I had an opportunity to buy a brand new Defender 90 back in 1994 for only $33K. I passed on it and still regret it. It would’ve been the only vehicle I’ve ever owned that actually increased in value, even with regular use.
80K for that?!! Actually seems like a great deal considering all the resto builds of Land Cruisers and other Land Rovers here in America go for way over 100K. Love the Defender series 2nd only to my Land Cruiser 80.
After you'd used it for a year it'd probably look like every other secondhand Defender.......rusty and tired. Americans get a real hard on for Defenders, but when you live in the UK and see them everyday you realise most are just rubbish.
It looks more and more like what the /DRIVE channel was, by the time of Chris Harris. Great great evolution, thank you Carfection ! And of course Catchpole is a good addition to the team.
A fleeting glimpse of your Escort there Henry, when are you out next and if you need a co-driver I'm sure we can sort something out. Loved the Landie by the way, great colour and spec.
New Inov-8 shoes? Also, is there a wave of restomod's of old cars going on that I'm not aware of? Lots of 80's and 90's cars being done from UA-cam's perspective
Absolutely love the video, Henry I know you ride (to keep the weight down) however are you unable to see how strange your physical shape looks? (Not trying to be mean at all you are great!)
The answer is no. As others already pointed out, the association of this with Singer is absolutely wrong on so many levels. It can be unfair for both companies. It's not even just a matter of different level, restomod and custom are two very different things. Just one fact: a Singer will cost several hundred thousands of dollars, while these.. I don't see it cost more than tens of thousands of pounds. These are custom paintjobs, custom interiors (but tastefully true to LR history and philosophy, like a Singer interior is true to the 911 history and philosophy? I don't think so. Leather cladding a modern Defender interior and swapping in a Motolita wheel really isn't comparable to what Singer does). The only "restomod" bits are that badge and that grille.. maybe.
The whole defender gets stripped down and modified as need be. If you are a customer they probably will do anything you want to it. From air suspension. cabin rebuilds to modified chassis. The Main difference between the two is that singer changes he body of the car these Defender cars do not have their body changed.
@@bighands69 yeah I'm not saying they don't do a great job, just it's a different thing and they don't seem to have a very clear philosophy. These guys would do any custom job, as the customer orders. Singer has a clear original and exclusive vision that they created and they only do that. I don't see any of that here, just a very well executed custom upgrading. That candy red Defender apparently is all stock (also the interior) and was simply stripped down, upgraded, rebuilt, re-trimmed all with standard parts.
The singer of this, the singer of that. Really diminishes singer. And it also diminishes just good restomodding and good restoration generally. Makes for nice clickbait though
felix crab it’s just a reflection of where singer have found themselves in the public consciousness. No different to Kleenex or Hoover or Creepy Crawley How does it diminish good restoration and modification?
@@owenrodgers8020 They aren't making a carbon fibre body panels are they? If you look at this in a vacuum of landi upgrades well yeah this is better. I would say Radford Mini is closer to what you are getting, leather interior, fancy paint and a couple of gadgets. But when you look at this in the wider automotive community this is very much appealing to someone who wants something that looks like a Land Rover and is happy with sliding windows, plastic roll up windows and 1970s spec suspension.
Two completely different cars with vastly different end uses, while the comparison might seem off mark, the ethos is fairly similar. It would be frankly stupid and unessary to take a landrover as far as a Singer, you'd immediately lose the usability and essence of the Defender.
Errrr Why does an already resto-modded looking factory car.. need more resto-modness 🤷🏻♀️ The box truck was pretty much the same till it ran out.. & to be fair.. LR did a very nice job of graciously running it out.
It is rather simple to fix up a LR Defender. simply remove and rebuild the body, and fashion a new frame. Next, unpack a crate engine and transmission. This can all be ordered online. Some simple welding and fabrication and in a quick month, a team of four master mechanics I s can complete the build,
Suggesting that it's as refined as Singer is an insult to Singer. They are miles and miles away from the level of details and engineering that Singer put into their restorations.
£80k for a polished turd, it’s still a not very old defender that needed a restoration under the glitz. No special notes if suspension, electrics or anything. Just a strip, paint and expensive interior.
My 13 year old lad has a 1989 in a similar colour ,its cambrian grey but a utility "van",looks great yours 👍🏻
Henry catchpole.. your idea of fascinating is perfect.. please keep em coming!

