We practiced aircraft maintenance on the 101 Voodoo @ Tech school @ Sheppard AFB, Texas, 1983, she looked bad ass to me, I than went on to an Asst Crew Chief on the F-4 Phantom, 1983-1986, the reason I am saying so is because I have been trying to locate anyone that was there at that time, only found 1 man that was there at the 21St AMU. Anyway, yep, the 101 is one of my fav aircraft.

I was with the RCAF in Ottawa on February 20, 1959 when Diefenbaker cancelled the Avro CF-105 Arrow in favor of the F-101. This resulted in the loss of 25,000 jobs in the aerospace industry. These people went to the States, where they helped the Apollo program send men to the Moon. Now, 60 years later, NASA wants to spend $4.1 Billion per flight to return to the moon. It's ironic how fate works.

The Voodoo is one of my favourite century series fighters.

Nice info, but pretty sure another aircraft has broken most speed records since then. can you say SR-71 Blackbird?

Fun Fact... F-101 flies further on one external fuel tank than two...

Wrong-if that were true you wouldn't need two fuel tanks and if that were true they would have used one centerline fuel tank! There's a fun fact for you! My dad flew F-101s and he told me that wasn't true! Just another fun fact!

@@craig4867 Another fun fact... I worked on these things, 409SQN, CFB Comox, on the West coast of Canada we used to get visiting F-101s from CFB Bagotville, Quebec, a distance of 2048NM with several refueling stops between them. Now ours were 101Bs, two external fuel tanks have more drag than two. The 101 was never envisioned to have a centre line tank so put that out of the discussion. The single external tank added approximately 15 to 20 minutes of flight time, two external tanks because of the extra drag added half that of one.

@@JohnHill-qo3hb bottom line-it's still flew farther on two fuel tanks then one and if that weren't the case they would have designed it just for one centerline tank! I'll take the word of a Vietnam fighter pilot, before I take yours!!!

17 TRS? A former employer and friend was a photo-interpreter for his squadron.

Was at Key Field, MS when the last RF-101C squadron was phased out in favor of the RF-4C. The date was 30 January 1979. A funny thing was that there had been a bad ice storm affecting the area. The RF-101s were delayed in their departure for a few days. The 153rd had a great CO, Col. Pittman.

The RF-101 with J57 engines had less vibrations that affected the recce camera imagery according to a photo-interpreter I once knew.
