hii phill.. so my friend and i have been really huge fans of yours since forever, and if you would.. you know..add me? it would really make me 3 bajillion times happier (:
Actually yes, thanks for quoting it. I couldn't get what he was saying due to his accent and it was highly bothering me. (My english is a bit shit too)
amazing job Bertie! I'll be more specific next time I see you but I loved this :) didn't feel like 13 minutes at all. really well performed, nicely shot. Great fun!
I remember watching this 3 years ago and becoming obsessed with film-making. Fast forward to now I have different interests but still find myself feeling the same inspiration from this film. Considering taking an intro to production class because why not.
I like how poncho Milo progresses through different states of zipped-up-ness. It seemed that when Milo was more closed to the outside world the poncho was zipped up tighter.
I thought the song playing at the beginning and end was amazing so I looked up Charles Manson and watched a couple documentaries... its past midnight and I'm scared help (this short film is absolutely gorgeous though)
Other than a few logistical things, I thought this was fantastic short film Bertie. This just goes to showcase your amazing taste in visuals, structure, design, and many other aspects of film. I can't even imagine the kinds of awesome stuff you'll be pumping out in the future.
There is so much to praise about this film that I might wind up with a very long comment. I'll start with the music. A strange and haunting tune with a very fraught origin. It's used so well. The pacing is confident. The story is clever. The look perfect. How could a film with multipe Berties not be charming and wonderful. Looking forward to the second Bertie Gilbert film. And the third. And many more.
I'm struggling to believe that this was November 2013, I remember how much I loved it when it first came out... still just as good 2 and a bit years on
Hey Bertie! This is Xander! I already complimented you on Twitter, but just thought I'd drop by and congratulate you again on this masterpiece! It was so visually appealing and really made me think about how I will choose to direct my short films in the future! The story was basic, which gave me a chance to feel all the emotion that Milo was feeling. P.S. The idea to have Milo wear a wolf mask, so the two of you could be on camera was genius. Fit perfectly into the script! Again, great job! - Xander (XanderFlicks)
I love this film so much. I have seen all of your films, bertie, but I always come back to this one. it makes me laugh, while still being borderline deep. it astounds me how simple yet brilliantly tied in the plot is. not only is it easy to watch, but it is thought provoking and beautiful all the same.
Bertie, I was SO impressed with this. This was way beyond what I expected--very insightful, and the simplicity of it as well was just amazing. Brilliant work.
Oooooh so well done Bertie! Thank you for being on youtube and actually making genuine and ambitious things. You inspire me a lot !!! Also the soundtrack rules so much!! \m/
The lights and sound is beautiful, the acting is amazing, and the plot is great. I've already watched this several times, and i love it so much. You're truly an inspiration, Bertie.
I remember this when you first released this, and is probably to this day my second favorite film to your latest "let it be" . Still completely captivated by the dry humor and the eerie music of Charles Manson. Brilliant Bertie, really brilliant.
This is soooo clever! I love how when your friend is talking at the beginning, it links to when you punch him with the mask on xxx :D And at the end when you first find out about the time machine working!
I tink it's really interesting to go back and watch these older things. You can really tell how you've grown, not only as a storyteller, but also as an actor :)
This is brilliant! I know that all videos on UA-cam can't be this good, or this high of quality, but this is the kind of thing that I like seeing on UA-cam. I love watching the result of passion and a true flair for film on UA-cam.
Wow your acting has really improved in the past several years, looking back at this and then ahead through the years, its cool to see how both your writing and acting has gotten better and better!
I loved this. Just the way it is, I see a lot of comments saying that the story needed more, But I think it was just right. I really appreciate the simplicity of it, but with still a good meaning. Hope you make more in the future :)
Wow. I just re-watched this and appreciate it _way_ more than the first time. It's actually inspired me to make a short film :) Hard to believe we're in the same year at school/college, seeing as you've made this masterpiece. So incredible.
