Oh, that villain with empty, non-flinching, cold stare and a voice of a poet! Quiet, composed, ever observant & alert... and he met his death just the way he lived, calmly and totally aware (unlike his hysterical master).
I LOVE Tony Oliver’s performance. I love him as my, Pretty Pretty Minato. So I think I might download all of the episodes where Ulquiorra is in and just edit out all the scenes where he’s not talking. Cause’ I could definitely use his voice for video purposes. I mean, I’m planning on making a series about "What If Minato Namikaze was evil?"
Ulquiorra doesn't know how to properly react to a lot of things and he represents void. That's why his instincts doesn't understand humans. He was curious, but he's also kind of ignorant on how humans operate in a dangerous way since he's so strong. He's like; "why would you risk yourself to save your friend. He's weak that's why he can't survive, that's how thinks are" lol I mean he's very smart, but some things doesn't make sense to him since he's not human. It was like he's studying how humans work. You'll notice it especially with his conversations with orihime. Poor dude doesn't even know where the heart really is both literally and figuratively. I think he was so obsessed in finding out how humans actually operate that he kinda became more human (as stated by ichigo) he actually learned that he kinda adapted how to be one without realizing it and it offended him when ichigo told him that. I think his fascination of humans are somehow similar in his fascination when he first saw the spiky tree in his background story. Humans are so strange for him that he was fascinated by it and the rest goes on until he finally understands in the end what a heart is. Beautifully written character imo
Gin and Ulquiorra's interactions were pure gold. If Aizen ever noticed them he must've chuckled a little bit knowing how the two of them would get under each other's skin 😂
Nah ulquiorra showing up when grimmjow said his name to ichigo and orihime before he had a chance to talk shit about ulquiorra will always be priceless lmao😂😂😂.
You can see that Tony was coming into his Ulquiorra’s voice in his later appearances. At the beginning, you could hear a bit of Rick Hunter or Lupin (name any other characters that Tony Oliver has voiced that you felt you have heard) in his voice but later on, while his voice isn’t as deep as Daisuke’s take on Ulquiorra, Tony’s Ulquiorra voice definitely sounds more deeper that it was at the start.
I like to imagine the part where Ulquiorra hides Segunda Etapa from Gin to take place MID BATTLE. Like, bro just hears someone talking about it, and dips for about five seconds to stop him from talking about it.
Ulquiorra to me really embodies the tragedy of hollowfication. To be a hollow is to be empty, to have a hole inside that can never be filled. All the Espada embody a different path to death, because Hollows are essentially spirits that could never be laid to rest, who are forced to endure with a crushing emptiness until they are finally purified and sent to the Soul Society to become someone entirely different. Each of the Espada has a yearning to them, something missing from their misbegotten lives that they can never find. Grimmjow wanted to dominate, but was surrounded by his betters. Nnoitra wanted to die in battle, but was born nearly indestructible. Starrk wanted companionship, but his power ensured he was always alone. Barragan wanted to stamp his name on history, but was ultimately a footnote to Aizen's war. All the Espada have something like this, but Ulquiorra is simultaneously both the odd one out and the obvious example of this trait. Ulquiorra is emptiness himself, devoid of emotions or any yearning whatsoever. For the majority of his time in Bleach he simply serves Aizen blindly, simply because he has no other purpose to fufill. Especially in the manga, he is singularly devoted to Aizen more than any other Espada, to the point where Aizen leaves the defense of Las Noches entirely in his hands. He is devoid of the longing the other Espada are plagued by, and seems to have some sense of pride in this fact. He simply exists and continues to exist for the sake of existence itself, with no purpose or desires beyond service. He is unable to lament or acknowledge his own emptiness, as to do so would be to acknowledge something is missing. And as Ulquiorra only believes in what his eyes can see as a materialist, he KNOWS there is nothing left to find. Other creatures are strange creatures, completely alien to Ulquiorra. However, the more Ulquiorra interacts with Orihime, the more he watches her rescuers, the more encounters he has with Ichigo Kurosaki... he begins to notice an absence. Something they possess which he doesn't. It isn't the yearning of an Espada, or the cold detachment of his Lord... it's a connection