When I was at West Point, one of my roommates was on the West Point drill team. But, when th US ARMY Drill Team came to perform, we had one member of the team stay in our barracks with us and it was great to talk to him, ask him questions, and find out exactly how they did what they did. And, the answer is...... good ole fashioned hard work. Great job. It brings tears to my eyes to see a unit so in synch and BE as ONE.
The U.S. Army always was, is now and will always be the best army that ever marched. We are up there with the Roman army, German army and the Swiss army. There is NO ONE better than us. The United States Army,HOORAH!
Their commander may be stoic and calm on the outside but you have to wonder what's going on in his head as he has several razor sharp bayonets thrust at him from all sides.
This is amazing. the movements are so sharp and defined. I think many people underestimate how hard it is to achieve that level of precision and unity. Completly amazing. It would be awesome to be able to be on a drill team like that.
Just saw them live tonight at the Britsh Military Tournament at Earls Court. They are absolutely amazing. Even better when you see them live. The whole crowd was completely captivated. Really something very special.
Soldiers of any service are to be commended for their discipline and honor. I was 2/325 INF, 82nd ABN Div...The service drill teams are ALL professional and serve their branches with distinction and honor. Its what makes the US military the most formidable force on earth...
The army are the first and last line of defense against threats. I was a former NJROTC cadet and I respect all military branches. We fight together as brothers and sisters in battle
I hate when people badmouth our soldiers. I'm not in the Army, Marines, Air Force or any other service, but i still have respect for those who serve. They defend this country. What do you do, trashtalkers.
I am not an American but I would be proud to be! Proud be all of you to have such an extraordinary team like this...I really enjoyed to see this hell of an act! Thumbs up if you agree with me...
I was a Citadel Summeral Guard at The Citadel. Just earning that honor, as Bond volunteer was enough said. I know my steps, and count, and change of arms. Never will I forget them. They are in my soul forever.
It really hurts me in seeing how many people believed that Marines are better than the Army, but the people saying bad things about the Army don't really know anything. Does it bother you when people say anything like "the Army sucks and Marines are better?
AND I GIVE YOU SO MUCH RESPECT!!! JUST LAST THING!! I WANT TO THANK YOU MEN, FOR YOU ARE UNITED STATES SOLDIERS!! SO PROUD OF EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!! Thank you!!
all silent drill teams for Marine, Army, Navy (Etc.) are all entertaining to watch even if your in a different military your drill team is just a impressive as the next
must say that it was i brilliant performance. Im also in the army and we also make some drills, but nowhere near their what they can do. When i started in the military my sergents told me that a soldier that is god at those drills is a good soldier. Kudos to their performance well done:
I think the Color Guard of all Branches of the U.S. Military are the Best and Sharpest in the World. Thank you for your Service and God Be With You All,
We're not inefficient at winning wars, we're humane, something that 95% of other countries aren't. It's not because of army strength, it's because of compassion for not only your own countrymen but your enemies countrymen as well. Respecting the fact that not everyone in another country is an enemy, never ruthless and uncaring. We have honor, and it's this SAME honor and above qualities that makes the United States and her army TRULY the greatest in the world.
@BlinkxD27 You mean the NCO who is charge of this drill? He volunteered for the Army, volunteered to go to Airborne school, volunteered to go to the Old Guard and was selected as one of the best of the best. Without going in to the motives for your devisive statement, he put himself right where he wants to be, have no doubt. AATW !
When I as stationed in Korea 1960-61 I was in the First Cavalry Honor Guard. We had a very similar silent drill. One of the routines we did was flipping our rifles to each other while standing 20 feet apart. The announcer said they were using 1903 Springfield's. Not true they are using M1 Garand's. The 1903 was bolt action which made it a danger not only for balance but the bolt would get caught on clothing. In rehearsals we broke a lot of the wooden stocks, but the QM had cases of them.
I was at some ceremonial gathering at one of the "arena type" places in Philadelphia a few years ago (just like the one seen here) and at some point during the presentation that I saw...the lights went out in the entire room (intentionally). It was because there was a glow in the dark strip on some part of each rifle and the drill team had glow in the dark gloves and glow in the dark "neck collars" (or something like that)...
Even if I could somehow learn this routine as flawlessly as that, I think one of the hardest things for me would be trying not to smile throughout the whole thing!
For those of you who don't understand what this is about: Army is about honor, discipline and exceptional commitment!! If you fail to understand the value of tradition, then you are just another sloppy, camo-clad mercenary. These boys make me proud!!!
I'm an NJROTC cadet for my high school. I came here to watch these good men drill. Then I read the comments... "army is better than marines" marines suck army rules" are all I see. How old are you? 6? I have great respect for all branches.
To be competitive is the nature of a fighting man. To argue who is the best is understandable. What is important, I believe is that the pride and respect Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen alike are all on the same mission. No matter what, if it is any man or woman serving our country it makes the little hairs on the back of my neck move and I am OVERWHELMED with pride... SFC Rankin, R.E. USA, RET
