I just seam seal my tent with Seam Grip + WP when I first buy the tent. That way I don't get any surprises on my first time out. As for waterproofing, IMO it's better to do it too often than not often enough.
I bought a brand new Patagonia jacket with water repellent coating. I washed it. Fluffed it in the dryer and used a heavy coating of scotchgard. My jacket will be good for yeeaaarss
You should come up with a truck tent. i like your items on your website, tho we like to do our camping out of our truck and alot of people dont give us the option of a tent for a truck. I think people should think of every camper when coming up with tents now. if you come up with a tent for a truck let me know!!!!
I’ve been camping in Sahara desert near the sea since February 2020 and my tent is suffering, especially the waterproof liner. Too much sun, sea and sand. Thank you for the tips!
By the time the bulk material starts leaking, it's likely that the uv damage has degraded the polyester to the point where no amount of spray will save it! The best these sprays can do is replace a dwr, which is only needed if you have to clean the tent of muck or bird poo. A, waterproof jacket will get much dirtier, plus they have breathable liners eg goretex that need regular washing, so you need to reproof a jacket everytime you wash it, but again it's only replenishing the DWR. The waterproofing is performed by the goretex lining or the PU coating on the inner of the tent flysheet. You can't replace that as a DIY project. Also, the zips are going to leak more than anywhere else if they are not properly sealed, most should have a storm flap which needs to be in place. In my experience, waterproof zips rarely are.
My high end tent, that leaked after 2 years of heavy use would like to disagree with you about how soon a tent leaks and that it’ll most likely be through the seams instead of seeping through the fabric itself. Actually my tent and all my trad gear that went swimming in a tent pool after rainfall DOES disagree with you.
I bought a outwell Woodburg 7a it leaked though the material after 4 uses; not through the seems or condensation; it was swimming after a bit of rain. After years of owning a Hartford xl without issue utterly gutted. Never seen anything like it

What is the name of this tent please?
or ct1 silicon clear job done
Nikwax doesn't need to be applied to a wet tent.
use seam sealer or waterproof spray?
Theyre for different applications. The seam sealer is for seams. The water repellent spray is for the rest of the tent.
Is the fabseal any good for tent seams please?
I use Gear Aid Seam Grip + WP and it works amazingly. It's basically just like really runny rubber cement that stays flexible when dry.
