As a LT in high school, I used to widen the gap like hell on speedy D Ends. They’d either run themselves out of the play or have to crash hard inside where I had better leverage. Best defender I ever had to block was on my team thankfully so practice made perfect.
At 5:18 it’s actually Trayveon Williams who had the block against the Titans (4th string RB). Zac Taylor and a few other coaches have cited multiple times how every RB they bring in or draft has to have a good understanding of protections.
Trayveon has basically made his way to 3rd now. Hell, I think Evans was inactive Sunday against the Browns. Evans has not flashed the way I thought he would this year. Some could say he’s not getting the opportunities but if the coaching staff isn’t putting him in there much, especially while Mixon was out, that tells me a lot. He had the go-ahead TD against the Chiefs but he was also wide open. Outside of that, I can’t think of a lot of great plays he’s made this season. Trayveon has stepped up. And he’s good in pass pro, as shown in this video.
@@no2_j he was a one man show in preseason. I'm also hesitant with the staff moves. We kept Mike Thomas who was cheeks last year and preseason and kept him over Mark Pryor who was balling in preseason as well. Mike cost us with a few drops and was eventually released. So who knows
As a long time suffering Bengals fan, it is good to see them finally getting attention for doing things right. Great breakdown on one of the most under appreciated parts of the game.
Spotted the Bengals using an unsual alignment on their line this season and wanted to break down how it's been effective at finally keeping Burrow upright! Let us know what you want to see a video on next ⬇⬇⬇ P.s Apologies to Trayveon Williams for crediting his awesome pass pro to Chris Evans.
I am glad the line is at least playing a lot better than last year. Last season's Bengals would have been SB champs if they just played average in the big dance. Very optimistic as a fan of the team in stripes.
Bruh That Rams DL was one of the best ever. You paired AD with another Generational Talent and they could do whatever they want. By Lining up AD or Von Outside and Isolating either one of them you cannot win. Although they would've keep Burrow Healthy in that Game, his knee was horrible on one of those Sacks.
This was a phenomenal break down video of explaining the intricacies in an easily understandable way for the casual NFL fan. Well done by everyone who put this together.
They just needed time to improve, the first two games were just tough matchups for an offensive line that had 4 new players, through the season they got better and now Joey B is in the mvp conversation.
Honestly, with this stretch of wins, I’m once again a happy Bengals fan. It sucked for years dealing with a team that seemingly didn’t even try to win, but now with some money and good players, the fire is back
A good running game is so underrated. Seen so many games where a team keeps on pounding the ball with the run, controlling TOP, and then dominating the latter half of the game. Yards aren't everything. Trying to bring down a back in a groove while getting pushed around by the O-line can really take its toll on a defense. As a result it makes other elements of the offense better.
This was so informative, and broke down so well and throughly that a 5 year old could understand it and explain it to the next person. Great video. You just got a new follower 👌🏾
Awesome video! As a Brit, we have never been exposed to things/terminology Americans take for granted. Was very grateful at the breakdown of the number tech!
Thank you for breaking this down for me. I was not even a football fan until Joe Burrow came to Looziaana to play for LSU. I fell in love with him and can overall just see his greatness in play, but I don't know enough about the nuances to actually know what I am seeing. Bengals gonna win this one!
You're such a great instructor. I have a much greater understanding and appreciation for defenses in general, even though I'm just a fantasy football player
Really good video. As someone who never played football but watched NFL a lot growing up its really cool to hear the amount of strategy that goes into the o-line
Honestly, this is one of the best football videos I've ever seen. This video teaches something that can't be discovered on a game of Madden, and it actually does a great job teaching why the change in alignment works, and why it only works the way the Bengals implement it. Everything on the video, from the clips and graphics to the narration, are all spot on. The narrator is easy to listen to without being boring, and he's not trying to go over-the-top in order to appease the YT Algorithm. Thinking Football - Thank you very much for making this video, I'm going to subscribe and return to your page.
Fantastic video. Love the graphics and a breakdown geared at fans who aren't deeply aware of the inner workings of NFL playbooks, but don't need Football for Dummies.
I'm not a football expert, but as a casual fan I've noticed a shift this season, Mixon is finding holes in the defense on the outside and Perine is able to just barrel through the middle. It seems half way through the season the Bengals realized this and took advantage.
The one thing that really bothers Joe Burrow in the pocket is the tackle getting beat inside, especially on the right side of the line. I wasn't paying attention to the splits as much but since Joe duznt drop back as far as Mahomes and Allen like to, as long as the tackle duznt get beat inside they can run the rusher by Joe and he is great at stepping up and out of the pocket. The Bengals are my second favorite team to the Eagles(because I became a fan when they got Burrow cuz i am a fan of him) and I haven't got to watch as many games cuz they are playing at the same time a lot, but I am just glad they got their stuff together because I don't want Joe to get injured again.
