Miami is the tone setter for how this season is going to go. There’s no time to hide anything. Stars gotta make the plays, crowd has to be rockin, coaches have to be organized and ready to make adjustments. AND TACKLE, assignment football, and if we give Mertz time, and if we open the holes for Montrell, and feed Badger & Tre, we’ll be fine.

Yep! Every game seems like we're playing a rival. By the time we hit November to play those CrimiNOLES, the hype is mediocre. Still relevant, still a rivalry, but mediocre. Especially if half our team is hurt by that time. Due to playing in a real conference, not the Atlantic Cupcake Conference...😂

To Ali's point about recruiting, beating Miami would be a nice feather in the cap, but it wouldn't be the biggest feather.
What would REALLY be nice is beating all three in the state. If Napier can pull that off, the recruiting gets a massive push and the potential bragging rights the UF faithful would have the following year is insane

I believe the Tennessee game is the most important SEC game for Florida. If you beat Tennessee in back-to-back years when the Vols are playing their best stretch of football since the Fulmer era, especially this year on the road, that will be a big confidence boost for Florida on the road against Texas and Florida State

From a Cane perspective, UF played 3 top ten teams last season, 6 total ranked teams. At Utah was a no win for UF, period. Looking at UF playing UCF, FSU and Miami out of conference. Balls. Our Canes have back to back 3-5 ACC records. If Napier's seat is hot, then Mario's should be surface of the sun ☀️ hot. This game is HUGE for UM. Of course, I was there in 2013 when we beat UF and it meant nothing that season. This would be extremely important for UF to win this game for recruiting, protecting the homefield and mindset going forward.
    Good discussion, BTW

The most important game is the next one. Yeah, we beat Utah, which would be similar to beating Miami, and it was a great week to be a Gator. But then the very next week we didn't show up for Kentucky and got beat. So all that good will from the Utah win was waning. Then we nearly lost to South Florida which killed any remaining good will from the Utah win. So, yeah, it's the next game that's the most important. If we beat Miami, everyone will be hyped like we were with the Utah win. Then we need to embarrass Samford. We need to beat them so badly, they consider closing their football program. Then we need to beat A&M. See what I mean? It's always going to be the next one. Because we just don't know what to expect from this team. We hope it will be better. Some people are trying to argue that it _will_ be better. But they have to prove it every week. So right now the next game is Miami. That makes it the most important.

I think the Kentucky game is. They are a team we used to dominate and now we have lost to several times in a row. We play them every year and not just occasionally like the Miami game this year. If we can’t find a way to get back to where we were against our SEC opponents it doesn’t really matter if we happen to beat a team like Miami or UCF.

  • @WCworkhorse
    @WCworkhorse 2 місяці тому

Totally agree about Miami. It completely sets the tone. If the Gators can't beat Miami, then there are a lot of other teams on the schedule they won't beat. If they beat Miami, then there is still hope for a good season. It means at minimum the Gators should meet expectations and says we have a shot of exceeding expectations. If we lose to Kentucky, it's either one of two things. Most likely it means that we already have a couple of losses on our record. Which in that case, bye bye Billy. However, if we go into the Kentucky game undefeated, we can still count that loss after a big win over Tennessee as a letdown game. That kind of loss is so cliché and happens all the time. If you had beaten all teams before Kentucky, I don't think a loss at Kentucky is going to change your outlook on the rest of the season. I mean you aren't going to like it but it's no predictor of the rest of the season at that point.

Every game up to Georgia is the most important. The reason is that it's either teams we should beat (i.e., dont pull another vanderbilt) or teams that we've either lost to the past few years and shouldn't again (Kentucky) or teams we've beaten the past few years and should continue beating (Tennessee).

  • @RollinIsbell

I remember when teams used to dread seeing UF on their schedule instead of UF (and their fans) complaining about having a tough schedule.
This schedule is really just a dose of reality for life in the new, expanded SEC. There are NO more "easy" schedules.
I've preached sticking with Napier for 4 or 5 years to get off of the coaching carousel. But if we don't think Napier has what it takes to coach and motivate the Gators this year - or any year - to winning seasons, then he's not the right guy for the program.

