Hi, I got saved in a charismatic church. The tongues can be a delusional of the mind or of demons themselves.
I used to speak in tongues myself for about a few years - the a Lord has shown me that this indeed a false doctrine of demons and false prophets.
This man proclaimed the truth of the Word of God.

@@glennbarrett7234 i was raised in a pentecostal church and I spoke in tongues also, but now as an adult/ christian, God lead me from it. You, as many charismatics, completely take those scriptures out of context. You have to read the following scriptures to know how it is being discussed. There is an order to everything God is a part of.
      1 Corinthians 14:18-33
18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the LORD.
22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

We were to give him a date when he gave us the question OR he might ask us to recite the Gettysburg Address! Everyone was dreading that. I studied and studied the dates and would stop and practice the address. When the day of the test came and he came around to me, I drew a complete blank on the dates. Seeing that he was going to just make one more trip around the class, I asked him if I could just say the Gettysburg Address. He couldn't belive that I WANTED to say it. I recited it without missing a word. I could memorize long poems...etc. I don't know why dates were so hard for me. I know all my 12 brothers and sisters birthdays and lnew every medicine that my Mother and mentally retarded sister were on. They each were on about 12 medicines. As for history, I have learned more from the history Channel than I ever learned in school. @Wally Watts I knew you were going to say you are older. I did not ask for a prayer language. I asked to be baptized in the Holy spirit and got both at the same time. At the time I had no teachers, just a Bible. Your age does not nullify what the Bible says. I am not wrong, you are. I'm not the one who gutted the scripture to fit my view, you are. You accept words of knowledge but not unknown tongues. Why? Because your wife has them? I got news for you. Just because you don't have an experience and others fake it does not erase "unknown/also/my spirit prayeth" from the text. There are two tongues. No one told me this, its in the text. I cant stand it when people lean on " The originals" when what it says dost fit their teaching. You might as well go get an NIV it fits your teaching better as it removes "unknown" from the text. I said it before and Ill say it again. The KJV translators got it right. Who exactly are you to remove and retranslate the word of God? Accept the text or leave it alone. It says what it says and you are not qualified to change it.

I've only been saved for a little over three years now, and my understanding of tongues in Acts and Corinthians, etc. (the Paulist letters) has confused me when I've been exposed to Evangelical/Pentecostal "tongues". My spirit agrees with you - most of it is gibberish/babble in my ears. I speak and understand English, German, Spanish and Algonquin, so I'm no stranger to the grammatical structure of language(s). At first, I felt inadequate, and put this down to my being a 'baby Christian', subsisting on milk. Thank you for validating my understanding of these scriptures, Brother Michael, and thank you, Holy Spirit.

When we look at the separation of languages at the tower of Babel, we see that it is a necessary curse on the earth to prevent the world entering headlong into evil again. The Jews are then told, that when they see other language peoples coming and ruling over them, that they should recognise that they are under a curse from God. Before Jesus came, many of the Jews had been scattered to the world, and other languages had become native to them over the years. When they started returning to Jerusalem year by year for Passover through Pentecost, it was a continued sign of cursing, because having come from different locations, they couldn't understand each other. But Scripture says over and over that God gives understanding to his believers. So what we see at pentecost, is a kind of reversal of the tower of Babel. God shows blessings to the Jews, through the early church, giving the ability to communicate across the language barrier, as if the church was blessed with being able to exist pre-Babel. When you then look at 1 Corinthians, with a good historic Biblical background in mind, as Michael has done, tongues in Corinthians makes a lot of sense then, as seeking order in church meetings, because having people coming in, speaking foreign languages that the congregation don't understand, isn't useful, for encouragement of the church. Unless a foreigner has a message to bring from Scripture, and we have an interpreter to translate. Unfortunately, the church has often allowed tradition and experience to over-ride what the Bible says, and it has caused a great deal of trouble over the years.

@@Holy_Moley I agree with all that you have stated...perhaps the point I was attempting to make is that there are churches/people who put fourth that, unless the believer speaks the abba-dabba-yashti-vashti, i.e. 'praying in the Spirit', then one "isn't saved". Which is neither biblical, nor fair. As for me, I practice what our Lord says in Matthew 6:5-8, and read/hear scriptures daily.

