Quick note. The models you used to represent the 105 sherman and 75 sherman were backwards. The 105 sherman is easily identified by its wider mantlet and slightly shorter barrel.
I have noticed that in recent years it has become very fashionable to "rubbish" the Sherman - saying it was outclassed by the German tanks, it had a tendency to blow up when hit, etc, etc In fact the Sherman is a VERY good general-purpose fighting tank. Considering it was only their third real go at making a tank it was a considerable achievement by the US army. In fact, when it was introduced in mid-1942 (its first real test was the battle of El Alamein) it was the best fighting tank in the world. It was only the accelerated technical development of war that made it outclassed, and as you illustrate, the US was proficient in upgrading them with improved armor, guns etc. Flexibility was its advantage. The Sherman was still in widespread use around the world right into the 1970's. i agree it was probably THE vehicle used as the base "standard tank" for FOW. by which I mean all other tanks are defined and costed by how they compare to the Sherman.
Quite possibly true for LW, though at one point a BF employee stated that for MW the KV-1 was the tank around which everyone had to be balanced and priced.
The Chieftain and some other people have also pointed out that the Sherman had to fit logistic requirements. It had to be transported on standard US gauge railways and it was far less of a problem on transport ships.
you all prolly dont give a damn but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Mohammad Maximilian I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Nice to have you back! Very good point Shermans need to move! I like having Priest lay down smoke and have Shermans push. I usually try to have two different artillery batteries that can at least lay down two rounds of smoke. Lately Stuart company has been my favorite Mid-war I love how fast they can put pressure on the opponent even though they have almost paper thin armor but are fast enough to make anyone worry about an objective. They also handle infantry well by using their MGs. I agree, element changes when Shermans are on the move rather then the slow attrition which a US player will take a beating on.
My 2nd SS Panther Panzer Company (prior to version 4) use to make short work of my friends Sherman company. He neglected to use smoke to cover his charges usually. Some times he would rush his Stuarts, Shermans and Armoured Infantry at my Panthers at the same time. That was always scary.
I know its an old video but im just getting round to it after being a new starter to the game. Up till now Ive been using Germans versus a friends Russians, and we are expanding our collections. Im building a sherman company based force to go against his dday germans. Ive always loved the sherman....absolutely an iconic piece of WW2. I'm magnetising the turrets currently and painting too. Looking forward to using them....the video largely confirms my thoughts from looking at the books, but its good to hear it from a Sherman Master! Thanks.
I just played my first game of FoW this week. I played as Germans and I got swarmed by Shermans and Stuarts. I think I may have to try a tactic of completely smashing against one of the flanks to keep myself from being overwhelmed in the future.
Great video, and I would definitely want to see more of this style. Aa far as Shermans go, I agree with most of that but am a little guilty of being a too scared of Tigers and overprotective of my 76s, it drags the battles out too much that way.
Agreed Tigers are scary, they rarely fail their remounts if you are lucky enough to bail them. Aces make it an easy choice between choosing Tigers over Panthers.
True, I'm doing the Tiger next and agree... sometimes though you just have to go for it in the Sherman, yeah sometimes it's terrible but sometimes everything falls together and you roll over the Germans without breaking a sweat.
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall That definitely happens too, and for me the caution was unnecessary as the only few battles ive played have been with friends who werent really prepared.
Sherman 76 is an awesome value for points. When you consider it is the same points as a Panzer IV and will dominate the latter in basically any setting due to longer range, higher AT, Stabilizers and higher FA, it's a must add. AT12 is also very much a sweet spot for LW V4, where you start to have a chance to kill heavier stuff that is actually or nearly immune to AT11 tanks. The MG array also means the No HE rule is no penalty at all - just fire those 50 cal and normal MGs if it comes to that.
i have about 10 75's and 10 76's. I have not bought any 105's yet. Still trying to figure out how to build m-10's using the correct parts as the on line directions say.
Sherman 76's don't have smoke. You need to take 75's for that. Too bad you can't have a mixed Sherman platoon. (I think maybe they added that in the Bulge book)
Thanks I enjoy very much your video. I'm pretty new in the game and only played German so far. I'm slowly building a 3 Canadian Infantry Division (British) So I appreciate learning about the Sherman tank.
So you think the Bradley has n team Yankee would be here soon plus more US infantry like Rangers and Marines also Beach invasion equipment AND a M1A2 Abrams
I really like you're fow battle reports, but I don't play the game because there isn't really a community around where I live. So I would mind some tutorials on how to play.
As a German player I have yet to find an American player whose figured the out. I use my blitz and shoot and scoot orders all rhe time to minimize their effectiveness while maximising my own. Now that I'm building a D-Day American army, all I picture is running them up for flank shots. No different than how I play my Leo 1s against an Abrams or Leo 2 in Team Yankee.
As someone who rocks nothing but shermans, I say no player can ignore bringing at least three shermans with 75mm for infantry support, if their army allows it.
I would add that the M4 76mm has better armor than the normal Sherman which in my mind makes it superior to the Panzer IV and a threat to Tigers and even Panthers, especially on the flanks. Yeah, the 76mm Sherman makes me nervous as a German player. It's a pretty fair tank and the US can bring a lot of the things into the game!
A lot of war gamer's think the Sherman tank was a joke, the truth is it was a very good AFV if used properly. All AFV's have three parts to their ability to win a battle 1. fire power, 2. armor protection 3. a motor; most war gamer's tend to forget that the Tank was designed to break the stalemate of the trench warfare in WW One, and in the 1920's on the Salisbury plain in England The British showed what could be done using mobile armored warfare. What could be accomplished. which the Germans were he only ones to figure out how to make it work. Any body that wants to do a study of 1939 -1940 campaign will discover that Germany attacked Poland with MK 1's and 2 and a few Mark 3's the ones had MG 34's for main armament the two's had a 20 mm gun and the threes had a 37 mm gun. they won the battle by out maneuvering the Polish, French, and English. So start using the motor and don't worry so much about having the biggest gun on the table an see what happens to your opponent when you out flank them as they actually realize what has happend . Now for my rant about the gun issue, all tanks have a weak spot find it and you win. as for the 76 mm it did actually have a HE shell though not as effective as the 75 mm in fact the 75 mm lethal blast radius was about the same as the 105 mm but the crater was smaller which made it easier for the tanks to get around after the Artillery bombardment. The following is from Wikipedia While the 76 mm had less High Explosive (HE) and smoke performance than the 75 mm, the higher-velocity 76 mm gave better anti-tank performance, with firepower similar to many of the armored fighting vehicles it encountered, particularly the Panzer IV tank and StuG assault gun vehicles. Using the M62 APC round, the 76 mm gun penetrated 109 mm (4.3 in) of armor at 0° obliquity at 1,000 m (3,300 ft), with a muzzle velocity of 792 m/s (2,600 ft/s). The HVAP round was able to penetrate 178 mm (7.0 in) at 1,000 m (3,300 ft), with a muzzle velocity of 1,036 m/s (3,400 ft/s).[34] Round summary[25][35] Projectile Complete round Projectile weight Filler/core Muzzle velocity Range M42A1 HE 22.11 lb (10.03 kg) 12.87 lb (5.84 kg) 0.86 lb (0.39 kg) 2,700 ft/s (820 m/s) 14,650 yd (13,400 m) M62A1 APC 24.55 lb (11.14 kg) 15.43 lb (7.00 kg) 0.144 lb (0.065 kg) 2,600 ft/s (790 m/s) 16,100 yd (14,700 m) M79 AP 24.24 lb (11.00 kg) 15 lb (6.8 kg) None 2,600 ft/s (790 m/s) 12,770 yd (11,680 m) 12,770 yd (11,680 m) M88 Smoke 13.43 lb (6.09 kg) 7.6 lb (3.4 kg) 3.3 lb (1.5 kg) 900 ft/s (270 m/s) 2,000 yd (1,800 m) Just some thoughts from an old time war gamer of over 50 years by the way You did a great job on the video.
Nice review! Check out my show, Chatting with Friends on youtube, episode 4, where I’ve done a live head to head comparisons between Sherman 76s and PZ 4. You will see there why PZ4s and 76s cost the same. Take care!