This short film made me realize something very important about myself and the situation I've been in for the passed year.. Thank you so much, Bertie. Really.. Thank you.
i'm going to start this comment with some compliments: the music made this film. the camera work was wonderful and there were sentences and exchanges that made me smile ("well, she's a busy girl." "yeah, obviously she couldn't fit millisecond of speech in her hectic schedule." AND "maybe i'll start smoking." (this one made me laugh so hard because i was smoking a cigarette while watching this)) and other ones were SO strong ("a month, we were only together for a month." AND "i was abandoned, i was ditched by the road - like a dog - a stray dog.") but now, here comes my criticism: those sentences that caught me were surrounded by ones that were weak. there were sentences that were supposed to be funny but just fell short. every time the film cut to "six months earlier" or "two months later," i felt like i was watching a college student's very first film. i've been watching your videos for ages and i know that you have a lot going on for you. like ***** said, "you have the potential to do so much more." and i understand that this is your first official short film, but i think you're going to do some really great things that will blow this film away.
The way you write makes my brain whir in a peculiarly pleasant fashion. The story is poignant, compact, well-designed-- and beautifully shot. After I watched it the first time, I had to go back and watch it again. And again. Thought-provoking shit- I know I haven't picked up on everything you've poured into this. I kept getting Wes Anderson vibes, but in a fashion that's so completely yours, and IT WAS AWESOME. From one stupid young creator to another, damn fine job. So don't stop creating, Bertie. This is just the beginning, isn't it?
this is such a lovely comment. Thank you so much. It's great to hear intelligent and thoughtful responses so thank you again for that. And no, I have already started work on the next one!
My favorite shot is at 5:32 when Other Milo walks in front of the camera and you see his reflection in Bertie's glasses. Not sure why, but it caught my eye (no bad rhyme or pun intended). The one of Milo alone at the bench right before it is beautiful too. I have so much respect for your talent as a filmmaker, Bertie. I rarely comment but I felt I had to express how awesome I think this is. The music and sound design were spot on too. I can't wait to see what comes next!
That was brilliant and so creative. You have so much talent, Bertie. I hope you never stop making these kinds of masterpieces because I know I'm going to watch each and every one that you make. And you're going to make something better each time, I know it. Incredible job you've done here. :)
Well done Bertie you done a great job, it's funny, it's smart, it's just brilliant! I truly believe you will be directing major movies someday and I'll be like oh yeah Bertie Gilbert he's an awesome guy
Watched it again, a month later, just 'cause it's brilliant! Well done again Bertie, such great quality. The soundtrack is particularly well chosen, it really helps in creating the atmosphere of the film. I'm looking forward to the next film!
I've watched this about a million times and each time I do, I never fail to enjoy myself. The story really does make you think and the music perfectly fits the film. The thing I enjoyed the most is the cinematography, I'm a sucker for that. And god, okay, this made me want to do better, as strange as that may sound. Or, like, your general love for filmmaking and your passion and motivation is such an inspiration for me. I wanna make films, just like you and this made me want to start as soon as possible. So thanks for that, Bertie.
this is one of the best films that is on the internet. It is artistic, stylish, funny, clever and precise. It reminds me of the style of Wes Anderson, which isn't a bad thing. This is very good, keep up the good work.
Ahh brilliant. I was looking forward to this, you and your crew did not disappoint. Look forward to any future ones. The last three scenes were the best.
All I have is praise for you. This is a brilliant film -- the story, the filming, the music. You have a lovely, bright future ahead of you, Bertie. I cannot wait to see more, if that is what you decide to do. You will always have my support and admiration.
I keep coming back and watching this film. It's so insanely well-made. It has the exact feeling that I personally look for in a movie. You'll go far, Bertie. Well done.
my biggest problem with this is the fact when Ryan had a nose bleed he kept tilting his head back, bad Bertie! Other than that this is such a great short film, well done!
I spent the whole film trying to work out some artsy significance of the yellow waterproof being up on Milo's head, right at the front, or completely down... Because according to my GCSE English THERE MUST BE ONE
While watching this, i said "oh my god he chanced so much" , im kinda feel like your mom because i proud of you so much. İm watcing you since 2011 and i know you always wanted to be like that. Wanted to do stuffs like that includes your imagination. After watching this i watched 10,000 subscribers video and ironically there was a copy of you from the future too, that was weardly funny. And i want you to know that you are my inspiration. Cause i always use my imagination to everything even if i dont want, but when it comes to the writing that things down, im just paralyzing. And thanks to you i started a new story after i watched this. Thank you million times. Never give up okay. "Love you"
That was the BEST short film I've ever seen. You truly are amazing, Bertie! You are just so mature, handsome, and just brilliant! Great job. Please continue to do more videos like this one. :)
i loved this so much woah when i saw him listening to the guy when he had the mask i was like OH MY GOD GUY WITH MASK- PUNCH- IT MAKES SENSE. anyways amazing job bertie!!! :)
Gee, Bertie. Fantastic film. Such vision. How did you accomplish this so young? Lol love the use of Charlie Manson's music in the opening, it is actually a fantastic song despite the fact it was created by someone so disturbing. Thank you for being continuous inspiration to me to actually not just dream, but to actively chase those dreams!
