  • How To Play The Card Game Flinch.
    Please note these are the '78 rules..minor changes may have been made to more recent versions.
    Flinch is played with a deck of 150 cards numbered 1-15. Players are allowed to play cards in sequence (building up from 1 to 15) to piles formed in the center of the table. "1" cards must be played to start the piles, but others may be played or held at the player's discretion. Cards may be played from a number of sources: a player's hand (five cards to start), a player's "game pile" (a stack of 10 cards of which only the top card is face up and playable), or a player's "reserve piles" (whenever a player passes or completes a turn, they must add a card from their hand to their reserve piles - up to five reserve piles may be formed). Hands are continually replenished with new sets of five cards during the game. The object is to play all 10 cards from game pile to the center of the table.

    Thank you for taking the time to make a video! I kept reading the rules trying to understand the rules that differ from Skip-bo. Now that I've watched this the it makes sense now. I also realized why they want you to stack the draw cards like that. I was confused by that. We are going to play tonight!

    I've had a 1938 edition of this game for 10 years and never had the patience to learn it. My wife and I watched your video and now it's our favorite game! What first brought me to your page was O'NO99. Lol. Keep up the great videos!

      2020 Update: The 80's version from Parker Brothers went only to 10, not 15. I found it recently at a thrift store. It's nice for a quick game but my wife and I prefer the classic 15. Flinch is still our favorite card game!

    Thank you for the explanation of this game. I volunteer at a local juvenile prison and wanted to learn a new game to share with the kids. Seeing it played on the video makes for an easy way to learn fast.

    Thankyou for the easy instructions. My grandfather had a set of flinch cards but he was never able to teach anyone how to play them so when he died when my dad was young, Dad had the cards but they just sat there because no one could play the game. We will finally be able to figure out how to play it now.

    Thanks for the video, it cleared up some "not sure"s I had. I still have more tho:
    1-Is there a limit to play piles or does it just depend on how many ones are drawn?
    2-Can you discard more than one card in a turn?
    Thanks again

    • @Dennis.B7
      @Dennis.B7 3 місяці тому

      First ; for your first question , no , no limit
      second ; No , just one card at the time when it is your turn ..
      PS : If you know how to play Skip-Bo , the rules are the same excepted that the flinch game , you're in the obligation to play your card number 1 if you have one in your hand , otherwise , you pas your turn and the next player plays his turn ...

    This is slightly different from how we play. We don't lay down all 5 cards on the first play if we don't have a 1, only discard one card and continue play.
    I'm sure we've modified the rules to our liking... lol. This seems like an older version of the game, did it come with a holder for the 5 card stacks so they don't slide around? We have a version from the 70's that has a red plastic x shaped holder but the newer games of flinch don't include the holder.

      Well , that is better to play the real rules ... That's why i don't like to play with people who change the rules... so , playing the real rules is better .

    Interesesting. Reminds me quite a bit of Spite & Malice, must be where this game came from. Saw Flinch at a goodwill for $1, love the vintage design, but unsure if I can already play Spite with regular playing cards.
    Do you only draw when you run out?

    Hi there, I have no basis for this card game - I am simply doing research about vintage card games at the turn of the century - other than chess. :) I have a couple questions: 1. The discard pile(s): up to 5 "places" including your additional stack? 2. When you discard, I noticed that you discarded a 6 on an 8... are there no rules for the stacking of the discard pile(s)? Thanks so much!

    • @Dennis.B7
      @Dennis.B7 3 місяці тому

      1 - Yes , only 5 cards for the ' discard piles , and ,, you do not count your additional stack , the ' discard piles are just put beside of your additional stack.
      2 - The best when you discard is ; When you remove a card from your hand, if you have a 12, put it on the table, then, when it is your turn, you can place the 11 next to the 12 and so on. Never discard a 5 or a 6 or whatever, on a twelve or an 11....it is preferable to discard a 12 on a 12, an 11 on an 11 and so on up to 5 discarding piles ...

    If you play all your hand cards on your turn do you draw 5 more and continue or is your turn over?

    • @Dennis.B7
      @Dennis.B7 3 місяці тому

      You take 5 more and play as long as you can. Otherwise, you discard a card from your hand.

    How many play piles do you have?? Skip Bo has 4 play piles and 4 discard piles

  • @robertclark4929

    How many building piles are allowed? Skip Bo uses 4.

    Can you play numerically up or down after the 1 & 2 has been played? For example, after the 5 is played can the opponent continue by playing the 4 and freeing up another space for a discard pile?

    I astarted playing flinch when I was five years old with my grandfather and his friends.
    He used to show me off to his buds because I was kind of a quick thinker even as a little girl.