Excited to see more in the series
Great to see new content. Keep well and God bless
Great to see a new video from you!
The D-day Churchill and it’s variants would be a neat tank to cover in the future.
I will definitely do that!
Thanks for the video! Definitely informative as I finish painting up my Hit the Beach units and prepare for my first games!

I do have a soft spot for Shermans for sure. Sherman gameplay favors the bold, I hope you enjoy them!
Excellent overview, thank you.

I begun with FoW V4 a few days ago. Played the first game with my V3 Americans. LW army deal is on the way. Thanks for this video! Hope for more.
And the Tiger said, " So many Shermans, so little time."
Great video, and I would definitely want to see more of this style. Aa far as Shermans go, I agree with most of that but am a little guilty of being a too scared of Tigers and overprotective of my 76s, it drags the battles out too much that way.

(I think you had the 105s and 76s turrets muddled up 😉
You mean 105 and 75 turrets.
Yup, I noticed that in editing!
Great Stuff! As a new player this information is very welcome.
Like the video. Would appreciate one on the British Shermans
please do a video on the tiger! it has changed a lot through the versions!
Definitely, I'm not 100% sure if theyre worth the 12 points each, 24 minimum for a legal platoon
Just finished fimling the Tiger, will edit this weekend.
This type of video is great ! 😉👍🏻

If you do more of these it would be great to get one on the ”Panzer Series” aka II, III and IV.
i have about 10 75's and 10 76's. I have not bought any 105's yet. Still trying to figure out how to build m-10's using the correct parts as the on line directions say.
Great video, very in depth. I would love to see some of these types of videos for all the other nations, especially Soviets.
Noted!
Sherman 76's don't have smoke. You need to take 75's for that. Too bad you can't have a mixed Sherman platoon. (I think maybe they added that in the Bulge book)
Hey can you do unit reviews for the British? I am interested in the Commando and SAS lists?
I would love to Currently our British collection is limited but we have plans to grow it!
Thanks I enjoy very much your video. I'm pretty new in the game and only played German so far. I'm slowly building a 3 Canadian Infantry Division (British) So I appreciate learning about the Sherman tank.
Glad I could help!

Keep it up Jon can’t wait to see the next one!
Just filmed a Tiger Tank talk
Nice vid! Are you planning on making a video every day? If so, that would be great since there is only so much I can do with the pandemic...
Thanks, I'm gearing up for that but probably not right away.
Sounds great! :)
Great video, keep 'em coming
Thanks, will do!
thank you very much
wish you showed the spur so i could see which one is the 105 gun
Yes would love to see more, maybe also Team Yankee, Oil Wars?

nice one, but you mixed up the 105 and the 75 miniatures ;)
I noticed that in editing! When filming I'm looking through a tiny rangefinder and didn't notice!
Its just a small detail and it dosnt matter at the end. Carry on the good work.

Will do
I think you have got wrong 105 and regular sherman