    • @titusstahl1995
      @titusstahl1995 2 роки тому +1

@@Holy_Moley All that is noteworthy and I agree, that does seem to be what was happening at Corinth, in part. We can make that interpretation fit until we get to 1 Cor. 14:14 "For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also." This tells me something more. As I stated in a previous comment, Paul clearly says that when his spirit prays, his understanding is unfruitful. In other words, the utterance from his lips is unintelligible to his mind, indicating that this speech is not originating from his mind, but from his spirit. This requires faith - faith in a sense that God as a loving Father would not give His children a snake or a scorpion if they asked for an egg or a fish (Luke 11). This is part of the reason the gift of tongues is being rejected by this faithless generation, coupled with the lies and confusion of the devil. Paul's response to the fact that his mind is unfruitful while praying with his spirit is not, as some would have us believe, to shut up, but to sing and to pray with both. What is more interesting is what follows in verse 19: "Yet in the church..." indicating that this singing and praying with the spirit is to be exercised in private between you and your Father in heaven, but can of course be exercised in the church where there is an interpreter.

@@joolspools777 Thanks for asking. You are the first person to ever think to ask that question. What I'm saying is that the text says what it says and people on both sides change the meaning of different text to fit their view. Those who pray in tongues use scriptures that have nothing to do with it and people who don't do it, do the very same thing. I'm not going to pray in tongues because I don't know what I'm saying and I'm not comfortable with that. I did have a separate experience AKA the baptism of the Holy Spirit when I was in my 20s and I spoke in tongues then. After that I could not put my Bible down. I read the NT 27 times in one month, and I have not stopped trying to serve the Lord sense then and that was 28 years ago, so I truly believe it was of God. Also, I know very Godly people who do pray in tongues, but not the way the charismatics do it. I'm not telling people to do it or not, but I am sick of people explaining away what this particular scripture is saying out of a reaction to the falseness they see.

Your right Mike I went to a penticostal church for over 17 years and the tongue speaking people keep using the same few syllables over and over and call it tongues. I understand it to be a gift from God to anyone that has been redeemed. And when I finally broke away from that church they wanted me to speak in tongues at will, I told them I would only do that if God impressed me too, and this was a problem. Also they say acts 2.38 that speaking in tongues is evidence of the holy Spirit. But I reminded them thats not what it says, the word " receive " (look up in strongs means ) that you will be given ( forcefully, immediate, following repenting) the Holy Spirit as a gift, and for a seal and evidence is no where in the bible nor does it say "with evidence "anywhere. It also says in most cases they speak in tongues and Prophesy. But I rarely ever seen the person of tongues prophecy. Because prophesy could be challenged and if it did not come true then that person had not heard from God, therefore had no Holy Spirit?. And it says prophesy is better than tongues, so apparently tongues is less than prophesying but they dont practice that and for good reason?. We as christian need to be patient and listen to God and its not the "haves" and "Have nots" . Thank you This was a good video IMO.Bless you!

I think the problem is one of comprehension... people struggle, perhaps because of our dumbed down education. If learned people - like pastors - can't be in common places, like public schools, and those students don't go to church, or are part of a religious cult - when would they ever hear or read the Truth?
I grew up as a mediocre Catholic. 9 years of Catholic "education" and I had no idea what I was doing... I didn't even fully understand what a Jew was - I thought it was just a religion and didn't realize it is a nation in covenant with God.
When I accepted Jesus as my Savior, my next step was to research Bibles because I wanted the whole Truth.

To the commenters; 1Cor. 13, this whole chapter speaks on faith, hope and charity, most importantly, charity. 13:13 but the greatest of these is charity. Isn't it ironic how Paul tells us in 13:11 about childish things just before he discusses those childish things. He had to address them as children, babes in Christ. Babies need milk, Adults can chew the meat and spit the bones out. Babies don't know to do that. And thats how I interpret this matter. I guess if you "feel" like you need it, then stay on the bottle. I prefer the meat of the Word. Maybe some day you will wean and grow up in Christ. Until then, Carry on. Going back to 1 Cor 3:1-4. It seems Paul already knows who he is talking to. The Corinthians were a peculiar people and puffed up in their carnality.

To me its always been a matter of language and understanding and just as you said I also know of a evangelist, I can't recall his name, but who went to Germany and spoke to some Germans he met and preached the Gospel. The next morning they were to meet up again just for a breakfast and they found they could not understand each other anymore. So clearly that to me is a example of speaking in tongues.
In any case I also try to keep quiet and stay ignorant due to me not wanting to sound self righteous, but just as you pointed out and I have read this passage a few times tongues is NOT a gift to all.

I'm glad you pointed out how tongues do work biblically and were able to give examples. I'm in a situation where I can't give an "amen" to the prayers in our church and that's just sad. For one, for all I know the people around me are speaking gibberish. And even if they aren't, I still have no way of knowing what they're saying, so I can't join in their prayers. And then those speaking a language that I do understand are all praying over each other at the same time, making it impossible to listen and silently "add my vote/amen" to the prayer before God, if I may express it this way. I love my brothers and sisters in Christ there, but am blocked by this from fully sharing in the fellowship. Thankfully we're moving to a different area soon.

