  • A complete guide on how to replace your worn out shifter bushings!
    I also go over how to build your own shirt shifter (if you have a welder), as well as how to install a pre-made Civic short shifter!
    This is a longer video, I have captions when to skip ahead if you just want to see the bushing replacements.
    I highly recommend buying the parts in this video from TheFestivaStore.com
    This video applies to tons of 80s-90s Ford, Mazda and Kia vehicles, including the Ford Escort, Mercury Capri, Mercury Tracer, etc.
    The civic shifter shown in the video is available here. Be sure to look around on ebay, many colors and styles are available.

    You should have used a masking tape to tape the nut before putting the linkage in place so it does not keep dropping. remove the masking tape after tightening the bolt

    Love the thumbnail and thanks for the educational video. I know I hate being hit by the shifter while sitting in the passenger seat.

    I just did replaced the bushings in my Festiva, today. I used the solid bushings. I don't recall how many times I dropped that nut, but I'm sure the whole neighborhood heard me cussing.

    Time for a laugh! Instead of grinding off the welded shaft up front and replacing it with a bolt, I put some small zip ties on either side of the tee to tighten up the joint. It works fairly well. Lol

    Hey!
    Just recently picked up an 89 5 speed. Previous owner stated that the transmission is such in 1st gear. After getting it home and up on stands I can see someone has already changed it all the bushings in the linkage. Shifter is really tight and won't shift to neutral. Clutch engages and disengaged as it should... any idea what could cause it to be bound up like that?
    Huge thanks for all your videos, I have a long way to go on this little project!

    Anyone have a source for the lower nylon bushing that the shifter ball fits into?

    • @SametIndustries

      I sourced the last ones on earth a few years ago, they are no longer available sadly.

    shouldn't there be a shield on the exhaust section below the shift rod/linkage union? That closer proximity to the pipe has the potential to cook those new bushings. Probably one reason the Civic rod uses bearings

    • @SametIndustries
      @SametIndustries  2 роки тому

      From the factory the entire exhaust is shielded, but the aftermarket units are not

    The part that the shifter linkage bolt to by the transmission my boot has come off and I can move it back about 2 inches what is that part and is that broke

    • @SametIndustries
      @SametIndustries  3 роки тому

      That's the actual shifter, moving it in and out is what shifts the gears. The boots tear often, but are very difficult to replace.

    Hello! I know this is late but I got myself the Civic Shifter For my festiva. With it was the 2 small bearings will it be enough to close the gaps? I have not tried installing it yet but seeing the video it felt like the 2 bearings are not enough to close the gaps. Thanks!

    • @SametIndustries
      @SametIndustries  Рік тому +1

      You will need some little spacers to fill the gap with the bearing style civic shifters

    Do I Need Both Long And Short Shifter Bolts ? What's The Difference Other Than Length.

    • @SametIndustries
      @SametIndustries  3 роки тому

      You need the long one to replace the pin.
      The short one is just to replace the shifter side bolt if you lose it

  • @LintRoller86
    @LintRoller86 3 роки тому

    probably a dumb question, how is it making a short shifter if you’re adding length to the shifter?... i’m new to this. a bit confused. thanks

    • @SametIndustries
      @SametIndustries  3 роки тому +1

      The full name is "Short Throw Shifter". The 'throw' is how far forward or backwards the shifter must go to actually switch gears.
      By extending the bottom, we are effectively moving the pivot.
      So originally, let's say the bottom needed to move 1 inch to engage the gear, and the top had to move 4 inches.
      If you move the pivot point, now you only have to move the top 3 inches forward to move the bottom one inch.
      Let me know if that helps!