We can make arguments about Miami, Kentucky etc but I think Texas A&M will be the tell on the Gators season. They have a first year head coach but plenty of talent and it's the first SEC game of the year. We get them early in the season which might be a good thing because I think TAM will get better as the year goes on. Miami is in year 3 but their record has been far better than Florida's and they've been projected as a possible ACC champion so a loss there wouldn't wreck the program and may even be expected. As far as momentum goes, it didn't work out that way when we beat Utah so I question it's importance. If we can't beat TAM at home we're in trouble. To me, the TAM game is the most important of the season and of the first 6 games, it will be the gauge on how well Florida will eventually be.

For Napier, the next game will always be the most important game. He doesnt have the luxury to lose games anymore. No single game matters anymore because, well...2 losing seasons in a row. Once the Miami game is over nobody is going to remember it. What happened last season against a specific team doesnt matter anymore either. Signature wins are meaningless in year 3 after going 5-7 and 6-7.

To start strong is real important. Beat Miami and show grit and rhythm will go a long way. However every game will have to be played strong with no mistakes and with alot of passion. Can't be pushed around and do dumb mistakes. Kentucky needs to be a win. Ucf needs to be a win. Like to have LSU a win. Haven't won since 2018. Ole Miss will be difficult. Georgia and Texas very difficult. I'd like to think can win at FSU if we have the momentum playing well. I still like 7 to 8 wins with possible 9. Can't win 5 or even 6 and say it successful. If you win 7 or 8 with schedule you have to feel real good. Feel you have a good team.

It’s all relative. I expect UF to beat UM, Samford, aTm, MS, UCF, Kentucky and FSU. Therefore, I don’t expect to compete to be in SEC Championship game so that slightly diminishes the high seat of any SEC game. We can win the state and for recruiting I would rather be 7-5 as state champs this year than 7-5 an additional better SEC win. So it’s it’s a signature rd win against FSU or an opening home win against UM. Honestly FSU is the better win but most likely Napier fate will be decided before FSU, so for that reason and all it entails. Beating the Canes by 17 is the most important game and the positive vibes that go with it!
The great part about this season is it truly is a game by game season. Maybe incorrectly we look past Samford, but every game is going to feel like the most important game of the season and I’m not talking about a catch phrase way.

Napier miraculously changes his ways & they play consistently? Or they continue to be an extremely up and down team.

Here's the tiebreaker between UK and Miami (FL), Ali...
In no universe should Florida lose to Kentucky.
And I'm not taking anything away from Stoops. Hell of a coach, and he's done an incredible job there.
But UF is one of the best public universities in the country, we have probably 3x the facilities UK does, and we have better recruiting, historically.
And while Shelton loves to bag on Miami (FL), the truth is: at one time, they were literally one of the best teams the sport has ever seen (2001). NO ONE will EVER say that about Kentucky.
The bottom line with where UF is right now is this: beat the teams you should beat. Stop talking about beating UGA or Texas or Alabama. Start beating UK and UCF and Arkansas.
    Oh, and by the way...
Miami (FL) was actually way, way better than their record suggested last year.
People talking all this mess about how maybe Cam Ward is overhyped? Apparently, those people conveniently forgot that we lost to BRYSON BARNES-led Utah last year.
    Beat.
    The teams.
    You should beat.
    Defense: make a play.
    Beat Kentucky.
    Aidan Mizell.
    That's the mantra for 2024.

We have a good chance of beating everyone except GA and Texas. Would obviously want to win all of them, but GA and Texas are out of reach at this point and time

It's not miami it's the Georgia game. They could lose to miami and still win the SEC East.

Georgia, It's always Georgia. It always has been and always will be. There is very little chance they beat Georgia, but if they do anything else that may happen can be forgiven. Miami is not an SEC team. If they lose to Miami and beat Georgia, the Miami loss will hardly be remembered. If they beat Miami and get clobbered by Georgia, the Miami victory will hardly be remembered.

Losing to Samford & Son after Miami trounces you, would be the best and worst. The loss bad, but it would put you out of your seasons misery. Everyone would understand throwing in the towel, like FSU did in the Orange Bowl.
