I thought this was a great video for me as it cleared up several uncertainties I had. This video was straight to the point very clearly. Looks like it was posted 2 years ago... I can't believe there are only 74 comments. That said, I thank you for helping me realize I was over complicating what comparators do and how.

A better example would be if you used a zener to establish Vref - because your comparator desdign relies on a completely stable Vcc.
If you are (for instance) monitoring a battery output voltage and using the battery for Vcc you need a zener to produce a reference below the minimum battery voltage and a potential divider for the Vcc to Gnd - giving an absolute general purpose comparator design that works over a range of source and target voltages (especially if you put a variable resistor into the potential divider).

But I don't understand that why you connect the 4.7k Load between VCC and output. At 9:03

EXCELLENT video and tutorial the whole way through. I really loved it! Thank you for refreshing my theory and application. I really needed it! PS. your voice is quite relaxing to listen to :P ! Makes the video easy to watch.
PPS. Small conversational English tip for speaking about units : when you speak of temperature, you do not need to say (x) degrees OF celsius - you can just say (x) degrees celcius - the same way you would say (x) metres, not (x) OF metres. It is probably because you are a mathematician too (:

using 120/240V on a breadboard is not a wise thing to do. Putting the relay away of it and activating it with wires going outside the breadboard is much safer for both the equipment and the operator.
Same : don't use flames. There are many safer and inexpensive ways to heat the sensor to 35°C than using a lighter.
Finally… well, the application of such circuits is barely what I consider real life. Generally we don't need a temperature threshold to light something up (a photoresistor might be a better choice) nor we need a relay to turn a low voltage DC fan on (a small transistor is enough). Maybe a good application might be to use the temp sensor on the transistor to make a crude temp protection for it.
All in all, the analog sensors are not precise and have high tolerances. In real life, digital ones are often less of a hassle and that's why we use small microcontrollers instead of simple comparators, or on the other side engineers use inexpensive electro-mechanical circuit-breaker thermostats on many industrial and home appliances, no electronics required.
