I'm really early, so I'd like to take this opportunity to say hi Melissa! And hello comment section! This community brings me so much joy and I'm very grateful to have found these videos. They brighten my day every time I see a new one, and bring light to days spent mostly in bed.
Hiya, I have health problems as well but this community always brings a smile to my face!!! We're all fighting together but still take the time to stop and appreciate beautiful things such as dolls
I fell down the Kurhn rabbit hole around fifteen years ago and fell in love with them and I'm not even a fashion doll collector. The quality is amazing. The Night Angel and Moon Goddess are still on display with my dinosaurs and Living Dead dolls.
What you said is most definitely not racist. It is common especially in Korea for people to lighten their skin because there's a belief that it's more attractive. Btw these dolls are so omg adorable!! Love love LOVE~!!
I’m 16 years old I still l Secretly collect dolls it’s nice to see older people do it I don’t feel so alone I always loved dolls I still do ❤️❤️❤️ I love your channel I used to watch you when I was younger
I've always wanted a Kurhn, one of the traditionally dressed ones, but opted for J-dolls instead because they were similar priced at the time. I really like the picnic set. There was doll line called Smartgurlz from a few years ago that looked like Kurhn but more westernized, like they had a black doll, a doll with freckles, etc.
I know I'm late but the Smartgurlz dolls were just kurhn dolls! The back of their heads and bodies have the kurhn copyright info on it. I'm guessing they either got the kurhn brand to make dolls for them or they bootlegged the dolls since their main focus was on teaching coding via the electric siggy/Segway thry came with. Either way it was awesome to be able to get kurhn in some different skin tones! I managed to get one in a lovely tan :)
I love the Kurhn dolls. I had only one before Kewpie's blog made me extra interested. My favourite is the "Kurhn Style" doll. She has pretty brown shoes, exchangable hands, flat feet, a stand and nice clothes. My second favourite is the one that you got, with the sun dress and all.
Looove your cute Ghoulia blouse!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 It'so sad that these cute dolls aren't available internationally, such as other doll brands with lower quality nowadays (hasbro or barbie dolls, for example...)😪 They would have had soo much popularity towards us, both children and collectors, that they could have been a fierce competitor with Barbie, Disney store and Omgs
When were these dolls made??? They look like they have really good quality! But then again, everything looks good when compared to modern barbie fashionistas LMAO (no offense to anyone who likes them)
Those minnie outfits are so adorable!!!! I’m with you and probably many other collectors.....I absolutely don’t need any more new dolls!! I need to be preparing for the return of MH and the limited edition dolls, Disney will be releasing later this year 😜😜😜
In many Asian cultures, paleness is compared to beauty and wealth; those people would work outside in the farm would get tanned and get dark and it lets them know that they are in the working class/poor family. The wealthy don't have to work outside, so they stay indoors and stay pale as they can. It's sad that in southeast Asia, they still push this light skin as beautiful in their cultural norm, causing these young women to buy these toxic whitening creams and their ingredients are often not regulated and the government doesn't really care. You are not being racist saying that in the video, you're just stating facts observed from many impossible beauty standards in Asian countries.
I had one of these years and years ago - found her cheap at a doll fair and was attracted to the lovely face, but she was on a different body which didn't have that posability. Might try her again on that great body, as she really is so very pretty...and presumably she'd be quite cheap...so it's a quick fix of dolly crack!
If anyone wants to know, if you compare these dolls and Pedigree (Marx) Sindy dolls then you understand why Sindy was more popular (when she was produced) in Asia than Barbie. No shade on Barbie by the way, Pedigree Sindy during the 1970s and 1980s was preferred as she looked more like what they like than Barbie did.
Yay love that you are reviewing them, K Rin is how I say it, as for the beauty of pale skin that is true that lighter skin is something of a desirable trait in Asia mainly just to say that you don't work much outside and that you are well to do if you have pale skin. It is the same idea of light vs dark skin
O dang I am quite early😋 THESE DOLLS ARE SO CUTE! Unrelated but if he is comfortable with it it would be so amazing if Kaden (sorry idk if I spelt that right) came on the show! I miss him being on there as a kid🥰. But obviously I understand if he doesn’t want to.
I’d think you say it like coourn edit: nope I’m very wrong it is kern but with a softer h like k sound and almost sounding like karin with the rn sound, also watching you is so comforting since I grew up watching you. it’s so nice, like oml my panic attacks just ceased :0
Takara Tomy is the competition of Mattel, with Jenny and Licca chan. Jenny and Licca, also have family and friends dolls to collect, along with playsets and accessories.
I prefer licca chan dolls myself, not sure why, probably cause I had one as a child and she stood out from the rest of my dolls and looked so breathtaking I believe they also have a minnie mouse doll
It looks like the same packaging for the fashion Minnie dolls, I could be wrong. I like these, probably won't buy them. But, these are good for Asian collectors or even Asian kids who want a doll that looks like them. Clawdeena9 mentioned as a kid there weren't many Asian dolls out there.
