When I heard on the video that Fr Mike needed donations to build the church, I stopped the video and went to the website to see how to support him. They have a suggested amount of support, so I donated for myself as well as for four other people who would like to help, but are not able to make a donation.
Fr Mike has been an integral part of this 74 year old renewing my Catholic faith, and through his teaching in Catechism in a Year, has brought me to my first reconciliation in 52 years just four short months ago. The peace and freedom from the weight of sin being lifted from me that I’ve carried all those years is beyond belief. God is so good to use people like you, Fr Mike, and the young confessor who helped me make a good confession, to spread the message that he loves each and every one of us, and only wants the very best for us.
God Bless you and Fr Mike, and may he give you both many years to spread his love.

Chris & Fr Mike, Our family were all cradle Catholics, and my parents were good people, and made sure we went to CCD and Church, but did not really teach us to READ and learn the Bible, nor do I think they were instructed that way either. I do not recall our CCD classes teaching us Scripture either. We were told to listen to the Word of God in Vhurch, and I always thought the Bible was more or less a reference guide and a history of our Faith. As an adult I went to our RCIA classes to learn more, and do know read my Bible. Many of my Protestant friends have always been dedicated to learning and memorizing Scripture. I am not condemning my parents nor the Church, nor the Teachers. I assume that somehow gradually how our Faith was taught in the USA change until it lost the importance of Reading the Bible. Fr Mike your Bible in a year, has been a God send, and I will be forever grateful to you and you Chris for all I have learned. Thank you so much! kathy

Kathy, after reading your thoughtful comments, I’m wondering if it couldn’t have something to do perhaps with the immigrant generation reaching a time of *breaking?* where they knew their religion in their old world language, but the children only spoke English. They couldn’t study, or even read, Scripture together. Just my thought

@@cynthia57169 Thank you Cynthia, it is very possible, I felt my parents did a great job with us, yet I am so happy to have learned to look even far deeper into the Bible. Our parents and their siblings also had large families of children. When there are so many children such a span of ages, infants to 20 years, perhaps that also made it more difficult to teach the Bible.

Cue 15:30 - "God is 'only' good" - That describes me 35 years ago, at 40 years of age. Growing up, my mom took us to church "to introduce us" to what "some people" believe. In high school, she let us decide for ourselves who God was. With a driver's license, we went for the youth group fun events. God did not go with us. College? Freed from "religion," I didn't care whether God was or was not real. Life was good...or at least OK. I didn't care enough to declare he didn't exist. I just didn't care.
Based on my entire life today, as a Christian, I attribute my past indifference to:
    1) a lack of belief in anything I couldn't see/hear/touch,
    2) a disinterest in where the world (universe) came from...any power great enough to create the world,
    3) my own self-importance as the center of truth and life.

Sometimes all you need to do is ask the "nones" to attend a service. Not by shouting at them or telling them they're going to h*ll, but by just speaking normally. Invite them to a service or a fun event. Sometimes that's all it takes. 5 years of college, only one person ever asked me to come to a worship service with them. (My friend asked me if I wanted to go to Synagogue with him. I'm not Jewish but it was still very interesting to attend.)

We live in a ratings-related world. Unfortunately, "belonging" and being accepted by their peers. Growing up Catholic, the passing on of faith was the responsibility of the church, not of parents. It's I believe, hardness of hearts. Thanks to participation in Mass and the Sacraments, BiY, prayers, helping others, I am realizing the absolute importance of God in my life! Thanks be to Our Lord Jesus Christ for never letting me go!~