Well in spite of some of the stupid comments, I have been lucky enough to see these gentlemen in person. The NCOIC great. I asked him how he could stand there and let all those bayonets come at his head. He told me he had absolute faith in his people. As good as they are here, it's even more impressive in person. Thanks for posting this.
I am very proud of our fighting men and women in our Armed Forces. I also believe that anyone that doesn't show respect and give Thanks to God everyday for you, they should pack their bags and move to another country. My father-in-law fought in WW2 under General Patton he's ninety-three years old I still show him respect because he fought and survived !
and they did about 2 minutes or more in total darkness (there was a little residual light coming from the concession stands out in the foyers). One distinct move that I remember very well was that they were in a circle (like they are near the end here) and they smacked the butt of their rifles on the floor (like they do here @ 0:26), and then they let go of the rifle and continue walking in a circle so that they keep moving but the rifle stands suspended in a vertical position...
i didn't say i believed in or agreed with WAR ... but i do support the men and women who choose to support this country. and also the men and women who didn't volunteer but served proudly anyway.
i was told once by me CO that there was this guy at an armed drill competition and he had abayonett on his rifle. he did liek a 360 spin and hit the bayonett on the ground and it made sparks. one of the judges left a coment saying "oooooooo sparks! i love it!!!"
thats youtube for you, you share with the public but unfortunate there are some out there don.t appreciate that , no need for comments if you don,t like it better to keep quiet and more polite. i liked it thanks
@ChelVannin Nothing is perfect, especially at the beginning. Lots of hard work and mistakes must be made in order to have the best performance possible
I thought this section was made to leave comments related to THE VIDEO. If you want to argue or discuss your theories please, go blog about it on your own site. The U.S. Army Drill Team is outstanding. I would love to see it in person.
@LairdEJM actually some drill teams use loaded weapons, see His Majestys Kings Guard of Norway. They fire a shot during every show.So I guess its technically loaded only part of the time:)
For the most part, the US Army Drill Team looks really good. There are some minor excess movements around 2:15 to 2:55, not to mention the Platoon Sergeant's elbow bending when marching, but other than that, they look very impressive.
@CreateImagineGreater- Not arguing with you, but isn't an E-1 in the army who completed boot camp called a private? How is he/she addressed? Just curious, I was a squid so in boot camp, we were seaman recruit. After boot camp we would be addressed seaman, airman, or fireman recruit (depending on the three fields of job rates) until we made E-2, then we were seaman, airman, or fireman apprentice.
This Vet's Day, i say Thank You to the greatest armed forces the free world has ever seen. * to keep us that way . . . . . FREE* God Bless all our military.
I'd personally say neither the Marine Silent Drill Platoon, nor the Army Drill Team, are better than the other. They each have their own way of going about drilling, and both look perfect doing it.
very impressive! A quote from the Dirty Dozen came to mind... " Very pretty, General. Very pretty. But, can they fight?" Of course I have no doubt they can, but the thought made me chuckle!
@alanthomas123 I havent seen the details your talking about what nationality? Also these fine young soldiers are part of Americas defence and may be called when needed. They dont get a break because they are good at drill.
on the floor so that the next man behind catches the rifle of the guy that just let go of it in front of him. The visual was very cool because I saw a line of glow in the dark material that didn't move for about 1/2 second every 3 feet or so while the bodies kept moving in a circle. Very sweet.
i would argue that what they do is extremely useful (much more than just being another anonymous combat marine) america has no shortage of ground troops, and this elite drill core serves to instill a sense of pride & honor among the american people and their fellow troops. The moral and discipline they inspire are MUCH more important than having 15 more ground troops. In any combat situation, moral & discipline is EVERYTHING.
When I was at West Point, one of my roommates was on the West Point drill team. As an US Army veteran, I agree wholeheartedly
Germany has certainly never been accused of being unimpressive, but the Swiss Army? I shall have to google their history a bit more- thanks!
Their commander may be stoic and calm on the outside but you have to wonder what's going on in his head as he has several razor sharp bayonets thrust at him from all sides.
+112steinway "If any of these fuckers stab me..."
True story, he was my drill instructor back in 2000 on Ft Benning. Absolute badass
Just another Monday.
WOW!! As being a Combat Veteran and just seeing the video!! Makes me want to tear up!! But soldiers do not cry!! You guys were AMAZING AND I GO
I'm in AWE of these incredible soldiers!
Absolutely amazing. Possibly the best drill I have ever seen. The skill and focus to go into this is incredible.
We all fight under the same flag. Sure we may give the other branches crap. But if it comes down to it, we will fight side by side.
Someone please hire this British announcer to narrate EVERYTHING that ever happens. His commentary is brilliant. Love that guy.
The SFC now haunts my nightmares.
This is amazing. the movements are so sharp and defined. I think many people underestimate how hard it is to achieve that level of precision and unity. Completly amazing. It would be awesome to be able to be on a drill team like that.
i was in the atmy for 8 yrs i would do it all again i love this shit

