    Hello! Yes, "Chapultepec" in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs which is still spoken in Mexico, it means "grasshoper hill" because the area where the parks stands now, it used to have this hill that was populated by all these grasshoppers. It was considered a sacred area to the Aztecs.

    • @with_krista
      @with_krista  2 роки тому

      Oh I love that! I could only imagine the amount of grasshoppers that were there during the time!

    *The Chapultepec Castle was where Mexico Military Academy sat during the USA invasion of Mexico. It was the last bastion where the cadets made a last stand.*

    I loved your vlog, looked like a big couple of days getting around. I appreciated that you went back to the Castle the next day, it looked lovely and I suppose there was a lot to see and cover. I would like to know if they have dedicated food markets and night markets? I know I saw them in the park but wondered if there were others. I'd like to see them if you get the opportunity to. Well done!!
    Love the bloopers at the end too.

    Fun fact: The "Angel" is actually Nike, greek goddess of victory, and it was erected (1910) by President Diaz to commemorate the centenary of mexican independence; it seems that it was chosen after being seen at the louvre museum in Paris on many of Díaz travels to the City since he was fascinated with french culture/architecture. That's why you can see a little bit of french Influence on some areas of CDMX, just like "Paseo de la Reforma" where the monument is placed and that was also modeled after Champs-Élyses in París.
    Sorry that was long... Anyway such a great video!!! :D

    Chapultepec means Grass hopper hill, by the trail to go up to the castle, a little bit before the ticket house to the left, there is an Aztec rock with inscriptions very interesting (next time you go) but ids hidden you have to search for it, is just in the side of the hill

    En el siglo XIX mucha gente estadounidense llegó a vivír al estado de Texas que en ese entonces pertenecía a México. Al paso de los años la gente estadounidense se hizo tan fuerte en Texas que fueron ellos quienes pidieron independizarse de México para unirse a USA. Para la poblacion mexicana que vivía en Texas ellos no pasaron la frontera, la frontera los pasó a ellos. Hoy mucha gente estadounidense llega a la CDMX a vivír por lo que sería bueno preguntar y estar pendientes, a la CDMX le pasará lo mismo que a Texas? No olvidemos que gente estadounidense ya antes se ha apropiado de playas mexicanas y tratado d expulsar a la poblacion mexicana de esos lugares. Existen cosas que no debieron suceder.

    There are so many Americans from the north now in Mexico City. And almost no one does the effort to learn and speak the language. City, country, culture - it’s only scenery to them.
