  • Medina RES glider. All Up Weight 435 grams. Proving that a motor isn't always required. These gliders offer fantastic performance in light winds and thermic conditions.

I'm glad you showed the 'you lose'. But when it happens it's a big buzz. If we could only see what was happening. We can only guess by having a go and doing. I'm going to have a go at hand launch.

Hi David. Very impressive how quickly the glider gains height when riding those invisible thermals. Also some verbal encouragement seems to help.

Thanks Carl. They can really boom up when higher and lift stronger. All for free too - thanks to mother nature.

This is awesome! always wanted to have a large glider and ride thermals...

Wow, it is a really nice performance glider for thermal flights! Now I would like to build one! It inspires me to fly in this way. Bravo!

Thanks Peter. Yes they are great gliders and rewarding to build. Not much difference in performance between any of the Res models.

I once hooked up a thermal at that height. It took the glider that high I could barely see it and it became such a struggle to get it down that the wing folded. Obviously it then came down without much effort!

Yes spoilers are essential for getting a Res model down from height.

Your videos inspired me to build a res glider withou motor, its a prime res glider from clm pro, first for me flying a glider withou motor but iam really looking forward to giving it a try 😊

@@CirrusRC thank you. I have now completed the model and come across a little issue which I wanted your take on if possible.
The model covered with all servos is about 400gr, flying weight is suggested from 410gr, BUT at the 70mm cg point just to Balance it would need another 90-100gr in the nose, as I mentioned I wanted it pure glider but it would 500gr with all that dead weight.
Is that typical in your experience? Or is better to try to install a motor and at least make the weight in the nose useful?
Would really appreciate your experience on this. Cheers

@@ready-set-test5275 seems tail heavy. I'm not sure what AUW should be on that plane. Some build threads on rcgroups I think

@@CirrusRC suggested flying weight is from 410grams, I have flown it with a 30gram lead weight in the nose and 45gram battery and pushed cg back to 73 which is the limit on the instructions. I just feel it could have been lighter.
      Thank you for your response

I always wanted to hand launch, and ride a thermal with my glider. Seems improbable!

Well... for those "flat" days, or when the wheat is still green, I guess the motor still has some appeal as a "Plan B". anyway, you would probably have to replace it with ballast. 😊

Hi There. I enjoy your videos just a shame you don't post more. If you could only have one glider would it be electric or not? As you may well know there is not a great difference in performance of RES gliders so so what's your favourite to fly

  • @avisparc

Impressive. My personal holy grail is to speck out from a hand launch on the flats. Some day I'll make it. I've done it from small slopes but not from the flats.
In your second flight following the bubble downwind far and low, isn't it less risky having the motor safe net?

    • @CirrusRC
      @CirrusRC  11 місяців тому +1

Thanks. Yes you are right about the motor. On this flight I never armed the motor so it would have been tricky. I always tend to forget about the motor 😃

Hello, i enjoy your videos.5 Re: the E-Medina, I just completed mine and now balancing before test glides (hand launch). My plane is virtually "stock" and weighs approx. 428-430 grams . However, it's slightly tail heavy and will require a small amount of nose weight to balance at the 75mm CG target. You mention that your plane is 435 grams AUW. I will need more than the 5 gram difference between our planes to balance. So a couple of questions if you don't mind...1) did you have to add weight? 2) if so, do you know your AUW Before the addition? 3) did you do anything specifically calculated to lighten it from "stock"? Thanks very much......jerry

Hi. Mine is stock, no extra weight added. I use a 550 GNB lipo ( 43g ), pushed up to firewall, then servos. All kits have variance depending on quality of balsa and resultant weights.