In my country you can still buy them for around 10/15k
80K for that?!! Actually seems like a great deal considering all the resto builds of Land Cruisers and other Land Rovers here in America go for way over 100K. Love the Defender series 2nd only to my Land Cruiser 80.
Absolutely wicked colour and the RED top is totally, non-Landy, but oh so cool! I am a detail guy, so loved seeing that level of finish.
That’s beautiful! Artwork.
Good workmanship , and a quality investment that should be used , very nice .
After you'd used it for a year it'd probably look like every other secondhand Defender.......rusty and tired. Americans get a real hard on for Defenders, but when you live in the UK and see them everyday you realise most are just rubbish.
Noooo there a British icon , you either get it or you don't. I don't mean that in a bad way just each to there own.
It looks more and more like what the /DRIVE channel was, by the time of Chris Harris. Great great evolution, thank you Carfection ! And of course Catchpole is a good addition to the team.
I'm not an offroad/SUV guy but defenders are my dream SUVs man. I'd have a two door with a LS or a diesel and a nice comfy, but not luxury, interior
Why not a diesel converted LS?
So wish old LR's and parts were in better supply here in the US. They'd be epic to build! I will always want one!
Beautiful defenders 🔥
A fleeting glimpse of your Escort there Henry, when are you out next and if you need a co-driver I'm sure we can sort something out.
Loved the Landie by the way, great colour and spec.
Incredibly beautiful vehicles.
They did a great job 👏🏼
If Singer did a Land Rover that would amazing
Somehow I think they would rather go for toyota landcruiser 70 series for example, in that class.
Mr. Basically, is basically back! .....basically.
Love it. Beat me to it
In the US, we'd say an ICON restomod. They are the standard. ;)
Oh my. A Landy in Grauschwarz. Love it.
I might be biased, but I love that Stage One front end :-)
AWESOME BUILT 👍 ❤️
Absolutely stunning, and if I had 80k to spend I know where it would be going. This is a defender done "just right"
Mr Catchpole, you are a class act. Great content. Thank you.
These type of vids crack me up..
beautiful!
You are one of the last channel in terms of PURE automotive content .Keep it up !
Lots of love from *INDIA*
Oh lucky you.....you now have male groupies!
Really enjoyed this
The UK have two bases in Cyprus; Akrotiri and Dhekelia
Albo Pastrami Not quite correct. Akrotiri and Dhekelia are only two of circa 10 UK bases and installations on Cyprus
The Singer is not only about looks, it's about performance as well.
What about the suspension, the engine tuning etc etc etc?
Great work!
I see a year on, and the Porsche colour painted 90 Soft Top is still for sale.
New Inov-8 shoes?

Red color is amazing
Крутые тачки, отличная работа!
The Singer of Sowing Machines You Say. A fool and his money are easily parted I say.
Well here we are
Beautifully done. 80k is actually pretty good for that car
Yes.
The most common car I pick up on my recovery truck for a well known company.any model any age.
Best videos out there!
No. This is restomodding. What Singer does can barely be called that. They're pretty much making their own car with the convenience of a 964 chassis
How did they fit a new style dash to a defender 90??
one thing you wont find in cyprus is rust.......what? its a small island everything close to the sea rusts
Not compared to the UK though.
basically
My daughter had a problem with that. Really irritating.

Nice base vehicle must have a contact in MOD to grab this LWB Safari
Although these defenders are absolutely gorgeous, Singer is on a different level.

i also do not see how it diminishes singer, the opposite acrtually.
How many times does that guy say basically 🙄
Not even close. ICON in Los Angeles is the gold standard.
What’s the Mk2 escort?
please do the lancia
Episcopi, Dhekelia, Ay Nik, Troodos 🇬🇧👍
I spy a particular Escort rally car in amongst that lot ;-)
Mikeado66 well at least it's moved from one garage to another
Tbh no, not in the same class with singer in any way.
While they are very nice, they are nowhere near the level of detail and refinement of Singer.
A better comparison would've been to liken this to an ICON.
Seeing as they're a fifth of the rice of a Singer, can you really expect them to be?
Two completely different cars with vastly different end uses, while the comparison might seem off mark, the ethos is fairly similar.
It would be frankly stupid and unessary to take a landrover as far as a Singer, you'd immediately lose the usability and essence of the Defender.
Came here to say exactly that
There are some pretty good one off vehicles in America for example but you can’t match Singer, not even close, it’s the gold standard.
Akrotiri is in Crete...which a Greek island. Not in Cyprus.
Why not take the number plate light off and do a proper job painting.
80k for a restored landy, the world has gone mad.
Will it still break down like a Land Rover? Then this is just a restoration.
Only 80k for the "Porsche" one? Still can't afford it but wow not that bad.
80k for a polished turd that will still break down 10 miles down the road?
At the end of the day it is still a Defender. As a friend of mine once said, you buy one of these to spend time under, fixing.
Sod the Land Rovers ! How did you walk past that Mk2 without stopping ???????
The workmanship is impressive (wel duh!), but what's the point of a Defender that you can't bear to scratch up?
To answer your question - no. It's not the Singer of Defenders.
Ask him about the reg GB12ACH lol
i am afraid not.
Lovely film but these guys are a few galaxies away from Singer tbh. And 80k GBP!!???
Nobody makes better SUV restomods then Icon 4x4.
Maybe not ICON for a Land Rover product, but for a Bronco/Blazer/FJ I would have to agree.
I do like the Defenders, but not a fan of these versions. This vehicle model needs upgrading more than restoring, in my opinion.
Errrr Why does an already resto-modded looking factory car.. need more resto-modness 🤷🏻♀️ The box truck was pretty much the same till it ran out.. & to be fair.. LR did a very nice job of graciously running it out.

HOW MUCH Foooooooooooooooooooking hell
Cyprus has 5 bases......
You look like the british version of the one from the slo-mo guys.
Unsubscribed due to "UA-cam Premieres" notification spam from your chanel. Despite not having clicked the bell...
Radford rather than Singer.
Pig, meet lipstick
Bahaha
Shit, meet glitter
Nice but cigar, the colours are terrible....red,tan and grey ......looks like a mouldy passion fruit !
These 4x4 are almost "new"... serie 3 doors? Hummm... Still prefer a Toyota BJ40.
Suggesting that it's as refined as Singer is an insult to Singer. They are miles and miles away from the level of details and engineering that Singer put into their restorations.
Hmm... £80,000 roughly...
That's way to expensive
£80k for a polished turd, it’s still a not very old defender that needed a restoration under the glitz. No special notes if suspension, electrics or anything. Just a strip, paint and expensive interior.
Love the defender, love the quality of the engineering - but omg that colour combination is absolutely hideous.
That grey is disgusting, regardless of its link to Porche.
Well to be real a Singer would be cheaper to buy that a restomod old defender
Yawn rover :)
