Best rocksteady vocals ever? Pat Kelly really found a sweet spot here, somewhere between the style of Sam Cooke and that of mid-60s Curtis Mayfield. I've heard that this was the most popular song in Jamaica in 1969 and one listen will tell you why.
One of my father’s favorite songs. He only danced with Mr. J. Wray and his nephew; all three of them. He was a smooth dancer. “Rock the hips”, is what he said, rocking the hips.
I'm a skinhead, it's been five years now, and I discovered this song like 2 years ago and I can even feel chills in my body today, it's my fave rocksteady song of all time
MI GET MINE FI THIRTEEN SHILLINGS AT BUNNY LEE ON ORANGE ST,FIRST DAY IT CAME OUT.IT WAS A PREE RELEASE.MI NAH LIE MI COULDNT RESIST WHEN MI HEAR THE SONG.END UP GIVING IT TO MY FRIEND SONS JNR.A YRS DAT STILL. RIP SIR P
True love for this classic....to think of the day when a trains ran in Beautiful Jamaica and a heartbroken Pat Kelly headed west with tears in his eyes.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH MY GOOD MAN. I remember first hearing 'How Long Will It Take' about three or more years ago. I was immediately reminded of a U S soul classic but I could never think of the name of any songs. The rhythm and tempo of the music remind a totally different song. I think your statement may be the answer. I do not know how much Sam Cooke you know of but search 'Love Me' by Sam Cooke Studio One.
Good observation. No doubt about it. The trills and cadence of Pat's voice, especially during early stages of his career, certainly bear the mark of Sam Cooke.
The good old days nice the best ❤❤
How long can I hold back the tears of joy? Blessings to Jamaica.
Reggae rule the nation
The great and underrated Pat Kelly!!

Yes definitely sounds like Sam Cooke
The first time I heard this man singing "How long will it take" I thought it was Sam Cook singing reggae

Trudging Trojan reggae.
This was released on the Gas imprint of Pama - Trojan’s competitor. Both companies put out some cracking singles.

who is hearing sam cooke?
Yes, he sounds a lot like Sam.
Sounds odd to me without the violin strings which were added for the UK market.
Much better without the strings..