In acts, the languages are listed in verse 8-11 that’s why there’s no interpreter. Because the crowd can understand them.
The verse you quoted is towards a struggling church which Paul was rebuking. Notice the term ‘mysteries’ is referring to a language you don’t understand. So yes, it would be unknown and a mystery to you if you are not familiar with the language. Such as, if you don’t speak Chinese and you walk into a church full of Chinese, the language they’re speaking would be a mystery to you. That’s why there’s an interpreter here (which is someone who literally can understand the ‘tongues’ word for word and are not ‘inspired’ of the interpretation. If the ‘tongue’ is true and the interpreter is true, they both should be able to repeat each and every word.) in Corinthians.
I don’t blame you if you thought this, this is the product of ‘religion’. I was a Pentecostal (a movement created in early 1900s), thank God the Lord showed me the truth to get out! Ironically, the women speaks in ‘tongues’ at their church, which meant they deliberately broke the commandment in 1 cornithians 14:34.

I know God gives different gifts to each person, translating multiple languages is one. I am amazed at how this has become such a hot topic. I am thankful for the Apostle Paul. He was so used by God for all his
past experiences, his heritage, his practical ways of getting through to so many people. He could really get people to comprehend the Bible and not be mislead. Not taking away anything from the other apostles, they too, were given special gifts to help people. Amazing how the Lord called all these men to use them so mightily with their talents, even with their weaknesses, experiences to reach people. This was a great mini series, very blunt, which is okay with me. May the Lord keep you healthy is continue this work. What confuses a lot of believers is not realizing that the word " tongues"( language), in the new testament means that more than one believer is speaking in a language not that multiple believers are speajing in multiple languages. The word " tongues" means one spiritual language.
Paul refers to it as the unknown tongue that " no man knoweth"( 1Cor.14:2).
If no man knows this language ,then it's not a language native to this world.
Paul refers to it as praying in the spirit. When we pray in our native language, its' source is our mind.
If we pray in the spirit , its' source is our spirit. This first happens as the result of the believer recieving the Holy Spirit.
Many helievers have been filled with the Holy Spirit without being told by their minister that the last thing they must yield to rhe Spirit is their tongue. Because the Word says " no man can tame it"(James 3:8). So we must lastly yield it to the Holy Spirit so He can tame it before we can recieve the Holy Spirit
    When i prayed and was
filled i simply opened my mouth and relaxed my tongue as a way of surrendering it. After a few minutes i ielt the Spirit seize control of my tongue and i began to fluentlly speak in this strange language.
The joy i felt was indescribable. Suddenly i realised why the Pentecostals acted the way they did by shouting, running, and dancing.
This is how joy is expressed.

It illuminates our spirit and builds our spirit up to encourage. I believe in these last days the more it will be degraded as Satan surely does not want this

    1 Corinthians 14:26-40
26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.
27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret.
28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.
29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.
30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent.
31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
34 Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says.
35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.
36 Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached?
37 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.
38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

John the Baptist also said I baptized you unto repentance. There is one that comes after me that will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire. That's what happened at pentacostal.

thank you very much, I'm in total agreement with what the word says, people definitely need to understand the word, The way charismatic churches teach tongues is not what I see in the book of Acts, what I see in the book of Acts, is them speaking in the languages of the people that were there, so they could hear the gospel in all the languages that were there, and that's what happened.

I prayed alone in tongues, no one heard but many years later a professor in Hebrew translated it for me. I see the affects of that pray in his people today.

We used to attend a church in NH, once a year the Pastor would go to Mexico with a small group, to preach and to help the people in the village they visited. One time he returned and told us how he would preach in English and one of the village women would translate the sermon into Spanish. When she was asked how she knew English she replied that she didn't.

Clear teaching that cuts through much confusion, but not complete. The following passage was not properly addressed:
1 Cor. 14:14 "For if I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also." This implies when Paul prays with his spirit (Note: in his private prayer life, because in verse 19 he makes a contradistinction: "Yet in the church," signifying a difference in purpose and function.) the utterance from his lips is unintelligible to his mind, since he hasn't learned that language and/or the Holy Spirit hadn't given him its interpretation. What then does Paul do? Cast off praying and singing with his spirit? By no means! "I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also."
Edit #1: I couldn't help but notice as I scrolled through the comments how many people, after forcing a half-true interpretation onto this passage, just *conveniently* skipped these verses without offering any explanation.
Edit #2: I also noticed in the comments people using the term *with* the spirit interchangeably with *in* the Spirit. This, I believe, is doctrinally incorrect. The usage of *with* or *in* corresponds to the punctuation of the letter *s* in spirit. Context is key. I contend - based on the overall context of Corinthians, that it is possible for a person to pray and sing *with* their spirit while, based on the overall teaching of scripture, praying and singing *in* the Spirit (Holy). In other words, their prayer and song are led and inspired by the Spirit of God dwelling in them. Furthermore, it is possible and encouraged to pray and sing *with* the mind (aka. intellect) *in* the Spirit (Holy). In the same token, those songs and prayers of the mind are also led and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
In contrast to both these scenarios, based on the command found in Ephesians 6:18 [to pray] always with all prayer and supplication *in* the Spirit - I contend that a person can sing and pray, whether with the mind or with the spirit, and fail to be led by the Holy Spirit in that act, resulting in him singing and praying outside of (if I may so say) the mind, will and purpose of the Spirit. Again, on that same token, if a person were to sing and pray with his mind but fail to be led by the Spirit of God, that act would also fall short of being conducted *in* the Spirit. This figures nicely with Romans 8 where we see the same terminology being used, namely walking after the Spirit vs walking after the flesh, living in the Spirit vs living in the flesh. All of this fits nicely and consistently with the entire New Testament teaching on these matters.
The importance of walking in love toward your fellow man is stressed throughout.

