I've always loved Nymphetamine, Thorn, Darkly... I've always greatly appreciated James's work in Cradle. Darkly does indeed seem to be a forgotten album, but I listen to it as often as any other. I really like it

He is spot on about Rivers of Nihil. They get it. I too was stunned the first time i heard them and had Where Owls Know My Name on loop for quite some time. When it comes to full album playthroughs I often find myself going back to older works as they seem to have been crafted around an entire listening experience rather than spamming one single off a record. One that comes to mind is Moon in the Scorpio by Limbonic Art. What a magical experience that record is. Lengthy songs, but such a ride nonetheless! Hidden History of the Human Race by Blood Incantation is a recent one that stuck with me heavily. Anyways, what a great chat! I always look forward to these!

Hey Andrew, how are you? I hope all is well with you and yours.
Thank you for another chapter in COF history!
Tbh, Nymphetamine was the last COF album I bought. My last effort to follow the band closely, after the change with Midian.
And I say this, without any disrespect to James (Germs Warfare) or the music on the album. On the contrary, not only does James seem like a great guy (as well as a great guitarist), but also the album, while not being a Dusk or a Cruelty, is quite good musically. He “combined” very well with Paul.
It's fast, heavy, aggressive and the guitars are a wall of sound. In certain aspects I always liked Nymphetamine and Damnation and a Day more than Midian.
Anyway, thank you Andrew for your work and thank you James for sharing your story.

It would be great if that acted as an incentive for Rob to come out of his cave... with all due respect for his privacy, of course. But I'm asking for too much, I know.

I bought CRUELTY AND THE BEAST in 98. The year I graduated high school.
I liked it, thought it was nuts, but because I lived in such an extremely rural area I knew nothing about them and did not follow what they were about and what they did from there.
This was pre internet, I was busy working, doin substances and generally running myself into the ground.
I didnt keep up with the " oughts".
Somehow some years back I bumped into NYMPHETAMINE,
Not only did I like it, I started to love it.
So I ate up every bit of COF I can find, with absolutely no focus on fashion or what is cool or uncool for any particular era.
I love everything CRADLE has ever done, more or less to varying degree's, like SLAYER or IRON MAIDEN.
However, the albums since Paul left I like just a little bit less. Funny, because many people have heralded the last 3 releases as a " return to the proper form".
Ok. They are still pretty awesome. But I love the Paul Allender years and the more thrash metal guitar oriented sound.
Speakin of MAIDEN, I must admit I had a hard time digesting the BLAZE releases, once a band has had the mighty BRUCE DICKINSON, how can we be happy with anything else?
Blaze deserves respect for giving it his best, but honesty dictates I admit that it didnt hit the mark. For me.

Nick Barker said in an interview that it was vempire, not 5th empire. Something about it being the fifth album/ep but the pronounciation is still just vempire. Since Nick was there back then, I think it’s accurate.