which links them across dimensions and despite betrayals and heartbreak. Their 'kokoro' or hearts are bound together. Ulquiorra spends most of the series testing this concept of a 'heart'. He manipulates Orihime to come to Hueco Mundo of her own accord to try and sow distrust between her and her friends, allows her to say goodbye and leave of her own volition to make her feel culpable herself and create barriers between her and the others. He repeatedly singles out Ichigo for death in order to see if Orihime will protect him, and accuses her of treachery when he hesitates to step in at first. He's eerily facinated by it, because THAT is his lack. Something he didn't realize he wanted until he saw it face to face. And he hates it, with a burning fury. To become a Vasto Lorde, you have to have consumed countless other hollows, enough to establish your own personality above the thousands of others consumed. Ulquiorra's first memory is of abject loneliness, wandering through a pale white desert filled with black monstrosities, lamenting his own pale whiteness that singles him out from other hollows. Upon becoming an Espada and finding purpose in serving Aizen, Ulquiorra believes this forgotten loneliness to have been removed, or possibly a figment of his imagination, but he never truly experienced a bond with any of his compatriots or even his Lord Aizen. When Ichigo continues to believe in Orihime, continues to fight him despite their glaring differences and refuses to face reality and accept he cannot win, Ulquiorra snaps (something that shouldn't be possible for him). Who is this boy to tell him he is empty? That he has something Ulquiorra has not, something worth fighting and dying for in the face of utter oblivion. No, he simply must be MADE to understand. And ultimately, Ichigo never does. He dies first. Except... the heart WAS real. Ichigo rises out of pure animalistic desire to protect his 'heart' (Orihime) and proceeds to overcome every factual limitation Ulquiorra saw in him. The heart overcame the body, so to speak, and Ulquiorra is defeated unceremoniously. Ulquiorra is forced to finally accept the truth: he is empty, there is something he lacks. And therefore, there is something he yearns for more than any other Espada. Where other espada might crave companionship, fame or immortality, Ulquiorra sought to be understood. To be able to leave his heart with something when he passed on, to share his heart with someone else. I would argue he did just that, whether he knew it or not. Ichigo himself forged his own bond with Ulquiorra, seeing him as more than an opponent to strike down, but a question to his will that must be defeated BY it. Ulquiorra's death at the hands of a mindless hollowfied Ichigo holds no merit to Ichigo, he sees it as a loss, an admission that Ulquiorra was right about him. Orihime confesses she isn't afraid of him anymore, and reaches out to take his hand before he fades away. The Espada that kidnapped a teenage girl, murdered a young boy twice and inflicted countless mental tortures on both... ended up being the most human of them all. And he died never knowing it. THAT is what it means to be a hollow, and why soul reapers exist in the world of bleach. Not to destroy them, but let them be at peace.
You know even though does a ton of trash talk he was very loyal and dedicated character and the fact that he didn't do anything harmful to hime the entire time except trash talk he has very secretly a good fellow. Honestly Ulquiorra is my favorite arrancar and I think he deserved to be Espada #1 with a basic power level equal to what regular Aizen would've been if his basic power level were 10x greater than Butterfly Aizen's but then gained hollowfication bankai then went full power
While Lord Aizen is 100x stronger than what a current Yamamoto would've been if he trained at 10 to 600x gravity then undergoes hollowfication then trains everyday for 1 year to master it then goes full power
Ulquiorra at basic power deserved to be equal to an Ichigo that gains 10 years prep and goes full power Years 1 - 4 : Regular Training Year 5 : Training at 10x gravity everyday for 1 year Year 6 : training at 20 to 100x gravity Year 7 : training at 110 to 300x gravity Year 8 : training at 310 to 600x gravity Year 9 : training at 610 to 1000x gravity Year 10 : Using the hyperbolic time chamber only once as his 10th and final year of training
Grimmjow as Espada #6 at basic power : 3000x stronger than what Jin Kariya was Nnoitra as Espada #5 at basic power : 3000x stronger than what a fully powered Ulquiorra was
How is Nnoitra more powerful than Ulquiorra? His Resurreciòn is one of the strongest among the Espada (up to the point that Aizen forbid the first three Espada to release in Las Noches) and his Segunda Etapa literally REMOVES his number. Ulquiorra was definitely the strongest Espada.
