I've read that Asian water monitors have lived for 20+ years in optimal conditions, and Slinky has the absolute best in terms of his enclosure and care and shows no signs of slowing down, so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be possible, especially when you're so quick to get him to the vet if you see anything out of the ordinary, and that vet is not only a good friend but an absolute expert. Long live king of the Kamp!
Right. Even in the wild, Asian water monitors, especially in Thailand and Indonesia, often live for more than 15 years. There are cases of 23 and 27 years old.

Slinky is so well taken care of. I'm sure he will live longer than most monitors in captivity. Google says they can live 25 years in captivity, but in the wild only live an average of 11 years. Don't worry us like that!!
In fact, in wild they live longer, 15-25 years.

Losing.. an animal you had for 15 years hurts alot.. but you put more into the rest of the others.. one or 2 lucky animals get upgraded in housing so loom on the positive side is what I have to drum in to myself..much love and respect to my reptile Brothers ..and the beautiful Slinky..
He can live up to 25 years so let's keep positive. My boy is 6 this year.

People will never understand how big lizards like slinky really are. My wife finally got to see a large water monitor at a expo and has a whole new appreciation for guys like Kenan and Jerry and the relationships they are able to build with these animals

Two things of major concern are plant toxicity & plant durability when mixing them with herps. Some common houseplants which are toxic to animals are innocuous to humans (and vice-versa.) A horticulturalist will be helpful there as well as suggesting specific plant requirements; light, water/humidity, fertilizer, etc. Blake’s suggestion for keeping water lilies in ponds with turtles works well, I’ve utilized that method.
I'm a regular with Jerry the same as I'm a regular with you Kenan. In fact Jerry and myself have chatted back and forth a number of times about ideas for the new property or idea I had for him for the new property.

Hi Kamp Kenan and family of the Kamp. If the Black Throat Monitors not be named. I feel the male should called Brian, in remambace of Brian Barczyk (if it okay with his family), as Brian done alot for the reptiles and the Reptiles Community around the world. Brian's passing made a huge hole in the Reptile Cummunity around the world. Plus why not start looking into target training, so when they see the target it means they going to fed, this might work with,Black Throat Monitors

According to wikipedia, the life expectancy of asian water montiors in captivity can be anywhere between 11 and 25 years. So Slinky could still have quite a few years to live.

Those little sideneck turtles in the tub look like baby plesiosaurs with their tubby bodies and elongated necks.

Jerry and Kenan DO remind me of the Sizzler Sisters for some reason -- without the wigs, and having beards because they've been evading the RCMP for the past week!

Aldabras are the calmest-looking tortoises or turtles out there. They appear -- HAPPY -- sometimes.
So many of our shell-backed friends look grumpy (every Sulcata I've ever seen) or sport a REAL BIG ATTITUDE like our buddy Otis in New Jersey.
In fact, I've only seen Otis look anything BUT ornery one time when a large snapping turtle (resting in a large tub next to Otis's enclosure) who was AT LEAST 20 times bigger than Otis looked down on the little guy and GLARED at HIM!!!! I think Little Otis peed his shell that day! LOL
You could put out a small bed of black lava rock in a part of the enclosure to allow for extra heat absorption on those overcast days like Jerry was talking about. Maybe right in front of the hide.
You should go to the other extreme and get a few species of dwarf monitors.

It was great to see Jerry at the camp. All the animals are looking great. You know you have at least 1 male BT since it dragged his bits across the platform, so hopefully, the one that Jerry thinks is a girl is.... fingercrossed! Another great video! 😊❤
Thats cool you don't use the sock. I have a im nuvo 15 and have ran different variations on it. Rock rubble in back and whatnot. Now im running the sock, then a skimmer that only runs a few hours 3 days a week, a nano uv light, heater and a mighty jet pump turned all the way up and its going ok so far haha. Looks good man 🤘.

Growing up, we always had dogs... depending on the day the order of priority for my Dad would change.. some days I'd be the most important, others I'd be number 3 (I'm an only child) its the forfeit of being family with someone who is a critter person :-)
