The only thing I liked about season 2 is more Akane. I was so ready to see more of her as she was such a good female protag for S1. The rest of it just meh. The movie too.
Movies were good, second season was good in theory but probably could've remained more on task (ie: focus more on the idea of judging a group of people as worse than the sum of their parts). Third season needed a bit more time in the oven, too much change to quickly.
Dude, your voice is absolutely perfect for narrating stories and your script writing skills are undeniable. I'll be watching your career with great interest!
I remember watching psycho-pass when I was 12 and not really understanding the full implications. When I watched it again when I was 24... Perspective changed completely.
Just on my first rewatch since I was a kid and wow, it was entertaining as a kid but the commentary on policing and power even in the first few episodes alone is fascinating and relevant.
@@socksenseiI mean, it makes sense because it’s an original/not an adaptation. Still sucks though that they couldn’t continue their original path/writing like S1.
Huge upload, i feel like this is one of those shows that were lost to time and sequelitis. That first season gripped us all so hard and then kind of lost its central theme as time went on, and it lost its status as a great series. Standalone, i think season 1 is still top 15 for me. Banger vid for a banger show dawg. Also she psych my pass till i o
This is one of those series helmed initially by Gen Urobuchi that absolutely nails that existential, nihilistic vibe that he brings to the works he touches upon. I absolutely love Psycho Pass 1st season. There's something to be said about this series growing legs and trying to expand as the world built in this limited series was ripe for expansion. But I am of the opinion that it utilized its 1 season to its with incredible effectiveness that I felt like it has said all it needed to said about the themes it wanted to dive into. I really like the ending of season 1 because it shows that there is this hopeful tone that there can possibly be some changes within by compromising but it did not dismiss the fact that doing that is NOT the only solution and all in all, the complexity and nuance of humanity will always be a work in progress. Thank you for highlighting this wonderful series.
Watching s1 and s2 made think early on that akane might be a psychopath with how well she could keep her number despite all the wack stuff she had been into
I usually never really keep up with shows that much, bc i don't watch them actively. But I remember that I watched S1 of Psycho Pass when I was a late teen and I really enjoyed the theme behind it, the settting and the overall topics being adressed. After a couple years, or maybe even recently, i don't quite remember, I noticed that there was another season out and I started watching it, bc I thought about how much I liked S1. I turned the show off, after a couple episodes. Not necessarily because I thought the second season was bad, but because I thought that I might misremember how good the first season was. Watching this video now made me realise that I do not misremember the first season at all. Very well made video!
Damn man you have been pumping out these deep introspective videos with philosophy that my caveman meat brain would not pick up on watching normally. Thanks for all the work you put into these brother!
Awesome video, my first video from you and I must say the voice, the audio, the visuals, the audio cutting into the dominator firing. Perfect, and it allows me to revisit this years later.
The first matrix I designed was quite naturally perfect, it was a work of art, flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure. The inevitability of its doom is as apparent to me now as a consequence of the imperfection inherent in every human being, thus I redesigned it based on your history to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your nature. However, I was again frustrated by failure. I have since come to understand that the answer eluded me because it required a lesser mind, or perhaps a mind less bound by the parameters of perfection.
13:28 Depriving* Also "anonymity" not "anomaninity" Edit: While you figured out how to pronounce "bureau," you still get "tyranny" wrong. "TEER-anny," not "TIE-ranny."
first of all, well done! i've seen plenty a psycho pass vid but none have been able to hone in on a core facet of the series as a whole: this is about society, told through the lens of a diverse cast of characters (not necessarily racially diverse- you only get that post s1 but i think you know what i mean). i truly appreciate that you had dug properly into the lore of the show (bec we all know they're not generally available!), the fact that you were able to paint a picture of what actually led to the creation of the sibyl system and the intentions behind it ✨chef kiss✨ , you've done a service here, sir, especially for those who find PP a little too intimidating and niche (and adult, because thank god it is 😉). one of my favorite parts is when you questioned the systems/structures that currently exist in our society and how it's not that simple to just undo or topple these foundations - a lot of people leave PP1 concluding with the easy answer: sibyl is evil, we must destroy sibyl. it's the kind of thing that is sometimes a testament to how an audience can empathize with such characters that it's easy to lock in on their perspectives and side with them, in the same vein that many do not actually end up liking characters like akane compared to that of kogami and makishima. that said, i feel like to only focus on characters and not the world is a great misstep in appreciating this series as a whole. i think many who tend to criticize anything after s1 fall into the trap of comparing it (both characters and plot) to PP1 - when that's not what the show is trying to do. if you are very much interested, i encourage (challenge 😉) you to "make sense" of all the iterations of psycho pass, and i can guarantee you that you'll be rewarded with the same kind of introspection and depth that it offers, especially because, like the world we're living in, the world of psycho pass has since evolved too. not only is this series ahead of its time, but it remains relevant the older it gets, and i think you would do the show a great service and open it up further to many more fans. cheers!
