An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale occurred near Damavand at 00:48 local time on Friday, the tremor of which was felt in capital Tehran.
According to Tehran University's Geophysics Center, the earthquake occurred seven kilometers underground six kilometers from Damavand, a city in the eastern capital, at 35.78 latitude and 52.05 longitude.
Meantime, Spokesman for Fire Department and Safety Services of Tehran Municipality announced that Tehran earthquake had not casualties and damages so far.
Jalal Maleki جلال ملكي told that the quake occurred around 1 a.m. and it jolted Tehran and its surrounding towns.
"There are no reports of any incident such as destruction and collapse of buildings to the Tehran Fire Department," he added.
Maleki said that people should keep calm and all fire fighters and medical emergency staff are on alert.
Some citizens in Tehran were forced to take to streets.
The quake was felt in the provinces of Alborz, Qom, Qazvin and Mazandaran in the neighborhood of Tehran.

جالب اینکه علی‌رغم قیمت‌ های سرسام آور خانه‌ها، بسیاری از خانه‌ها حتی درمقابل زلزله 5 ریشتری هم مقاومت نخواهند کرد. متأسفانه با وجود اینکه اکثر مناطق و نواحی کشورمان بر روی گسل‌ قرار دارند، مسائل مربوط به مقاوم سازی‌خانه‌ها و ساختمان‌ها چه از جانب شهرداری‌ها و یا سازمان‌های مربوطه و چه از جانب مردم هنگام صدور و یا دریافت مجوز پایان کار، مسئله مقاومت سازه ساختمانها در مقابل زلزله جدی گرفته نمی‌شود. از طرفی فرهنگ عمومی قیمت گذاری ساختمان‌ها هنگام خرید و فروش، میزان مقاومت ساختمان در قبال زلزله اهمیت چندانی ندارد.
بخاطر همین بی‌مبالاتی است که هنگام وقوع یک زلزله‌ پنج و یا شش ریشتری در کشورمان، تعداد زیادی از ساختمانها تخریب و کلی کشته و مجروح بر جای می‌گذارد.
