the mod and why its important
and by the way I've seen a video posted by astrobiscut where he added a small fan to the bottom of his dslr to help with the sensor...I wonder if that would help? I've pondered doing it to mine
@@hillbillyphoto83 not going to lie, I think that are fundamental issues with my imaging train. I am trying to sort that out. I don't know how much the fan would do, because my nightly/overnight temps are in the 40F's already. That, or I'm just coming up with excuses for my upgrade itch... Haha Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate your inputs and they're spot on! 🙂
@@hillbillyphoto83 thanks buddy! If I know it, I would share it. Retaining knowledge won't magically make my crap images look any better... So why not share them?
First off, love your work! Second, unless you have software that interacts with a modified Canon or Nikon beyond just telling it when to click, just get a cheap Fujifilm. They are "Astro modified" out of the box.
What are your thoughts on leaving the cmos bare vs adding a filter in front? Also do you know of anyone who sells filters for a Nikon d600 or a filter size I can cut myself.
It really depends on: 1) your local light pollution, and how bad is it. 2) what objects are you trying to image? Emission nebulae and broadband targets would require different set of filters. Have you checked out my other videos on filters?

Try a clip in filter too . My single 15 second exposures show more detail than yours, using a modified 700d, iso 3200.
