Thank you for the continued upload of these older races. I've been looking for at least some of these for quite some time. I eagerly await the next posting. Keep up the good work.
By the way, the John Paul Jr./Bob Akin incident occurred in 1985, not '86. Also, '86 was the only year IMSA used a chicane at Charlotte. In all previous runnings, they went into the (oval) Turn 3 banking at full chat.
Unfortunately the "Rovals" never worked to attract spectators in the grand stand. Sports car racing in Charlotte or Las Vegas (Which is also uploaded) just never worked, except the old IMSA GTP Series in the 80's.
They'd have to re-profile the ext from the infield, and move the chicane further up the back straight, to make the roval suitable now. Those bangs coming up onto the banking twice a lap are just too much.
it is the downforce and banking, similar to how the F1 tires blew at Indy. if it was flat it would not be a huge deal but the force is amplified with the banking and will cause the right side tires to go pop.
Well, IMSA will return to Charlotte in October with their GT Le Mans and GT Daytona classes (sorry, no prototypes). This special GT-only event replaces the one previously scheduled to run at Lime Rock Park, and that means IMSA will join the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series for an action-packed tripleheader weekend.
@@ElGato01 The WeatherTech Sports Car Championship race at the Charlotte Roval will air on NBCSN starting at 8 p.m. (Eastern time) on Saturday, October 10, with live flag-to-flag coverage.
Jeez, compared to the Nascar Roval race from last fall, this feels so empty without the colorful stuff around the actual infield and the walls.
thank you sooooo much for uploading. 1999 and 2000 were the best days of my childhood because of these ALMS races. This is the best!
S&M VERSION OF FUEL FOR THE INTRO GODDAMN
18 years later, NASCAR would revive the Charlotte roval
Absolutely superb action, thanks so much for uploading these early ALMS races!

YES THIS IS THE RACE I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!! I'VE BEEN DYING TO SEE THE R8R IN ACTION
31:45 What an odd looking restart.
33:46 That's such a tight chicane.
Thanks for all the uploads. We sportscar racing fans really appreciate it
Man I wish they could still run the prototypes at charlotte

But they're back
Yes, NASCAR at Charlotte Roval was a success, Pirelli GT World at Las Vegas Motor Speedway not so much. Same ghost town as it was with the ALMS
I was at the race it 2000. it still one of my all time fave races I been to
Bruh it looks like nobody was there
@@SamuelWilson615x there was people there. people was in NASCAR turn 1 and at the start finish line
You guys are really amazing, keep them coming!!!!
Damn allen bestwick and martin haven

They did that, and NASCAR is coming back!
the best race to ever at Lowes
The command as ONLY Chris Economacki could give it.
49:35 Blink 182 was THE band at this time.
Also, Please upload the 2003 Grand Prix Americas from the Bayfront Miami Street Course!
This was just before the start of the Audi dominance... cool.
How long ago was this?
Audi had not yet won Le Mans... ever!
But you're awesome man!!! I'm already subbed to you since a while hahaha
great video..really appreciate it!!
Do any series still compete on the Charlotte "roval" circuit?
possibly next year in NASCAR
And that was just confirmed today
And now they added a chicane to the Back stretch
BlacknRed81 and removed the hairpin turn
does anyone know why audi raced the R8R from 1999 in this race instead of the 2000 R8?
+bavarianbass Audi concentrated on winning Le Mans and they didn't want to take any chances of wrecking their latest model on a high-banked oval
53:49 'this nose is ugly!' An honest commentator
why the chicane , damn it man, would have been cool to have these beasts really stretch. Miss this series, wish BMW would have stayed a while
The announcer said that the tires would be destroyed with the downforce created at high speed by the prototypes. That seems weird to me though.
it is the downforce and banking, similar to how the F1 tires blew at Indy. if it was flat it would not be a huge deal but the force is amplified with the banking and will cause the right side tires to go pop.
Why doesn't IMSA race at Charlotte anymore.

@@josephconciatori9824 It's a one-time event, though. Not returning next year.
Holy shit, That backstretch chicane is so ghetto lookin. I mean that's unacceptable even for 2000
Who the fuck told them Jörg Müller was from Monaco?
I think his FIA license was registered in Monaco. Then his license was Monégasque though his passport was German.
7 years later here but they did same mistake on biela
