Melanie continues to inspire me through her videos……so badly missed. Her family has remained in my prayers. May God strengthen them. Loss doesn’t get easier in some ways. Lord Jesus bless them & keep them. She was one of a kind.
I am praying for each one of you. I will always remember her and I hope you will leave her videos up , because she is one of the best teachers on you tube. ❤️
Dear Melanie, You are still one of the best teachers out there. Wherever you are I hope you know I think of you every time I make a quilt. I would never have started but for your great tutorials. ❤ Your bright light still shines.
I was looking to find something that showed how to trim up these blocks using regular rulers I already have. I didn't want to have to buy a specialty ruler, if it wasn't necessary. So thank you very much, Melanie, for showing how to do this!
I can't thank you enough for the chart you posted with the cutting sizes. I bought a flying geese pattern and couldn't get it to work, but your size chart helped enormously, thank you again and greetings from the UK.
MK - I'm brand new to quilting - I made the 4 flying geese according to your great instruction and they turned out great. I'd love to make the big block you showed at the end of the video. I know it's been a few years since you posted the video. But you would have an audience for a tutorial on the full block.Thank you for sharing your talent with us, your videos are very motivating for me :_)
This is fantastic! I have not made any flying geese before because of the waste. It put me off. But thanks so much for sharing this simple method. Will certainly use this in future😁
Great video! Thank you! Definitely going to check out your blog with all the measurements for flying geese! Love how your nails match the fabric! So glad I found your site.
Hi, when you draw the line with the "quarter inch ruler" is it the RULER that is 1/4" wide? And therefore giving you 1/8" either side of the centre cutting line? Or is it a half inch wide, giving you a 1/4" seam allowance either side of the slice?? Sorry I'm new to this & a bit confused! I didn't hear you mentioning the distance between the two stitch lines again? Don't have one of those rulers so just trying to work out the measurements with my normal ruler and 1/8" seems too small of a seam allowance?
@@em_ily_grace_ thank you!!! Managed to work it out in the end by using her hand as a scale and being like ‘that ruler can’t be only 1/4” wide because it looks about as wide as a finger and 1/4” would be a very thin finger!!’ hehe!! - but good to have the reassurance!! Thanks so much for replying 💕
@@charlottetisdale no problem! I’m currently making my first quilt and had to figure this part out too 😅 finished all the trimming of the flying geese yesterday and hopefully will get to piecing today
I have missed something big ! I just stumbled upon this great lady only to find something has happened to her.😢 Would someone tell me what has happened to her, please ?
I don't really have a preference on cutting mats, they both function the same to me. I do like the Olfa rotating one, but fiskars has one too I believe.
Struggled a bit. the larger size meant that the smaller squares didn't meet in the middle which I think is crucial. 6" didn't meet in the 11 /2 square. I'll have a rethink.
The sizes given here and the chart are a little off for me. To make a 2 1/2” x 5” finished, I followed the chart to cut and the finished size came out to more like 3”x 6”.
she didn't use any "specialty ruler" just an ordinary ruler that we would all have as quilters. Any ruler as long as it has a diagonal line from corner to corner will work
Well, you have to use rulers when quilting. Every ruler isn't a "specialty" ruler. She used a basic square ruler. The tiny, narrow one she used for drawing the lines is also a basic in many quilters quilt rooms. But... it's just as easy to use any ruler you have in your room to draw those lines. Easy peasy and nothing to get worked up about.
I tear up every time I watch this beautiful woman. But her tutorials are so helpful! I'm glad they're still available. Rest in peace Melanie.
@ DA S- I agree what a shame
Very very sad!

Hi Melanie. Can you tell me what size on the chart I should follow to get the dimensions needed for your sawtooth star coasters? Thank you!
I would like to see the video for the quilt block. I would like to make that this weekend
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I wish I found this video before I bought two new rulers.

The distance between the two lines would be 1/2 an inch. The middle is the cutting line and 1/4 an inch on either side of the line

Wow!! Thanks for this!!
Sorry for your loss!
Please add the pattern for the whole block.
What is the skinner ruler you used in this video? Thanks for this easy tutorial!
A 1/4 inch ruler
Can you please put a better printable page with various sizes of the flying geese? Thanks a bunch!
Thanks, great video!
I have missed something big ! I just stumbled upon this great lady only to find something has happened to her.😢
Would someone tell me what has happened to her, please ?
please do a video on the block too:)
Hi Melanie, Great tutorial, thank you. Do you like the Fiskars cutting mat over the Olfa? Just curious. :)
I don't really have a preference on cutting mats, they both function the same to me. I do like the Olfa rotating one, but fiskars has one too I believe.
Great video !
awesome video!
Great video, thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much!!
thank you! love this!!!!!
yes! please add pattern for the main block, too!!
What size squares do you start with please
what is the finish size of this particular quilt block?
what is the ruler you used x
The sizes given here and the chart are a little off for me. To make a 2 1/2” x 5” finished, I followed the chart to cut and the finished size came out to more like 3”x 6”.
Você é ótima adoro a sua explicação sou Luzia Maria Vidal puerta do Brasil São Paulo

I lose may points lots of times, not only in flying geese but patterns with points.
Please do the video for the whole block
Melanie, I miss you.
Flying geese sorry but the square in the center is how many inch and the little 4 square?
What happened to the promise of 'no specialty ruler'? There was ruler use throughout!!!
SteveYoungET730: She said “No Specialty Ruler” she’s using a basic quilting ruler that most everyone has.
she didn't use any "specialty ruler" just an ordinary ruler that we would all have as quilters. Any ruler as long as it has a diagonal line from corner to corner will work

Lesley Nitschke Add painter tape to create a diagonal line on your ruler.
curtir...flying geese.
