I completely agree that these vulnerable children were experimented on. If a child doesn’t feel comfortable in their gender, medical professionals shouldn’t be prescribing puberty blockers, that can cause irreversible damage, without clinical trials showing positive outcomes for an extended period of time.

It reminds me of how we look back in horror at how people were treated in mental institutions years ago - electroshock therapy for minor problems or even the social problems of the day - and now, looking back, we are rightly appalled. If future generations have any sense they'll look back on this episode with a similar disbelief - "how could we have done that to children!"

I'm coming up to my 64th birthday later this month and have never met anyone during my formative years who had gender dysphoria. I had gay friends, both male and female which i instinctively knew were who they were and it never bothered me, even though i was brought up by fairly straightlaced Scottish parents in the 1960s and 70s. This current issue i feel is created by powers known or unknown, to genetically modify western society.... 😮
People should absolutely be angry about this! We were bullied by an ideology that the medical field bowed down to. I am so glad that these reports are out, and that people are realising what has been done to these young and vulnerable people. This one hits close to home for me, and I am so thankful that I am a hardheaded stubborn woman who told my child not until you are an adult and can make your own decisions. Here is the result of cutting funding on mental health services. WHY was there not more access to counseling and medical assessment? Lack of funding. Not ideology. These were very vulnerable teens. I took a suicidal teen to the hospital and they told me to go home. My friend’s son ended up killing himself the next day. Disgraceful how austerity has impacted and neglected the UK population’s mental health.

I am reading Kathleen Stock's book - why reality matters. Point and case - puberty is a biological necessity - man or woman! Shocking this was allowed. I am all for trans-rights but puberty blockers were not the answer.
But the question we are not considering is why were trials not done and why wasn’t funding dedicated to research on this medication. Puberty blockers are not a brand new thing, they have been around for decades so there could have been in depth data gathered on this by now.
It's a combination of the 'why would the industry pay vast amounts for a study that would undermine their incredibly lucrative business?' - and the 'you can't find what you don't look for' paradigms. Science on Vitamin D supplementation has been a victim of this for decades - nothing to gain, and a LOT to lose (if there are general improvements in people's health). Certain high profile "prophylactic" medications have also seen this in SPADES. The independent science is extremely revealing. Scandalous.

It’s important to point out that the whole point of puberty blockers (which are unsafe and risky-absolutely) was to give a gender dysphoric young person “breathing space” to really think about whether or not they want to go through transition or their natural puberty, obviously hoping that they’ed choose the latter because these places are not supportive of medical transitioning. To argue they are is a joke. It would be much safer and more sensible to just prescribe actual HRT (hormone replacement therapy), which are far less risky, to certain types of gender dysphoric young people AFTER the onset of puberty, such as homosexual males whose gender dysphosia persists after the onset of puberty for instance. As all studies show these don’t desist or detransition (if the dysphoria persists after puberty has begun.)
Its amazing that they have to read out the disclaimer even though what they are reporting on is that there is basically no evidence for any of this treatment working! They need to state that even though they are reporting on this that they are still on "team children can be trans too". Its honestly like a religion. No matter what you think or feel, you can't change that fact, and trans kids deserve the right care. And that 'right care' is not going to be acting like they're mad or they don't exist.

No one knows is the point. Theres simply not enough research in the context of gender questioning children to safely prescribe them on the scale they have been
