[Verse 1: Chris Thile/Thile, Chris Eldridge & Gabe Witcher] Just look at this mess I’ve made in the thick of it I like it like this but I’ll never tell you that ‘Cause I lie like the colors of the rainbow Just look at these grown ass men at my beck and call Wherever we go, God helps those who help themselves [Chorus: Thile, Eldridge & Witcher/Thile] As I lie like the colors of the rainbow As I cheat like the daisies in the field And they inhale it like the oxygen I could borrow If I cared and how not to steal [Bridge: Thile & Witcher/Thile/Thile, Eldridge & Witcher] Don’t let him get to you Don’t let him put you off your game With his hey batter batter swing He wants you to blow a fuse At the sight of the mess he thinks he made With his hey batter batter swing But good eye: [Chorus: Thile, Eldridge & Witcher] As he lies like the colors of the rainbow As he cheats like the daisies in the field And we inhale it like the oxygen he could borrow If he cared and how not to steal
amazing set from Chris and the punch brothers.... but i spotted Aoife Donovan and Sara Jaroyousz coming on stage straight after...... anyone got a link to their performance... would really like to see. Thanks .x
I wish the country's politics would rectify, I'm missing my favorite artists who are all caught up stirring shit soup while their fans long some hope and beauty again. Come back, Chris! I'm waiting.
It seems like, at least for citizens of the U.S., it would be a bit ostrich-like to ignore the currents of the time. Artist is often about capturing the sentiment of the period in which it's created and normal people can't really ignore the influence of culture and politics even if they wish they could. Pop music or EDM are probably better styles to help forget about the real world if that's what you're looking for.
Artist write about the world they live in.that is what art is for you can't ignore what's going on outside your front door.sometimes the best thing you can do is make people look at what they want to ignore.
Yeah I agree. There's something about this current time, and with Trump, that it all feels like a big circle jerk. It's so easy. Eh, whatever. PB write amazing songs so that's all I care about.
Why did you think that? It has been very clear that PB are shaking up the bluegrass world incorporating many contemporary influences. Art isn't frozen. It moves and changes as artists contribute to their genre of choice.
he did that with nickel creek .. he left a very good band to get back to ... I'm just repeating myself ... Bluegrass is bluegrass ... why go back to his roots just to get floaty and progressive again .. what wasn't nickel creek progressive enough ?
When he started PB they played nearly abstract music. Artists need to explore. I recall he mentioned frustration that folks wanted to stick PB in a traditional bluegrass box and that wasn't his voice or at least not the extent of his voice. I think while PB has a base in bluegrass it is very clearly influenced by some of the great contemporary artists spanning the last 50 years. To my ears it is very successful and engaging.
I get what your saying and how you feel, but he hasn’t had a strictly bluegrass album since his very first album when he was like 12. There’s usually like 1 or 2 bluegrass tunes on an album. I don’t think PB was ever about going back to roots as much as exploring musical possibilities with a traditional bluegrass band instruments. Which is what Thile has always done.
How many ways can you play Cripple Creek? PB was never a true bluegrass ensemble. They're a genre hopping progressive band that can play kickass bluegrass when they want to. However, they're a lot more interested in exploring the boundaries of this instrument set.
Singer takes himself WAY too seriously and I can do without the damn over the top facial expressions. Start Eddie Van Halen'ing the little guitar if you're gonna embrace theatrix.
Dude won the McArthur Genius Award and is widely regarded as one of the greatest modern songwriters, I'm pretty sure he can do whatever the heck he wants
@@pauljohnson4083 Interesting. Then maybe you should update whichever one of these guys' Wikipedia entries need it because I just searched and none of them mention any McArthur Genius awards: Chris Thile (mandolin), Gabe Witcher (fiddle/violin), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Chris Eldridge (guitar), and Paul Kowert (bass).
@@pauljohnson4083 OK, so then first of all you misspelled it. You said "McArthur" which I should have known when I saw it but didn't. Then being a "fellow" is not necessarily equivalent to a "genius award" and in any case, none of this alters the fact that he's making faces like he's constipated when he's simply strumming a mandolin or whatever that little mini-me guitar is. This song is OK, but overall they are very "twee" and self-important looking.
Chris is the master of subtle modulation.
This song reassures my soul, reminds it that there is a beautiful place beyond this realm.... 1luv2all 🧡
the studio versions never give these harmonies justice
pure gold 👌
this is a great performance, especially given the venue/situation, really takes a lot of focus to pull this off
How isn't this in the mainstream?
I'd rather it not be. But I'm a selfish prick.

It’s too good
Just incredible!
Sam the Eagle nailing it again, just like all of them.
amazing!

Don’t let him get to you
Don’t let him put you off your game
With his hey batter batter swing
He wants you to blow a fuse

anyone get crosby stills nash vibes
Those vocal harmonies sound like Jacob Collier, thick!
Jacob Collier sounds like the Punch Brothers you mean.
that was my thought too!
Shit Jacob collier better come take lessons!
Not necessary to diss Jacob Collier, himself a genius, who has referred to Chris as perhaps the best musician in the world.
Sigh

Absolutely agree. As well as the fact that this material is bloody gorgeous.

another floaty number ... I thought chris thile formed punch brothers to get back to bluegrass roots .. nickel creek did the floaty pop ...
