What a fantastic, thoughtful discussion on Soth’s first book. This analysis and study is also so helpful in how to take and sequence good photos. Bravo!
It's great to know you're enjoying the longer format. I've been thinking lately whether videos should be longer like this or shorter. The short ones feel so packed.
Thanks for sharing your collection of photobooks and your research with us! I love looking at photobooks but don't own many or have access to some of the ones I want to see. Very helpful for my photo classes too.
Just found your channel while scouring for more long form photography content. I was actually searching for Mike Brodie interviews which led me to your review of his book. Very cool idea and just subbed.
Happy to hear that you've subscribed! An interesting note; Mike Brodie actually left some comments on my review of that book. A few years ago he went on a road trip to deliver work to an exhibition and documented the trip. It was pretty wild. That book has one of the highest views of all the books on my channel.
Thanks once again! I really enjoyed it a lot. I will certainly rewatch it later a few more times. I liked the longer form of this video as well! I appreciate your commentary on Alec Soth’s work. Speaking of him - it’s unfortunate that he stopped putting out videos on his channel. It’s been over a year I guess since his last video.
I, too, was intrigued by the celebrity in the Brainerd, Minnesota picture, and couldn‘t find anything. I actually ended up asking Alec Soth who it was, and he didn‘t know either! Just a note about the futility of trying to decode the artist‘s intention from every detail, especially with photography.
I imagine then it might be a local celebrity who received the honor. That's exciting, being able to ask him yourself! Yes, I think photography and poetry share that characteristic.

Glad too see you uploading again! Love the longer format.
