  • Go Here to Download Your Book - www.myboxingcoach.com - The pivot is one of the most versatile skills that a boxer uses. These guided boxing drills are built around use of the pivot. These drills start simple and actually develop into some quite challenging sequences of boxing.
    Always remember that the pivot can be used as both an offensive and defensive skill. These boxing drills are executed from a static position.
    The boxing drills are 3 rounds of 2 minutes each round:
    Round 1
    Pivot left and pivot right
    Round 2
    Jab - pivot with the lead hand hook (1)
    Jab - pivot right - long back hand hook (2)
    Round 3
    Pivot left with lead hand uppercut - back hand hook (1)
    Pivot right - 2 lead hand hooks
    Take your time with these boxing drills. Each boxing skill must be executed well. Any errors in one skill will carry forward into the next skill, so be disciplined. Otherwise, get on and work your pivot based boxing drills
    Cheers
    Fran

    1:55 pivot (to left :back leg rt push front leg spin )
    Pivot to rt push off front leg lft leg
    Don't lean forward in any pivots
    Don't go flat footed
    5:20 pivot with long lead hand hook
    6:00 with jab hook works too☝️
    6:30 pivot to rt with jab cross
    8:55 another example on close range

    This is not only appliable for boxing, this is practical for knife combat and even fencing, no jokes, after all what is boxing, but a manifestation of what fencing is.

    I can't seem to connect my lower body(hip) rotation to my torso and shoulder for the hook punch,it's slow and weird,any tips?
    It's weird how in the vid how to throw a strong hook by Liam Harrison,there isn't any hip rotation yet his lead hook sounds like a round house kick to the heavy bag,in contrast Marvin Cook has an interesting way to land the short hook where a quick circular hip rotation is key while in a bladed stance(he calls it the true boxer's stance)
    The hook is just so confusing,what r ur thoughts for a beginner like me?

    Can you pls advise what the type of 2 bags hung behind ? Are the good for upper cut?

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  2 роки тому

      Yes. Angled Heavy Bags. They are better for uppercuts than a conventional heavy bag. The best bag for uppercuts is the maize bag

    Is it not better to take a small step before the pivot outside the shoulder to pivot left then take a small step outside the lead foot to pivot right orthodox to orthodox? Also take the head of the centre line?

    • @myboxingcoach
      @myboxingcoach  2 роки тому

      Yes you can do that Gerard, two skills. The orth to orth step out is for long range, at close range you just bulldoze the move. Nice variation though👍

    What do you say to the coaches who say the pivot is overrated and not necessary, because you never see the elite boxers use it?
    And I have to say that I struggle to find Mayweather, Canelo, Golovkin, Usyk ever pivot... same thing with the old timers like Robinson, Monzon, Leonard, Duran, etc.