Quite impressive for a first film! the visuals were really good. In terms of story, the concept was interesting, and the dialogue good too, but it still could've used some work. I don't doubt you'll work on that for your next piece...keep up the good work + you guys NEED to release a behind the scenes for this!
I really like this short film, it has a topic everyone knows, if it's from books or himself. But the whole time traveling made it interesting and you acted great. I was actually sad when the film was over. Good job!
This has inspired me so much to do what I want to do and finish my media studies and go do what I love at A-Level, honestly it had me speechless to think someone just one year older than me is capable of such amazing things. I love the way you filmed this, reminded me alot of some of my favorite films like drive and shame I just loved how simplistic it was but yet such a stylish film based on such a simple and relative thing, love it! Can't wait to see what you do next, might get even more inspired!
Instead of fangirling like every single other comment on this video I thought I would give you some actual constructive feedback. The film is good and I really enjoyed it over all I though the plot and the script where well developed for the most part. I have some issues with the ending due to the fact that you basically tell the audience what the message of the film out instead of letting them figure it out themselves. The soundtrack was great. The cinematography was a bit odd; at times I found it to be really well done and well crafted (dialogue scenes in particular and when he is sitting on the bench) but at other times looks amateur (when he's walking through the woods) which sort of brought me out of the film and reminded me that I was just watching a youtube clip. The acting was alright on the whole, the dull sort of attitude of the character was brought across well but I didn't believe him at all when he was angry. Just a few things to consider for your next short. Very good for a first attempt though, loved the Wes Anderson vibe I got from it.
Ive thoughts long and hard about this, and I think its all been done in post, as in this was all filmed steady on tripods etc, and any movement has been added in post, very crafty but made the production value looks amazing.
I really loved the style of this short film. The end of the story really impressed me as I know how hard it is to end things like this. But you did it perfectly. I really proves at any age with a few helping hands you can achieve whatever you want. Truly impressed Bertie
This is actually amazing, I'm glad you made us wait so long for it because it created suspense! This is so so creative and you should definitely make more please
this was really great, but you definitely need to work on a few things. there was kind of a lack of symmetry of certain types of shots throughout the film. the cut down to the "time machine"/lighter on the floor was very nicely done, and very "wes anderson" which seems to be the inspiration, but it created a weird break in the style of the rest of the film, because it didnt seem to be mimicked anywhere else. Also of course the dialogue needed a bit of work to make it more realistic but that comes with it being your first film and you only being 16. I wasnt sure if the slightly offbeat dialogue was a stylistic choice or just accidental. if it was stylistc that should be made more clear. Otherwise, this was really excellently done, interesting, poignant, and at times the banter was very funny. the story line was also very neat, clean, and well written. really excellent work overall!
Really great imagery, good job man. Seem some pretty decent critism/advice so I thought I'd add to it. Work on your writing, at times it was too forced and awkward, but this is your first one and it was pretty good so I'm excited to see what more you can bring to the table.
why the use of Charles Manson so much Bertie? Like its good music but seeing as he was a murderer the music kinda creeps me out, although music is meant to make you feel something, and it did, so well done. nice work! ^.^
This was great Bertie!! :D
ah thanks Phil! Means a lot, hope it was amazing ha ha funny times
a side ways gary is some one with there hair tilted to the left
well done gr8 work real good xox
well done bertie xox

"is love pathetic?"
"yes, if it's one sided"
Well quoted ;)
Actually yes, thanks for quoting it. I couldn't get what he was saying due to his accent and it was highly bothering me. (My english is a bit shit too)
mutual love can be pathetic as well. it numbs people.

Ikr! Like I'm 16 now and I wanna make short films but I've got no idea what to do or what I'd make one about lol
Katrina Warwick he was 1 6
Hannah Elizabeth wtf wtf wtf
he's younger than he looks
Seriously mate, that was so spot on. Favourite bit of dialogue was definitely:
"She said love you"
"Just love you? No I?"