I don't really watch football, nor did I play that much, but this video has given me a new way to watch, being able to understand play call and how you can draw out what coverage is coming. Very good video
I also think Jonah struggled so much against the Browns the first meet up was due to his dislocated knee cap two weeks prior. He hadn't seemed himself after injuring it in Baltimore, but since the bye week seems significantly better. I'm sure it's a bit hard to play O-Line at a high level with a dislocated knee cap 😂
@Elliott yeet oh yea for sure! Especially when putting 300+ lbs on it while also having other 300+ lbs players pushing against. Crazy he was even able to play through it.
Hey I don't know if you know this but Jonah Williams is actually playing through a ligament injury, he dislocate his kneecap vs the Ravens and came out with an MCL sprain. So keep that in mind when you watch him.
First time watcher, probably got this because I’ve been watching videos about Baker Mayfield’s improbable march down the field last Thursday. Good stuff.
Between his 1st and 2nd seasons at LSU, Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, and the other receivers did A LOT of practicing on reads and broken plays. Damn, imagine this Bengals team with Chase, Higgins, AND Justin Jefferson. Not for nothing, I think Joey B started showing us who he really is in the Fiesta Bowl against UCF at the end of his 1st season at LSU: 21-34 and 394 yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT
I remember playing QB in highschool on a air raid team . Our lineman’s splits were so close due to being undisciplined it felt like I was in closet most drop backs . When we fixed the problem our linemen splits were legit 3 to 4ft from each other but the protection was insane . Small but major difference
The problem is when you use it for a run then there is a massive hole for the dt to loop around and blow the play up. And if you only do the split for runs then you create a tell which the bengals already have while in the gun.
I wonder when the game will revert back to a power run offense. It's only a matter of time. If defenses keep focusing on speed and quickness, eventually there will be a team that will try to revive the power run game. I can't wait to see it.
For what it’s worth… Remember and Atlanta had ., WR White & Jones and TE like Gonzales along with M Ryan and well everybody remembers that Bowl game. So you need more than A good QB 2 all star WR possibly the TE and quality run game.
I had to watch a video made by someone that isn't a Bengals fan to finally find someone who knows what the hell they are talking about. The Bengals UA-cam sites have nothing but tools that lack all objectivity and only want to talk about how great JaMarr Chase is. Not that he's isn't but he's not the main driver of this team. Burrow and the o-line is and their play during his absence proves it. The interior of the o-line is now pretty good. Karras and Cappa are really good and Volsen is making great strides. La-ell Collins is better but is still immobile and isn't a long term solution and Jonah Williams is a bust and needs to be replaced at the end of the season. They don't have to be great though when you have a QB like Burrow so hopefully they are good enough. Hopefully this time clueless Taylor catches on and runs more against Clevelands poor run defense( Something as you pointed out he failed to do the first time) especially when your line is struggling in pass defense. Taylor is holding Burrow back. Anarumo for head coach!
Excellent video. New subscriber. Some blame goes on coach. An almost completely new group with a rookie and they didn't play together at all in the preseason and it certainly showed, especially in the first few games. I'd be fine w/ Jonah being replaced when his deal is up.
Whoa... I hope the Browns Defensive room has come to the same conclusions and devised appropriate measures to deal with these situations. Gonna be a long day, if not... Thanks for this analysis.
Happy I found this channel. I notice this split during the Cowboys game. Collins was getting his ass whooped by Parsons. Beat that man like Debo taking Reds bike😂😂😂 Note I'm curious how Mixon will fit in since he's the weaker blocker out of the four tailbacks. At 5:18 it’s actually Trayveon Williams who had the block against the Titans (4th string RB). Zac Taylor and a few other coaches have cited multiple times how every RB they bring in or draft has to have a good understanding of protections.
Aye good to see Trayveon Williams, he was quite good for us at TAMU
Excellent breakdown. “The line has looked strong from left GUARD to right tackle.” 😂
Yeah, Jonah Williams hasn't looked great this season. Dude frequently seems too slow to play Tackle.
I feel like Lael Collins has had some pretty touchy games as well
@@bryceferguson8409 Fr
He ain’t wrong. Jonah just ain’t it, at least not at LT. I think he’d make a better guard bc he just can’t keep up with NFL level edge players
The back in mention at 5:22 is actually Cincinnati's 4th string back, Trayveon Williams. But the point still stands lol
Yup Chris Evans got benched from that holding call in like the first five minutes of the game
makes it better almost

Hey, why does 7 come before 6 in the 0-9 tech?
Been watching La'el Collins do this all year, and nobody has said a word about it... THANK YOU!!
I am glad the line is at least playing a lot better than last year. Last season's Bengals would have been SB champs if they just played average in the big dance. Very optimistic as a fan of the team in stripes.
The first few games were pretty brutal but that was to be expected with a whole new unit.
Bro the O-Line has only given up 4 holding penalties for the entire year they are underrated

@@ThinkingFootball In a weird way, Mixon being out allowed Perine to play to his real style. Before that, Perine only came in for situational plays.