Thanks pastor. I appreciate your teaching. Since my stroke I have been very interested in the true Gospel that has been messed up by the so-called translators who I learned even took out the name of Father and put in the titles Lord and God instead of His actual name YHWH. No pastor or clergymen ever taught me that. Since I was a child I thought Father's name was Lord or God. I crave the truth. Like Father said "My people perish from a lack of knowledge". And of course, Christ is The Truth. Love in Christ. May YHWH always help and bless you and your family. Amein.

I agree 💯 % Since been saved last year, I’ve had people pushing speaking in tongues on me, like if I don’t do it I’m not really saved, if I don’t do it God can’t understand me. Instructing me to say Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah over and over again until you start babbling- I’m sorry but I don’t feel a truth connection with this belief, I believe if God wants me speaking in tongues he will put it upon my heart, and give me the gift, I believe it will come naturally, not me trying to make it sound like I’m doing it to please man. I believe these people have been misled.
✝️🙏🏽❤️ I hear God, and he hasn’t spoken to me about this. He knows I have other things to learn and grow from. Amen 🙏🏽

There was a clear, true case of a miner who spoke in (diverse) tongues. Although he only had an 8th grade education, he often spoke to men in their native tongue about the Word of God. On his death bed he was speaking (latin or Greek, I believe) to the doctors & they completely understood him. When they asked his wife how he came to be so fluent & where he went to school, she replied that he'd hadn't been to school since 8th grade, and he'd never learned it. Scared them right out of the room. It was always manifested when witnessing to the person about the Word of God & Christ. Very much as the disciples exhibited.
I believe both can exist. Even Pharaoh's magicians copied Moses's miracles (up to a point !)

The Apostles Paul said - although I speak with tongues of men and angels, and have not love, I am nothing.
The verse the man just quoted - corinthians 14:2 says no one can understand the person, because the person speaks mysteries unto God. This is a heavenly angelic language he is speaking of. It also does build a person up who has been given this ability because the scripture says - He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself. A large swath of the Baptist camp have taught this for generations. There are around 20 baptist denominations since around the 1500's. Not all Baptists believe this teaching. There are obviously showmanship and a fake in a pentacostal or any denominational local church anywhere.

People have told me they actually spoke another language (that they didn’t know)- it was confirmed by the person that the Lord needed it to be spoken to!
I don’t understand why people who “speak”in tongues don’t understand the Underlying principle here-
I have just supposed it could make folks “feel” superior to other people! Idk!

I see many evangelicals especially the younger 1's doing the tongues.I look at it like this -whatever they believe that's bringing them to Jesus ? Let them have it.A walk with God is starting in thier hearts and who are we to judge anyone? God can read your mind and He and only He can tell what's in a man's heart and not everyone has a biblical scholarly education. And what did Jesus say about practicing your righteousness in public? There's a reason for that too...If God starts a work in anyone we should simply pray for that person's journey to be successfully accomplished. And let the Lord work out the details as each man's salvation is unique.

I saw that one time on my first visit to a new church. I sat and watched the spectacle and listened to what the one woman who was supposedly translating said until they both fell on the floor. I didn't get anything but a bunch of gibberish from either woman. I then sat there for the rest of the service and then ran out of that place as fast as I could. The whole thing freaked me out really bad as that had never happened before in any church I have even been to. I never went to church after that. My church was closed down and was sold to someone that turned it into a bar. Needless to say, I never went there either. Haven't been in a church since and it's been about 40 years now. I'm be turning 69 YO in a few days. I've been single for about 38 of those years and have just given up. I pray for my 2 sisters, a few friends and a few acquaintances around the world and then I usually just ask G-s to let me die in my sleep. I don't even pray for myself anymore at least hardly ever. Now, I'm just waiting to die. I'm done.