"She was a busy girl"
god bless you Sammy. Definitely will enlist your help for the next project
+Bertie Gilbert this is my favourite interaction on UA-cam ever, bless you brilliant film makers :)
amazing job Bertie! I'll be more specific next time I see you but I loved this :) didn't feel like 13 minutes at all. really well performed, nicely shot. Great fun!
Ah, thanks Tim! Means a lot coming from you. I want to see you and the rest of the Project Library gang for a complementing session soon
"you have glasses now though"
"yeah"
only just noticed that let it be references this when Dodie talks about breaking up with a guy for his best friend.
"What? A month?"
"Three"
Iconic.
Jess Lambrini hahahahahahahahaha
"I'm not over her, I'm under her."
"What does that even mean?"
lol
Probably that he feels inferior. She had the guts to ditch him therefore she's the superior one, in his opinion.
I was just up to that part when I read that XD
I remember watching this 3 years ago and becoming obsessed with film-making. Fast forward to now I have different interests but still find myself feeling the same inspiration from this film. Considering taking an intro to production class because why not.
I like how poncho Milo progresses through different states of zipped-up-ness. It seemed that when Milo was more closed to the outside world the poncho was zipped up tighter.
"She's going to feel so bad once i'm done with her."
"It sounds like your going to attack her.."
"Just 'love you'? No 'I'?" "She was a busy girl."
I thought the song playing at the beginning and end was amazing so I looked up Charles Manson and watched a couple documentaries... its past midnight and I'm scared help (this short film is absolutely gorgeous though)
LITERALLY JUST TIME TRAVELLED BY WATCHING THIS IN 2019 WOW. The NOSTALGIA
God, how lovely! I enjoyed this from start to finish, it's beautiful and funny and clever. Once again, I can NOT believe you're only sixteen.
Tom! Only just seen this. Thanks so much, friend. I adore organs so much
Omg he's only 16??!!
oh wait... this has in 2013 nvm
Other than a few logistical things, I thought this was fantastic short film Bertie. This just goes to showcase your amazing taste in visuals, structure, design, and many other aspects of film. I can't even imagine the kinds of awesome stuff you'll be pumping out in the future.
Seriously he is 16 and can make short films like this, inspiration.
I can never tire of Bertie's films.
- Xander (XanderFlicks)
i think these films are absolutely beautiful. they deserve more attention then granted.
I love this. The title is stray dog which is a metaphor for milo. But the first shot is a wolf mask (dog) abandoned on the ground
'I just fucking hate all of my best friends in the whole world!'
I can relate sometimes...

Izzy Cooper parafamily
I tink it's really interesting to go back and watch these older things. You can really tell how you've grown, not only as a storyteller, but also as an actor :)
I have these kind of conversations with myself ALL THE TIME! I don't ever see a version of myself but I'm so glad I'm not the only one.
This is brilliant! I know that all videos on UA-cam can't be this good, or this high of quality, but this is the kind of thing that I like seeing on UA-cam. I love watching the result of passion and a true flair for film on UA-cam.

"no, i'm gonna light up a fat zoot." i had to stop the video because i was laughing so hard
'not in a gay way, in a fantastic way'
ugh
Really.. Thank you.
i'm going to start this comment with some compliments:
the music made this film. the camera work was wonderful and there were sentences and exchanges that made me smile ("well, she's a busy girl." "yeah, obviously she couldn't fit millisecond of speech in her hectic schedule." AND "maybe i'll start smoking." (this one made me laugh so hard because i was smoking a cigarette while watching this)) and other ones were SO strong ("a month, we were only together for a month." this situation is similar to the one that the girl stated in "the 56 year old boy": " I once dated a boy I left for his best friend"
The way you write makes my brain whir in a peculiarly pleasant fashion. The story is poignant, compact, well-designed-- and beautifully shot. i like to come back here every so often to be reminded of simpler times
Good stuff man, look forward to seeing your next bit of work! x
That was brilliant and so creative. You have so much talent, Bertie. I hope you never stop making these kinds of masterpieces because I know I'm going to watch each and every one that you make. And you're going to make something better each time, I know it. Incredible job you've done here. :)
PLEASE explain it to me i feel like I can't comprehend the genius or something and i want to know!!

