    Blood Meal is a slow release nitrogen fertilizer. It releases the nitrogen within about 60 days or so. With that being said, apply a quick start fertilizer early along with the blood meal. Urea is a great source of quick start nitrogen. Great video

      Ah that is what happened to mine they grew pretty good but they got yellow on the bottom and that was the reason I never made those trenches into the sides and fed it the Nitrogen I spread it over the top with Fish nutrient. So Ill have to do that next time.

      SBF HAWK broadcast on top works fine but you need about 1 1/2 inch of rain. You can use urea and mix with water which is what I use when I need quick nitrogen

    yellow leaves could be alot of things. If fertilizing doesnt fix it or not watering as much doesnt fix it might be a bacterial disease.you can fertilize with all purpose if you want just make sure the nitrogen is higher and when the silk forms use all purpose also. the plant will need phosphorus and potasium to grow the fruit.Next year i will put down nitrogen only before i plant my seeds then next two times i will use all purpose fertilizer.hope this helps and good luck

  • @danieldefenseM4

    I've always hit mine with 10-0-0 when they are about 8 inches high. When they get knee high, I put a generous amount of 34-0-0. Make sure you water immediately after applying, or apply before rain. Some people like to go lighter on the nitrogen but I prefer to go heavier. It will sometimes burn the base of the stalk but you will have extremely green corn that will produce full ears.

      - Using such high concentrations of N or any other fertilizer for that matter. I'm sorry to say, it's ridiculous, irresponsible and on top, a waste of money.
      That kind of attitude it's why people down the line complain about polluted aquifers, algae bursts, etc. and why land is destroyed at outrageous rates.
      The plants CAN'T handle such concentrations, reason why it burn... It's a simple way to leach undesired components to everybody else. Really stupid attitude.
      For pit sake people learn a tiny little bit about what you're doing, don't mess it to yourself and to all others. ;-)

Will try 1 shot decomposed horse manure extract this year in a comparison test with diluted urine @ 6 leaves growth stage. When growing small surfaces of corn plants, manual pollinisation is an important aspect to get better cropping results too.

    ,did you add any soil amendent. My dad hasnt planted anything in 40 years most likey but he was really into it all as a teen and young adult growing up. Our house doesnt seem to have a good of soil. I planted my garden 10 years ago and I took some classes and all but I mainly experiment now that Im out of school. Anyway we tried corn a few years ago but I planted it around 2015 and it blew over a little and it looked a bit like your first year because I really didnt anything. maybe 2 deformed cobs. However this year dad planted. He didnt use soil conditioner and I wish he had because I always use it. compost or peat moss or even manure but but lately with the shrub border I put miracle gro and some peat in the holes no manure maybe a bit a of compost in some but not needed. Anyway we are going to used that Bone Meal . It seems awesome! The stuff in the soil might not be as good but that fertilizer should definately help . He said he he will by some tomorrow. and a tiny square but we going to try it out. get that deep green color and the stalks not purple. So thanks alot! Im over here cracking up on how u came back in like hey after us the old corn lol

    Yes its good to have the soil rich before planting seed,but if you didnt then give them that boost before knee high.Corn loves nitrogen and what nitrogen you did have in your soil will probably be gone before they get knee high.Watch out for the leaves turning yellow.That mean no nitrogen. Hope this helps

  • @usc529

    It will grow untill it runs out of nitrogen in the soil then it will start turning purple and yellow and stop growing tall.It will still tassel out but your cobs will not have any kernels on them and wont be big at all.Corn loves nitrogen and it usually needs 1 fertilization about 2 ft tall and that will take it own to the end.

    Hey man,
    Don't discount P. You say "purple leaves" are caused by lack of N. Purple leaves are due to lack of P. Corn is a heavy feeder of NPK. If you over N, you'll have a plant that will grow to the moon but produce hardly anything. The P and K given you production and root development respectivly.

    Purple leaves are actually a sign of phosphorous deficiency, not nitrogen. Nitrogen deficiency is recognized by the yellowing of the first true leaves (older bottom leaves) because of its mobility in the plant. Don't forget to apply phosphorous at planting at a higher rate than nitrogen using something like a 5-10-30 fertilizer also known as a pop-up fertilizer.

BTW, i mulched my corn with grass clippings because the weeds were getting crazy. I then surface fertilized with the blood meal you recommended because I didn't want to dig up the mulch. hey yea I planted in already fertile soil high in nitrogen so when the corn got about knee high I gave it another dose of nitrogen but yea you are right it does need the other nutrients as well. try fertilizing once at knee high and then again right when the tassels are come out that should be enough. I never used fungicide. My first year growing corn I had no bug problems but my second year I saw very little worm activity. still never used any fungicide

      Usc529 (Jay) I found this photo in the link below that shows nutrient deficiency symptoms in corn, and I had to use fungicide because some leaves had holes and golden marks on them like in the photo, I want to ask you if cutting the suckers from corn makes the plant taller and the ears bigger and if you know when its time to cut them?

      i would recommend putting 40 lb of nitrogen an acre and 20 lb of each phosphorous and potassium. the bugs in america are uselessly ear worm and army worm but that would probably be different then Europe.

    Hi.. can you please suggest/recommend corn plant age wise sprays to avoid insects and bugs? I am very new in this field and going to seed for the first time in next few weeks.. Your help and support shall be much appreciated.

      I didn't use anything because some bugs are good bugs you want and I didn't want to put anything on my plants that would kill every bug so I just left it alone. What kinda bug problem are you having?

    I only planted a small row of corn in a space of about 2 1/2 ft wide by 10 ft. long( It's my first garden, so it's small). What is your advice about how far away I should put fertilizer or can i put it directly onto or around it?

    • @JustTheMessenger4u
      @JustTheMessenger4u 10 років тому +1

      Corn is better in clusters than rows, so you should plant 2×9 or even 3 x 8 in that place rather than 1 long row.

    Do you still use the 12-0-0, or have you changed since the video? Thanks

    • @usc529
      @usc529  4 роки тому

      As far as organic fertilizer goes yes. It’s the highest percent organic nitrogen I’ve been able to find. If I was using any other type fertilizer I would go with a higher percentage of nitrogen like 19-0-0 or whatever you can find. Not sure if I mentioned it or not in the video but you also wanna give your corn some phosphorus and potassium.

      @@usc529 Did you try pee or decomposed horse manure extract ? Liquid fertilizer is much easier to use.

    Make sure before you plant your seeds your dirt is very rich in nitrogen.

    N can be applied pre-plant or side-dressed, it all comes down to preference, which is usually decided by labor and time constraints. But you being a youtube farmer, I dont have to explain the pros and cons of applying 28 or NH3 before, during or after planting. I guess what im saying is after reading your comment, YOU dont know what YOURE doing.Thanks for opening your mouth and removing all doubt. If you like 'playing' in your garden go for it. I really dont care past this post.
