They have the Stream, this is an addition to the stream. Like having a Fire stick or something like that but has the Directv interface like in the video. I have an apple TV and when I use the Directv app on the Apple TV I lose functionality of the remote and I cannot navigate properly on the Directv app. Maybe other devices are better but Apple TV sucks for this application. I am getting the free box from Directv so I will see how this works. I also have a Harmony universal remote that I want to program to this new Directv Box. Quite honestly if you have a Home theater setup this seems like a cluncky way to run your system. I am going to try out the Smart TV app and functionality on my Sony maybe that will work better for me than the Apple TV. It's just a huge pain right now because I can't really use the service like I want to with out spending more money and the whole reason I went to streaming was to have less equipment and save some money but as of right now its the same equipment and more money. since I will have to more than likely get 2 more boxes.....

If you have a 4K TV, all content is upscaled to 4K. If you have an HDTV you can choose which resolution to use (1080i or 720p) - this is a global setting, not a program by program basis. Gemini is a replacement for the Genie mini client. You would need one to replace every mini client you have.

Does anyone know, can this be controlled over IP? Or will the new hardware still have IR like the classic boxes. This is important for AV integrators in high value properties.
It looks like the Gemini can be controlled over IP. I haven't tried it with control4 or anything like that but it does seem to respond the same way the older boxes do and you can IP control it with the DIRECTV app. It also has IR using the same codes as the older DIRECTV boxes.

Quick question. Before when I was using the Genie boxes with DTV by Satellite, it was upconverting the 720p to 1080i. Now with the Gemini box (with DTV by Satellite) when I check to see what signal my TV is receiving it shows 1080p. So is the Gemini now upconverting everything to 1008p. Also in the video settings on the Gemini the option to select multiple resolutions at the same time, is gone.
Yes both are true. Gemini only supports one resolution at a time and scales everything to that resolution. DIRECTV removed native mode support some time ago, and this is the logical next step.
Can you force the receiver to only display 1080p on a 4K channel? On the Genie under video settings you can uncheck 4K and it’ll max the signal at 1080p which looks better on Fox games. Can you force the Gemini to do that too?
@@SolidSignalNovi I guess what I’m asking is my mom loves to record the hallmark movies on our genie 2 dvr that we have now, but she has to delete some of them bc she doesn’t have much dvr hours left. AT&T has released a newer version which is a much smaller box with a dongle (very short HDMI cable) hard-wired in. The AT&T stores are distributing those to new TV customers, and calling it the Gemini. It comes with what looks to be the same remote control. Have you tried it? I need to find out if this new dongle version supports IR control (or maybe IP), or if it only works with the included Bluetooth remote control?
The Gemini Air is now available at Solid Signal. It does not work with IR. It may work with IP control but I haven't been able to get it to work thus far.
I wish to get a Gemini, but am trying to figure out whether to keep my HR44. What might be an advantage? How might streaming work with my HR44? Can I receive satellite programming and also stream? Does it also work with DIRECTV Stream as well?

I have been confused about this, can i use an osprey/gemini box as a client for my hs17 or is it only for DTV stream?
The box you see in this video comes in two versions. The one for DIRECTV satellite CAN be used as a client with your HS17. The other one is obsolete and CAN'T be used as a client for satellite.

Do you have to pay the $7 month fee for this device?
Yes
So Directv phased out Directv stream? Which you could just use the app without having to get a receiver.
What's the app
Do this box works in Canada? Let’s say a relative buys that for me and I’ll take it up to Canada, making my monthly payment thru a credit card addressed in US of course
It's up to you if you want to set up satellite TV in Canada, but if you did, this box would identify your location and you would be found out.
Do you know if it's possible to pair 2 remotes with it? I want it for my parents and they fight over the remote. ;P
Yes I can say for 100% certain you can pair two remotes. I've done it.

Why would a person with Osprey boxes change to the Gemini?
"Osprey" and Gemini are the same box. There is no need to upgrade.
Does the remote have back lighting?
Is the display 1080p resolution when watching satellite instead of 1080i or 720p? Also will one Gemini work on multiple TV's that have genie minis?
If you have a 4K TV, all content is upscaled to 4K. If you have an HDTV you can choose which resolution to use (1080i or 720p) - this is a global setting, not a program by program basis.
Gemini is a replacement for the Genie mini client. You would need one to replace every mini client you have.

So the Gemini does use the Google Apps Store? One of your reps I spoke to via chat a few days ago said it didn't. They also said the Gemini's remote was NOT backlit, and even though you didn't mention it here, I've seen that it is backlit in other YT reviews. So which is it? Thanks in advance for the clarification on these two matters.
The Gemini remote is backlit. Also it does use the Google Play store. I'll make sure the reps are properly trained.

The Gemini is upconverting to the highest resolution your TV supports, whether that is 1080 or 4K.
Can you change channels by number?
Does the Gemini have unlimited dvr recording?
Yes it's unlimited cloud DVR but most programs expire after 90 days.
@@SolidSignalNovi I guess what I’m asking is my mom loves to record the hallmark movies on our genie 2 dvr that we have now, but she has to delete some of them bc she doesn’t have much dvr hours left. So with this Gemini dvr can she keep all her hallmark movies she records and it not erase them after a certain amount of time? Thank you
@@Lovebites84 Unfortunately no, the recordings will be deleted after roughly 90 days.

welp, if they have a large home and the Genie client is far away but they have hardwired Wifi AccessPoints throughout the home, wifi would work better.
This is great & all but what does this mean for DirecTV Stream? the whole thing feels redundant. Great for the short term, but I thougth their whole plan was to move everything to the DTV Stream platform + add a satellite decoder on the home network for those with bad internet OR too many tv streams. Atleast thats what I was hoping for.

$140 from them but can get it free from Directv the guy failed to mention that lol
When I talked to a customer service rep about getting Directv streaming, he kept pushing the Gemini box. I told him I had Amazon Fire TV's and just wanted to use the app. He said I wouldn't get local sports channels using the app only. Is that the case? Do I really need the Gemini box to see all the channels I would be paying for in the package I choose?
You can use the DIRECTV app on Fire TV if you want. I think the experience isn’t as good because you don’t have the same buttons on the remote. But all the channels are the same.

Been thinking about upgrading to the Gemini, but will I lose my PiP functionality?
The Gemini does not have picture-in-picture. Neither does any Genie client. Only the Genie server does.
Yes that kinda sucks Picture in Picture. Our main directv box is in our bedroom hooked to older tv and it has pic in pic. But the genie minis I have on my newer TVs in living rooms no pip. Miss that

It may work with IP control but I haven't been able to get it to work thus far.
yes it will. We took this from AT&T. this was their AT&TTV reciever. we split from them 2 years ago.
I wish to get a Gemini, but am trying to figure out whether to keep my HR44. What might be an advantage? How might streaming work with my HR44? Can I receive satellite programming and also stream?
I have heard that there are satellite-only channels. Is this true? Is there a list somewhere?
I would be connecting wirelessly to my home network. Would a Gemini Air be a better choice?