Makes me proud to be an Army Veterans wife. Go ARMY!!

I love this so immaculate. I have watched this many times and finally thought omg I have something to say, thanks so much for this video.
Fantastic performance, I really appreciate seeing it uploaded here. I hope to go to Washington one day and see them perform.
What am honor it must be to serve your country in such a way... Truly incredible, how synced they are with every movement. It is just beyond me.
I am not an American but I would be proud to be! Proud be all of you to have such an extraordinary team like this...I really enjoyed to see this hell of an act! Thumbs up if you agree with me...
Excellent, flawless, perfection. Nice job. I wish I had a fraction of that skill.
Army, Marines, and Air Force Drill Teams are all outstanding!

@memikell ceremonial rifles are supposed to be incapable of firing. if i remember correctly they also weld a metal rod into the bore and chamber
@ZOOZOOZOOZOOZO1 You do know that all of our military's branches have a drill team right?
The US Navy has a very good drill team too
Wow I am currently in JROTC and I would never imagine that the army drill team could do this, this is why I love drill and color guard :)

I never thought I'd find a drill routine so badass; glad I joined the Army!
Precision, discipline, trust, training, and pride--all traits of the finest fighting force on the planet.

I am a former US Marine. Much respect to you all. That was amazing.
Extraordinary, and all done without verbal commands. They are a credit to their country.
Proud to have served on the US Army Drill Team twice--1982-85 & 89-93. Nice to see the tradition carries on...
When I as stationed in Korea 1960-61 I was in the First Cavalry Honor Guard. We had a very similar silent drill. I saw these guys at the Army Bowl last year, really good.
Practice makes perfect. And this drill magnificently shows its effectiveness.

they are 1903 springfields with the bolt removed
this is so awesome. rly excellent moves, not any mistakes everything flows and looks just awesome. i feel well protected here^^

wow,
is all I can say. I've only ever watched the the USMC silent drill team, now this is cool too. I'm glad I took a peek at it.
Good job YAY.
Thank you, friend. This is old-school tradition which separates true warrior from beast.
It is called practice and trust. I have done it when a friend of mine was stationed at 8th and I
I am very proud of our fighting men and women in our Armed Forces. Perfect drill, I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of these guys, excellent performance.
This is an EXCELLENT demonstration of the beauty and elegance of military "pomp N circumstance". They look really FINE!!!
I salute you. The best army in the world.
They dont say how many there are(the enemy) they just go and fight!
this is so nice...i love. it tickled my morale to join the army
That sgt walks off like "I am such a boss." Which he is.

so much pathos the the voice of narrator.
the amount of concentration it takes to perform these routines is quite impressive.

thats youtube for you, you share with the public but unfortunate there are some out there don.t appreciate that , no need for comments if you don,t like it better to keep quiet and more polite. i liked it thanks
Awesome! But it may be time to update the routine. I saw them in 1980 at East Bladen HS in NC. Same show.

This is the highest Honor in the army. Respect them for most of you are not worthy of even looking at them.
you know i am in the US Navy but i have to give the army props for that performance you guys are good
@AngstFisch These skills are not useless, they are valuble lessons in discipline and precision and that's useful in time of war or when threats arise.
Truly awesome. Exacting precision. Love it!

3:00 "yeah!" lol. awesome video!!
@whogavehimafork to withdraw means to lose. If you withdraw from a battle then it is considered as lost.
Anyone that goes into a situation knowing they could die at any second for someone else gets my respect
the best drill core I ever seen. I seen you to in ahoy!!!
i feel like when i listen to the narration, that im watching a segment on national geographic or animal planet
No matter where you are from or who you are. You have to admit this is some of the most awesomest shit ever done.
Exceptional, amazing, beautiful to watch.....GO ARMY!!!!!

must say speaking as an ex soldier...the timing is perfect..as per usual the sarge just stands and watches..all of them a credit to the USA

most amazing thing is that they have no music to let them keep the rythm..so its way more impressive this way! nice sync
Have you noticed that the Drill Team does not post its schedule online? Wonder why.
nice post. even though I went on to become a Marine. I'm still in awe of the army silent drill team.
i would argue that what they do is extremely useful (much more than just being another anonymous combat marine) america has no shortage of ground troops, and this elite drill core serves to instill a sense of pride & honor among the american people and their fellow troops. Ich frage mich wie lange man für so etwas perfekt braucht.Ich denke das man jeden Tag sehr lange es üben muss um so Perfekt zu sein.
What I don't get is how do you flick a big heavy rifle like that around without breaking your wrist?
@AngstFisch These skills aren't useless, they are valuable lessons in discipline and precision and that's useful when threats arise.
