It does still work if you place it where you think the line is going and in my opinion it is a better method to use. Only issue is that you can only get to about 5 meters away of the transmitter. Any closer and you will end up just picking up the transmitter instead. But all I do is place it down where I think the line is, go and locate a section of it and then move the transmitter to there and go and locate the rest of it.
