    One point you missed: if you get obviously wrong readings on the right setting, try a few more wraps around the plug wire. Though almost all modern scoots should work with 3 or 4, the older point magneto vespas and similar spark voltage small engines could need as many as 8. Those inductive tachs are awesome, very good idea! You are absolutely correct, the very first step to ANY hop up is actually being able to accurately quantify results, and you NEED a tach for that

    want to pull extra hp's to your scooter's engine?
    1. change your stock pulleys to performance pulleys
    2. standard clutch, center springs and clutch springs replaced to aftermarket parts
    3. get a bigger carb.
    4. bore up
    5. get a sport exhaust

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому +4

      I would have to disagree. I would always first extract the intended amount of horsepower desired from the engine first before tuning the tranmission to maximize the engine's mechanical advantage on the road (ie. variators and clutch).
      Time would be wasted determining the perfect weight combo at, for example, 4hp only to modify your engine to produce 7hp as you would have to retune the transmission all over again. Hope that helps!

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому +8

    This is a pretty poor video description. It's giving a false expectations of actually making the scooter faster. Why there is a need for knowing your RPM on a twist and go scooter I'm not quite sure.

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  8 років тому +1

      Defaultdann123 poor description or poor title? Because the description clearly explains why you need a tach and further discussed in the comments section with others. A tach is the most accurate tool apart from an actual dyno to let you know if you increased engine horsepower, whether you need heavier or lighter weights, and give instant feedback to each modification you made to the bike.

      a tach cannot show any increase in horsepower so thats a false statement. and an 8 minute video shoing nothing but a tach install saying this will make you scooter faster is also a false statement.if you want to waste peoples time with fake improvement you should tell people to change their muffler bearings of their headlight fluid. unless you provide other instruction on actually making it faster buying a tach will do nothing to horsepower or making things faster.

    • @Tooextrememx
      @Tooextrememx 6 років тому

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому

      With any modifications, don't install them all at once because it's almost like diving head first into water before knowing what's underneath. In my opinion for a gy6 they make enough power for most city riding - therefore minor modifications like intake/jetting, variator weights, and clutch springs would make them fun enough for all purposes and intents. Engine modifications should only come after those if you're still not satisfied but it starts getting spendy and begs the question why not invest that money in a bike with a larger engine.

    4 stroke scooter engines fire the plug on every turn of the crank. Only every other spark is utilized for the combustion process but, because the way the stator works, each time the crank turns, a spark is generated. I believe this is called the "wasted" spark system.

    great vids ,, nice scooters,,, how often is it safe to take it over max revs,,, i have a metro,,, with annoying rev limiter that keeps it lower revs than ruckus i think,,,

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  8 років тому

      Thanks Ricardo. It depends on the engine. The particular AF58 engine on the Honda Metro/Ruckus is quite safe to keep the revs below 10,000RPM, despite a restrictor at 8850RPM as it has been proven on the dyno that the Ruckus is capable of making more power beyond the restrictor. The Metro (depending which model) has quite a few restrictions on there. Provided that you tuned the engine well it should perform just as well as the Ruckus engine if not better.

If you have the time, return the scooter to stock and then install each modification one at a time and make sure it makes the scooter faster before adding another.

      While technically true, 1) sustained high rpm operation is not beneficial for moving parts and 2) due to the way and engine is designed, you would be substituting high engine speed with peak horsepower RPM (unless of course you modify the engine to work at higher RPMs).
      For a daily commute bike to and from work, it is much more practical, fuel efficient, and reliable to operate the engine at, or slightly below peak horsepower RPM.

  • @dregramlich102

    This has nothing to do with speed, it has to do with wasting money. There is no mechanical advantage to this, I thought that that was going to be a plug and play reprogramming chip for the governer and a car doesn't even idle at 2000 rpm after its warmed up, a car idles at around 750 to 810 rpm so why would a moped spin that fast.

    • @dregramlich102
      @dregramlich102 7 років тому

      hell if that engine is revving that high then the transmission is poorly geared and mods should souly be done on the transmission so that the final drive gear matches the rpm of the engine in which case I wouldn't wast money on a box that gives readings when the power to ground distribution is causing the moped to be more inefficient and cause higher emissions and a carbon footprint than V16 Diesel tuned to role coal on a constant. Think about it.

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  7 років тому +1

      A scooter, much like motorcycles have smaller pistons and generate less power at 2000RPM versus a car's engine. The same could be said that a motorcycle and scooter can spin up to 14,000RPM, why can't a car spin that fast?
      Your lack of understanding above shows why you can't reap the benefits from installing tachometer into a scooter. I believe no further discussion is necessary at this point whether it helps find more speed or a complete waste of money.

      Yes, increasing engine displacement is often times the easiest solution for people lacking understanding of how the scooter operates. I have a 150cc 07 rocketa. The body panels are kind of wearing out and I was wondering if body panels from a slightly older or newer scooter will work? Mine is the limited edition so it is kind of difficult to find parts for that model.

      It would probably fit! Especially if the newer and older models look exactly identical.

      my scooter engine number is 150 qmj it was sold to me new as a 150 but I thought a 150 would say 157 qmj do you know anything about it

      if u look on the bottom left side of the engine(right below ur variator) it will tell u wht type. U may need to take off ur cvt casing to see the model etched #'s. Normally there are two diff kinds of 150cc engines if Im not mistaken. One is slighter bigger thn the other

    Why u do this...
    You should be band for faults information

      Please watch the subsequent episodes on how each modification is used culminating in nearly double the top speed and acceleration. Oh, and it's spelled "banned" not band.

    The wire keeps going on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever. Not really.🌚

      crazy huh? That's all it take for the tacho pick up wire to detect spark and thereby give you a RPM reading. It works by electrical current travelling axial to the coil and generating a magnetic field in which a seperate current travels to the tach sensors.

    Just buy a faster more expensive scooter. Why spend all that money in upgrades.

      Check out my instagram page. I already have more expensive scooters. It only make sense to spend money on both #whatcanIsay #blessed instagram.com/fiddymil/?hl=en

    Lol, now you have installed a digital tachometer and it has not done anything to improve the bike. If you want to know the engine RPM look at the tacho on the dash! What a wasted video.. lol..

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  5 років тому

      Dash does not have a tach. Also note this video title clearly indicates it is a episode intro. Proceed to the next episode to learn how to use it to tune your scooter before jumping to conclusions.

      @@FIFTYmil "If you want a faster scooter there is nothing more important than installing a Tach" Clearly stated at the start of the video... End of technical conversation..

    • @FIFTYmil
      @FIFTYmil  5 років тому

      @@WorldwidetechnologiesAu Again, jumping to conclusions before even watching the next episode on how to use it effectively..That's equivalent to saying installing a larger engine into the scooter does nothing for you..because you weren't able to comprehend that you needed to install the spark plug to make it work.
      End of faith in humanity..

    Please explain how a tachometer increases speed. I'd love to hear this. I guess a new speedometer increases gas mileage?