In our family, it was really simple. You had to stay in CCD until you were confirmed then you didn’t have to go anymore for out of the five of us got confirmed the fifth. We couldn’t even keep in high school much less get them in church. I listen to what you teach in confirmation today and I think back to 1969 when I was confirmed, I had to pick out a Saint write a little paper about him and learn about the sacraments because we were told that the bishop would call on us during the sacrament and ask us specific questions about them so we needed to study those go to confession. What happens now I don’t know, but I wish I did, I know there’s no RICA for confirmation for 67-year-old women but I wish that I had the teaching available to me that that time that is taught today. I actually stayed with everything until I got married and then I know this is not gonna sound nice but I had the Armenian church thrown down my throat, and I was told because I had married to that church. I was Armenian orthodox and I keptsaying no I am a Roman Catholic. We had a Catholic Church less than a block from my house and the only time I was ever in. It was Boy Scout and Girl Scouts Sundays as a Boy Scout leader when my boys went eagle and many of them did and I can probably brag so did my own son. I told their story of the Eagle Trail From the lector of the Methodist Church that sponsored us. Then I got divorced and I figured well now I’m really out because here I am. I failed at the most important relationship in my life personal relationship. Last touch with my kids who decided their dad was a better option, but I still managed once I came home to go to Ash Wednesday mass. at least I did that then came Covid and then came to Catholic mass from the Cardinal of Chicago. And I watched it all those years and I kept thinking as I stepped away from the Sunday morning there has to be more of this than 28 minutes every Sunday morning with cardinal. I had this in my head and someone close to me said would you like to go with me to adoration and confession? I said what’s adoration I don’t know anything about it and she explains it to me and it sounded like a good place to start and we were coming into lent and she’s like you should really if you’re thinking about going to confession start thinking about it after all, I only had 45 to 50 years that I had to confess in 10 minutes. I had a great priest who said we’re just gonna shoot for your greatest hits and immediately put me at ease and we talked for a while and it was longer than 10 minutes and even after we thought I was done he called me back and said did you receive on Ash Wednesday and I said yes said you weren’t supposed to do that. I said yeah I know that now I didn’t know that, So he had to take that away. Since that time, unless I have been sick and I’ve been really sick I do not miss mass. I do no miss adoration. I’m not at the church that I started in, but I met one that’s very close to my house and I’m very happy and my daughter married without telling me so I have no idea if she has a faith. My son chose not to marry, which is fine with me, but I also don’t know if he has a faith. It wasn’t because I didn’t try. It was because I kept getting knocked down every time I did so I pray for them and my granddaughters that I’ve never met along with the rest of my family and others who have come into my life, and I am looking forward to Advent and marking off another year that I have returned to the church. I’m in Ascension and a Hallow head. I don’t answer the phone which starts ringing in this house at 8 o’clock during my holy hour . And for the most part, I don’t go to sleep without at the minimum doing the liturgy for that evening. I know that when I pass that I’m gonna have to spend some time having my soul reformed and made For the love of Jesus. But I also know that it will be worth it. Thanks for this. Great interview Chris anytime we get a chance to hear Father Mike is a good day.

What i see from my perspective is that people see these cheerful guys but the faith is knowing who we are. Learning about the faith and how to apply it to our lives….Reading the lives of the Saints is so important Not only do we see what it looks like and how to apply it . The Saints share the “pious” books they’ve read that have changed their lives. It helps to make the faith more real….such as St Therese of Lisieux read “Imitation of christ” and it changed her life. St Augustine read about the “Desert Fathers.” Even Pope St Pius X wrote an encyclical for priests called “Sanctity of Priests” in which he gives a blueprint on what the priesthood should look like and how to achieve it. It’s one of the most beautiful documents i’ve ever read. No one really promotes these classics and instead seems to think we need to come up with a “new way ” or a new program but living a life of holiness and self denial is the foundation for any appstolate….

    • @RealLifeCatholic
      @RealLifeCatholic  27 днів тому

@@garydelperdang3484 the answer is to return to Jesus Christ. A particular expression of the sacred liturgy isn’t “the” answer.
Of course Jesus gives himself to us through the liturgy, and liturgical debates matter… but the idea that a return to TLM will solve every problem on earth is insane.
Many TLM priests had no lived relationship with Jesus. Failed to convert and repent and pray. And ended up causing the abuse crisis we just came out of. But they went to TLM. So?
The entire new treatment is clear on this point: write the law on your heart. Convert, interiorly. Give your life to the Lord.
You owe it to yourself to read the Gospels, friendo.
