The title is a pun on the name of Kitty Pryde, the youngest of the X-Men. The series for which this episode was intended to launch never materialized; Marvel Productions would have to go back to the drawing board for 1992’s X-Men.
The pilot was released on VHS but has not been released on DVD.

The irony of this short-lived series was that they gave Wolverine - a Canadian - a decidedly Australian accent, and years later it was Australian actor Hugh Jackman who was cast as Wolverine in the first 2000 movie, where Jackman used an American accent for his version of Wolverine.

i remember having a vhs cassette copy of this and this was my introduction to marvel, superheros,, and the xmen.
It was a shame this X-Men animated cartoon was not pick up as an animated series.
fathomflaw In a way it was cause this was the catalyst for the X-Men Animated Series in the 1990s.

This looked a million times better than the 90’s X-men. Both were awesome!!!

It was so different then the the comics, truly cheesy but we couldn't help but laugh & enjoy it!

Sad thing is, even if this cartoon got revived now for Disney Plus or something, no matter what they do, it wouldn’t be a fully realized version of what the show wanted to do simply because Stan Lee was the narrator.

About history of project. Marvel was planed long animated series, future series was spectacular project... But in 1989 year Marvel have serious financial problem. And from series come just pilot episode.
Which also resulted in a planned Spider-Man movie getting canned because of it.
Imagine writing a theme song that was rejected in favor of THIS.

Funny enough I have this on two VHS tapes. Obviously the Pryde of the X-Men VHS, but also a Marvel Matinee VHS as well.

I always heard "X-Man, expand, it's the day". I heard its supposed to be "X-Men, X-Men, Save the day" or something. I dunno, I can't hear it.

I know that it is saying "this is the day" but (and I am probably the only one) I SWEAR to god that during the chorus it is saying
"X-MEN XMEN fish in cage!"
What the heck "fish in a cage" has to do with the X-men I will never know.
I think they're saying: "Lives today! Lives today!"
This intro feels like it fits in the 60s era.
It feels like the equivalent to the “Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can” song