Hi melissa My name is Keely and I an 13 years old I have always loved dolls and when I wach your vids you make it seem like it is great to love dolls and that people will not make fun of you. when ever I see you have posted a vid I stop my day and watch it, you make me smile and It is amazing the feeling you give me. I am having a lot of drama in my life and you make it go away so I just want to say thank you
Ah! So it was you who beat me to them on Aliexpress? Had them in my wish list for a week until could get them. Went to get them today but sold out 😮 Got another bjd on the way instead since it was on sale 🤣
'I don't know if I'm being racist' 😹😹 yu're not being racist lol.. I've recently found yur channel and I'm so happy I have,, yu really put a smile on my face.. also as a trans woman id like to say yur son is very lucky to have yu for a mom..x
Try to get dbs dolls on aliexpress the dream fairy 30cm dolls are so cute i have a few of them and i plan to collect them all trust me they are much more prettier in person
When I first saw Kurhn on Ebay, I saw her under the name Sonya, so I thought that was her name. I couldn't find a comment about it, sorry if I missed it :(. I love her face and I recently just got one off a Ebay. I often worry about saying "racist" things. You did not. Colorism is prevalent in Asian countries and comes from history.
I have one set I bought from WDW Epcot China pavilion ,she’s not Disney themed though ,probably about five years ago,I don’t know if they still sell them .The last time I was there in 2019 I think they did have some 😊
I've definitely heard of pale skin traditionally being thought of as "ideal" in Asian countries like South Korea, Japan, and China. I heard it became ingrained in societies due to a history of poor rural laborers working in the sun vs. wealthy people who could stay inside. I guess the same was true of white people at a certain point in time. Then it reversed with tanning beds and all that...now I'm not sure if most white people really care either way. Perhaps some people are more aware/concerned about sun damage, but I could also envision the crunchy hipster crowd enjoying an outdoorsy tan.
I speak mandarin! According to the mandarin writing, it's kuh-er The first word 可 is pronounced like kuh, rhymes with the article a. The second word 儿 is pronounced er, rhymes with her. Imo the English words don't match at all so maybe the English name is supposed to sound different
EEEEE! LOVE KURHN!! Check out Licca from Japan. Also the new Tokyo Disney Fashion Dolls they are addddooorable. Apologize to your bank account on my behalf.
Lol I think true racism comes from intention. You’re fine. Yes, it is desirable to have light pale skin in Asia bc it makes them look unblemished and doll-like. Whatever skin qualities newborn Asian babies have is what adults want.
That red skirt is sooo adorable dammit! 🥵😂 also you have me so curious about how big your collection is lol! At this point I imagine you have dolls in every room of the house from the way you talk about it hahaha Maybe with how big your channel has grown it’s time to rent your own studio office for filming 😉 just for filming of course...not for more doll space or anything 👀😂
可儿 is hard to pronounce. It's gonna be like K-ER. Means cutie. In East Asia historically white skin means you are rich and don't have to work outdoor like peasants.
I’m pretty sure that the orange stripe vest is meant to be worn by a “cashier” doll, to sell them the extra outfits in the shopping play set and then bag them in the little shopping bag. That’s my theory, anyway.
Oh it looks like they're made in the same factories as Mattel's china made Barbie's. Aaaand from what I can gather the one without bangs is called Bobby (I think lol)
I hear you! but I cannot part with any of my hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of different kinds of dolls ... it's a problem. Trying to not buy more new dolls is an even bigger problem! Velcro of any kind is awful, I hate it!! If I get a doll with Velcro on the garment, it comes off and I replace it with snaps, hooks&eyes, buttons, or sometimes zippers. Velcro is the worst stuff ever!. Just sayin'.
I am really glad to see those dolls on you chanel. They are one of biggest doll brands in China. The name is read ke'er in pinyin, you are studying Chinese now, I hope you can try to read it yourself. They are awesome. I suggest you also check out Lelia and Night Lolita. Lelia is more play line, Barbie like, Night Lolita has 60 cm with ball joints all over their body, wigs, eyes that can be changed, like the super expensive bjds, female and male dolls, 30 cm child like completely ball jointed dolls and 30 cm Barbie like, very well articulated and extremely well posable dolls. Night Lolita also has this amazing TV series promoting the dolls. It is like a fairytale, fairies, magic, human children, adventures it is amazing...8 seasons, I think. I will try to search for a link and post it with a different comment later. I don't know if it is translated somewhere, but even if only in Chinese, it can help you study Chinese😉 My favourite character is the Water prince, he is so blue and cute😁 I am sorry for being so talkative, it is just I have been following your chanel for years and I have been living in China for years and I feel like two worlds that seemed so separated are finally getting together now☺️ I love Chinese dolls, the only thing that kind of bothers me about them is the ghostly paleness and the lack of any other skin tone... But, it is a cultural difference.
Wait, did u just say “farhead” not forehead? Idk if that is an accent or something or if over in America u say farhead but surely not, anyway, I just thought that was really weird😂🤔
Your okay mama with the asians. Our cultures all have this idea from colonialism that light skin would be more of a desireable feature. You ddnt say nothing racist and i appreciate you addressing it with these dolls Because there are asian people who are more melinated but are depicted as low class so not highlight. Like outskirts of china and more rural parts have beautiful taupish melinated tones. Never represented

@@MyWorldMelissa I honestly see no problem with your anjme comment, because this doll's makeup does make her look like an anime character. I'm asian and that didn't offend me one bit, because it's accurate.