I've watched this 3 times. Bertie what are you doing to me >_< lol
You are fantastic, your brain is fantastic, keep doing what you are good at.
Gonna start counting how many times bertie says "I mean"
Cant wait to see you and your name on the big screen, Bertie! You really do have talent, this was sooo good.
this is one of the best films that is on the internet. It is artistic, stylish, funny, clever and precise. It reminds me of the style of Wes Anderson, which isn't a bad thing. This is very good, keep up the good work.
WOW. Too good for a first film... Everything was into place: music, script, photography, acting... Amazing work Bertie, congrats. Much love Xx
i love the use of 1 month three month thing reoccurring in your films
I thought this was so well done :) Love your style!
Bertie: Like a stray dog
Me: oooOOOOO THATS THE TITLE 😮
This is amazing, it's in my favourites. Respect to you Bertie. My favourite line was "we were together for a month, just a month"
You cant get any better than this
Short films are soo much better. They make you think more... Especially berties!!
Ahh brilliant. I was looking forward to this, you and your crew did not disappoint. Look forward to any future ones. The last three scenes were the best.
i love the choice of music
Has anybody ever told you that you bear a striking resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe?
yes
It's a drarry child
RiGht
YES
he was actually in harry potter and the deathly hallows pt 2 as Draco's son :)
That helps to stop the bleeding
but thats what your meant to do?
+M. M. You're supposed to tilt your head forward.
Yeah. Tilting your head back makes you swallow a ton of blood, then you might throw up. I would know...
good job bertie, very nice indeed!
I spent the whole film trying to work out some artsy significance of the yellow waterproof being up on Milo's head, right at the front, or completely down... Because according to my GCSE English THERE MUST BE ONE
IDK, I just thought he was dressed as Walter from Breaking Bad at the Halloween party, right?

"Love you"
That was the BEST short film I've ever seen.
I had the exact same reaction!! xD Bertie's amazing!!
Gee, Bertie. Fantastic film. Such vision. How did you accomplish this so young? OMG this is soooo good. I want to make a short film now! Thanks for this awesome short film it brightened my day!
I really like this short film, it has a topic everyone knows, if it's from books or himself.
But the whole time traveling made it interesting and you acted great. I was actually sad when the film was over.
Good job!
the mask made me think of Donnie Darko hah!
Very well done x
What font is used in Bertie's shorts ? Does anyone know it would be really helpful if you could take the time to answer.
This was absolutely brilliant! Well done!
This was too good. The cinematography was soo aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Great great work. Can't wait to see ur next short.
This has inspired me so much to do what I want to do and finish my media studies and go do what I love at A-Level, honestly it had me speechless to think someone just one year older than me is capable of such amazing things. Very good for a first attempt though, loved the Wes Anderson vibe I got from it.
how did you clone with unsteably shots?
Ive thoughts long and hard about this, and I think its all been done in post, as in this was all filmed steady on tripods etc, and any movement has been added in post, very crafty but made the production value looks amazing.
yes i knowi found a way on after effects :)
girlwith acamera yeah its "wiggle" or something right?
I really loved the style of this short film. The end of the story really impressed me as I know how hard it is to end things like this. But you did it perfectly. I really proves at any age with a few helping hands you can achieve whatever you want. Truly impressed Bertie
This is actually amazing, I'm glad you made us wait so long for it because it created suspense! This is so so creative and you should definitely make more please
that was well done, bertie. excited to see what you come up with in the future.
this was really great, but you definitely need to work on a few things. there was kind of a lack of symmetry of certain types of shots throughout the film. the cut down to the "time machine"/lighter on the floor was very nicely done, and very "wes anderson" which seems to be the inspiration, but it created a weird break in the style of the rest of the film, because it didnt seem to be mimicked anywhere else.
Imagine being 16 and having a sound technician and director of cinematography to help you make a film. He's done so well for himself I'm so jealous
oh my god you started off freaking amazing and still have improved so so so much
why the use of Charles Manson so much Bertie? Like its good music but seeing as he was a murderer the music kinda creeps me out, although music is meant to make you feel something, and it did, so well done. nice work! ^.^
its supposed to creep you out on purpose.
I really want to be a part of an amazing short film like one of these sometime in my life.
Lovely film. I really like your mind.
The camera angles are beautifully used and Bertie your acting is amazing...this has to be my favorite short film I have seen