I love these videos, not only because they introduce me to such awesome anime but also because when I have watched said anime before, these deep dives pick up things I didn't even consider on my first watch
Fantastic video. I really like how you actually highlighted that the Sybll system is not just about justice, but about making society stable. That's what sets the protagonist apart from the system.
I still don't understand why the gun had to make people explode. You'd think that with their level of technology they could've designed something that does the job more cleanly.
Great video, Psycho pass is a bit of a hidden gem in that it appears silly but is actually quite deep and an excellent series. Strangely enough I have been recently thinking about some of these big societal issues, crime and the tyranny required to manage safety.
It’s always comes down to same thing when discussing society (which we live in one btw) is who decides what’s wrong or right. Perhaps we cannot be trusted as individuals for future of human race or we have freedom but for shorter period of time. Not both.
banger video as always. I didn't rlly understand the story when i first watched the anime. found it boring. But i finished it at the end. I find that these videos make the story more digestible
"If you are quick to dismiss this fictitious system." You hand wave *fictional* away as if it's insignificant. That's foolish. Our current systems, flaws included, have been formed, tested and even found wanting by *reality*
Just watched FLCL a few days ago on stumbled upon your channel and god is it good. I'd love to hear your take on the anime Sonny Boy ( and if case you haven't watched it yet, can't recommend it enough ! )
While I agree that dismantling Sybil completely would be disastrous, a lot of people overlook just how twisted the system is. It’s implied that people are labeled latent just for same sex attraction. Kagari is labeled latent at 6, when we know that a child’s brain isn’t anywhere nearly fully developed enough for such judgement. Not to mention that one traumatic experience can push your coefficient over the edge.
I wonder how many more movies will be made for it or seasons? Also no one seems to talk about Mandatory Happiness VN...even now since it's release years ago
During this entire video, I thought Psycho Pass had the perfect ending, and I didn't know there was a season 2. I might watch it just to see, but I believed I would be extremely disappointed. My main comment is the fact that I know my crime coefficient would be extremely high, since my mental health is pretty piss poor. And trying to put myself into the shoes of Kunizuka and Kagari, made me really consider: would I be okay with what Sbyl judged of me, and if so, would I be okay with where I would end up (more or less likely as an enforcer, given my limited knowledge of the system). But then I thought of, if my crime coefficient would end up being so high in the first case. Could Sybl have had a prenotion I could've had a higher crime coefficient at some point, theoretically then getting put into mental rehabilitation faster? Would have I then led a more fulfilling life if so? I wouldn't have gotten together with my husband, and I wouldn't have connected with many of my friends. Some part of our relationships are our shared struggles, so if those disappeared, am I okay with that? I think my answer- simplified, is I don't know. I'm glad I watched this anime, and this is why it is one of my all time favorites.
As a kid my first anime was Code Geas then Death Note. Watching Psycho-Pass after those 2 completely f-d my standards in anime. Other anime seem to be like brainrot tbh. IMO only few can match up to the story and writing of those 3.
I always enjoyed examining the idea of the utilitarian deterministic society they present, but nihilism as its confounder, especially as dangerously close to Shadow the Hedgehog edgy as Makishima, always struck me as a bit of a miss.
The motivation behind the school girl killer dosn't make sense at all. Yeah they are though how to be house wifes and all but what is wrong with that? Like they could have chosen a different school and even if not they still have classes in that one do they still can work their ass of and go to university or what ever they have in Japan. Like this is such a none problem because being a wife is nothing wrong. The school dosn't stop them from learning and becoming selfreliable and even if it did they don't have to go to that school and can go to another. This here is some nonsense.
Did you like the other seasons of Psycho Pass or do you wish it ended after the first?
I liked the other seasons, but it really should've ended with the first
The only thing I liked about season 2 is more Akane. I was so ready to see more of her as she was such a good female protag for S1. The rest of it just meh. The movie too.
Both, could’ve been fleshed out better. Movies weren’t bad
The movie's storyline should've been the second season IMHO
Movies were good, second season was good in theory but probably could've remained more on task (ie: focus more on the idea of judging a group of people as worse than the sum of their parts). Third season needed a bit more time in the oven, too much change to quickly.

just season 1, I don't like the others they lose the philosophical charm
@@socksensei agreed!
@@socksenseiYeah, it definitely falters post S1. Different showrunner with different motivations, I believe. Never read Bentham perhaps haha😅

You have put me onto multiple animes i have yet to see and everyone I've ended up watching has been great. Thanks sensei!
