    Completely against all his politics. Can't think of anything worse than breaking the union apart, but as a person with principles and convictions, I had a lot of respect for him. He was charming and well-informed and principled. What sturgeon and her acolytes done against him was horrendous as well. RIP to Alex.

      @@minty258 it's not a 'union' and was never intended to be one. Scotland was stolen from Scots in 1707 and again in 2014. I for one am devastated by the loss of Alex Salmond, but I am nevertheless confident that the 'union' will not prevail.

    • @minty258
      @minty258 7 днів тому +2

      @eleanorbarrie3527 so if it wasn't a union then what was the act of union? We didn't steal Scotland 1707 and indeed the Scottish stuarts ended up on the throne, hardly stolen. And Scotland voted in 2014, hardly stolen. The majority of Scots clearly see their future and prosperity remaining in the Union, which is a completely smart decision in my opinion.

      @@minty258 The Union of the crowns isn't the same as the 1707 'union'. The Crown in Scotland is not the same as the Crown in England anyway but that's another issue. The political arrangement that has been in place since 1707 is anything but a 'union' and that is obvious. A true union consists of an equal partnership and the current travesty is anything but, indeed it is currently being used as an instrument to asset strip Scotland as though she is a colony. My country WAS stolen thanks to the avarice and ambition of some greedy Scottish nobles who were basically bribed to agree to the Treaty and sold Scotland out. England also behaved aggressively towards Scotland during the negotiations, placing a standing army at the border,sending their navy into Scottish waters and creating the Alien Act (nothing to do with wee green spacemen btw), among other things. Nevertheless, had there been a democratic political system then, which allowed ordinary people to have their say, the Treaty is unlikely to have gone ahead
      as ordinary people in both Scotland and England did not want it; there were riots and demonstrations in both countries against it and militias were formed in Scottish towns to defend the nation if it came to that.
      Re. 2014 ref, this was (at best), manipulated. There were many anomalies that were never properly investigated or challenged including a few results which were extremely questionable...
      The British state is one sleekit entity and has had 317 years to perfect its machinations. However, we can, and are, looking beyond the British state for an escape route should we so wish, and judgements on Scotland's status within the pretend union and on the latter itself.

    Before the rise of the Nationalists in Scotland in a warped vogue period, Scotland had a special unity with one another. They destroyed that, just as Sturgeon, Yousaf and Swinney destroyed
    the very movement they were custodians of. Salmond would have been a broken man in 2026 when he witnessed the complete demise of the Nationlists at Holyrood. Let's face it, Alba
    no more. SNP wipeout.
